prob because every other stage is worse. Either they're long enough for him to get fair combos, or vertical enough for him to get ladder combos, this is atleast the least potent middleground. That's just a guess.

​@@tumultoustortellini Very late reply but i wanted to correct this comment, mario DEFINITELY prefers platforms over no platforms. There's no benefit in a long stage cause he can get camped out, and you can do fair bridge combos on platform stages anyway.
PS2 is usually better than SBF cause the ladders kill earlier. I think PS2 is one of mario's best stages along with battlefield... so you should always counterpick to a stage with less platforms or platforms on the sides against him
