Fantastic review. I was drinking with you. I see what you mean by prickly bitterness on the finish. But it goes away.
Thanks for the review, I found some at Sydney Airport.... Cheers from down under ! 🥃
nice job toning it down while still keeping your personality. kudos.
Knowing the price and how hard it is to find this made me wince seeing you spill it.
I didn't get mad. I got a little sad. Alcohol abuse.
@@lexwaldez I lolled, cheers 🤣🥃
Agreed, I found a stash at Sydney airport and tripped over myself to grab some !
Thanks for your honest feedback. I was really wondering if this is worth hunting for especially at that price. Got my answer now. Keep it up.
You got one answer. There are several other reviews which loved it more..... of course it is all subjective.
True but since I'm not a Maker's guy I'm sure I would come to the same conclusion@@superbford
Great haircut Matt!
Dude you’re looking jacked. Also, got a bottle of this today and I’m excited AF. Cheers!
The review I’ve been waiting for!
Can you possibly do a head to head with this and Maker's Mark The Heart Release 2024?
We got to try the conventional aged 12 year on the tour. The nose was incredible but it was way too over oaked and very tannic.
I normally enjoy MM but I really don’t expect to find it at a reasonable price. Definitely not MSRP! So probably not happening. From Western Kentucky…. Which can be the hardest place to get a fair price on bourbon 🥃…!
Looking through the comments...I swear I am at an insurance seminar where everyone speaks in acronyms...WTH!
"They just left it in the wrong damn place" I laughed out loud when you said that 😂 Your delivery was perfect! Idk that I'll get a chance at this one, thanks for the honest review, I think you were very fair considering that you don't dig MM. Cheers
I'm fairly new to you, Matt. I love your videos, your style, everything. Thanks for your unique authenticity.
Just got a bottle of it finally. In my opinion, MM is correct in saying that their product isn’t good over oaked. Some bourbons are just meant to be younger. This is evident in the Calumet aged lineup. Fans of heavy oak and tannins will love the 14/15/16 year Calumets, but anybody who’s looking for a more balanced approach, will think it’s a horrible bottle (like me) MM hit it out of the ballpark with this one.
You crack me up!
We really like Makers Mark in every iteration.
It's just heart breaking to see it cost 150. I love makers mark. But none of its releases should cost 150. Just like Blantons should not cost more than the standard 45 bucks. Or Pappy V.W should not be 1200 beans. Pappy is at most a 250 dollar drink. I swear the 25 year old Chivas Regal spanks the pappy. And it does not break the bank.
The cellar bottle is a stretched out 101 bottle
For me, the higher the proof on Makers Mark, the better the whiskey - Cheers !
You missed the [maker’s] mark on that pour.
I will grab one at the first opportunity.
My gosh ... how much would I'd love to be the bar top where that bourbon landed ... it's incredibly difficult to get !!!
This is one bottle I would love to find but us regular people can’t find it
When the first word out after drinking is "unique".. yea that's going to be a pass at anything above msrp lol
Hope I can get a bottle! 🥹
Spills happen...it just means you are moving a tad too fast! Which is what I have told my daughters when they were little...and still do to this day 20 years later! Looking forward to trying some...someplace...one day! Cheers Matt!!!
I've been lookin all over for this one. Tough times in Florida last store I was in had another bottle I've been hunting. Blanton's SFTB but I'll be damned if he didn't say $399 😢
I like watching whiskey go into the tasting machine and then the tasting machine punches out the taste report. Fantabulous as always.
Seemed like you got caught up in more of the noise than the whiskey. I need you to put it in a blind, I think the big dawg would give it more flowers or absolutely hate it lol
Hey Bud, your looking good! I’m weight training every day but still am a fat slob.Kudos to your success!
To me it’s a runner for WOTY
I agree with comments below, I thought you were gonna give it a lower score. I do like MM but here in Kentucky I have had a hard time finding this bottle. I blame Fred Minnick for this as he has always said that 12yo MM at cask strength was the best bourbon.
You and I agree on a lot, but here we diverge. I love maker's cask and BEP, I am very much looking forward to this bottle. Someday.
Just call it the Dailyish Dram and you’re cool.
I managed to get my hands on a few bottles for my restaurant bar. If you’d like to try it, stop by Fritto Misto in Santa Monica California.
What else you have there in a bourbon sense? It might be worth the drive over from Arcadia.
Yaa, depends on the price of a pour 😂
After listening to your comments, I would have bet money that you would grade in the mid to high 7s.
I call party foul. New game, every time you spill on a long pour you need to do a shot. Either that will teach you not to mess up the long pour, or your long pour skills will worsen just so you can have the shot.
Great Video. I would love to test that bottle here in Germany. One question: does anybody know which glass Matt always uses? It look so much better than the usual Glencairn. Thanks for your help!
The glass he uses is a Viski footed crystal scotch glass. I asked Matt the same question & he replied on my comment in a previous video. I ordered 2 frm Amazon & love them way better than a Glencairn.
I agree its like the best makers mark i had, I don’t normally like makers mark but i felt this was a good bourbon. I would want multiple bottles of it.
Surprised you gave it an 8.2 the way you were talking about it. I was expecting a 7.6-7.8
Would you buy another bottle at $150?
thought the same as well, butt for a MM I can see that rating
Don't need it for $150 if its just "great for a makers mark", lol! Your review was very honest, so thanks for that Matt.
spilling alcohol = alcohol abuse :D
This is basically unobtainium, so yet I think they failed.
Maybe it’s just me but even with secondary being what it is I just don’t feel good paying $150 for this.
Yeah im not interested even at msrp honestly
@@LeatherDaddy97🧢
@@johnwill7962 im sure its good but 150 would be the second most id ever spent on a whiskey (and more than what i paid for any of the btacs ive purchased). Im just not that much of a makers fan, so id rather it go to someone who wants it more.
Bottom line... it's still Makers Mark 😂
Have you ever reviewed or had any of the Maker's Mark DNA series bottles?
Thoughts on the price? Bjs said its a good price but idk..secondary is moving these over 500 which is nuts
Comments+1
"There's a special rung in hell for people who waste good whiskey" you sonofabatch....
8.2 is solid.
So do you and Mash and Drum have the same guy or what
The national release of this bourbon could of been handled better. Bold claims from makers stating this is their best before releasing it in to the wild for a handful of people to buy them all was a pro marketing strategy. In the end, it is Makers mark and anyone paying more than MSRP for a pretty bottle, well lets jus say are "idiots". Thanks for the review as always, Matt!
This slapped the hell out of WFP, and was just under my WLW 22. It's great, but I understand what Matt is saying.
A lack of focus on ADHD Whiskey? How could that happen? 😅
Is it worth the 150
Hard to say 🤷♂️
@@ADHDWhiskey thanks man I appreciate you being honest I think I’ll pass for that price, there’s so many other options for much less
Really? 20 different flavors? I’m not that sensitive
Listening to the “liner notes” is as about as painful as it is for you to read it.
I'm a good reader.
Terrible pour. Shameful
After your review, I think I would rather grab two ECBP C923’s than one of these.
I've been able to try both.... wouldn't buy the C923.... the MM was killer.
Wow! Your review is completely different than every whisky review out there. Everyone, and I mean everyone, is aging C923 is fantastic.
If you don't like this bottle, then I disagree with you on something. But love you still either way. But long pour and swirl your heart out
Feel like it still has the sour Makers on the back end. Its FOMO in my opinion
I'm pretty sure you just spilled $18.65 worth of bourbon. Shame on you Matt.
Why is it all these people get these special releases. I live in Kentucky and I’m a Ambassador of Makers. Wth
Drive down there and get one in the morning. They have 30ish bottles on the weekday and 50ish on the weekends. You have until the end of the month to try to get a bottle. Get in line at like 5am during the week and you can get a ticket.
Many reasons. Different results for different people
I managed to get 5 of them here in TX
@@NathanielEssex- thanks for leaving some for the next guy. Good job being part of the problem.
Show up at the distillery at 5am and wait til they hand out tickets on the weekdays. I showed up at 5am friday morning and was 14th. The people showing up at 7am also got a bottle. All about how bad you want it
Lol f it the long pour was perfect who cares?
only youtuber that didn't like it....
He did like it.
8.2 is pretty strong, but was the score due to peer pressure?
Completely missed the mark. Huge let down. Didnt meet the hype and damn sure didnt meet the price point.
Matt buddy I've got you figured out. I can almost guess within a tenth of a point or 2 what you are going to guess. I said u would guess between 7.8 and 8.2.
I also went on to say to myself that I have a funny feeling Maker mark contacted you and maybe paid you to do this video. Probably said it would be nice if you gave it over an 8.0.
I don't think you wanted to go above a 7.5.
How much did they pay you? wink wink.
Sometimes you give things a high score like 18 year Knob Creek which I think came in at 8.8 and there's no way 18 year Knob Creek is an 8.8. Knob creek 12 is better than knob creek 18.
I get it, these are my opinions but come on, something feels amiss sometimes in your videos. I get it these are my opinions but come on something feels amiss sometimes in your scoring.
Still think you are great though
Something seems amiss with your comment. It starts by saying you have Matt figured out and then you missed his rating. By a lot. So I guess you don’t. And that funny feeling you have is the lack of oxygen going to your brain-something you should check out. So (wink wink) you should come to realize that when something “seems amiss” it’s probably you. Lots of medical and other reasons we could speculate about but based on this comment something seems amiss… And moreover, we don’t care. So keep that amiss stuff to yourself if you don’t mind. Thank you. 😊
Damn, let the man drink bourbon and just talk about it. Relax, take a deep breath, grab a bottle to drink and just enjoy yourself
@@tommyrq180GO BACK TO SLEEP! NOTHING I SAID WAS AMISS. I WAS NOT WAY OFF.
GO BACK TO TURKEY 101.
ILL DRINK MY TURKEY DECADES😂
If anyone can get me a bottle, I’d be grateful and or willing to trade
Sounds better than pappy 23 or weller 12 at least. Those bottles are undrinkable if you ask me
I think youre full of it if you think that. The bottles arent impressive but to say something is undrinkable is a far stretch
@@nightlygamingx4327 i absolutely hated weller 12, it smells very strongly of dog pee to me, and pappy 23 just tastes like you licked a tree. I stand by my opinion. You dont have to agree, but it doesnt make me "full of it". Thats how palates work
W12 is definitely a drain pour
Probably fighting words, but Makers Cask is a good substitute for Weller Antique and Makers 46 is a good replacement for Weller 12. I don’t feel I need the Weller’s, but of course I would buy them if I saw them at regular price to put one in my collection and share with friends dying to try them.
@@r2skyvader i completely agree, i dont think those are fighting words at all. people often act like buffalo trace is the best distillery ever, but personally id put them pretty firmly in the middle of the pack at best.
