Yes, sad to see what has happened to the dining hall. I was at York in the 70s. Langwith dining hall was really quite palatial - very spacious, art on the walls, a gallery above the eating area with comfy chairs ... Looks quite barren nowadays - rather like a basketball court.
I can't believe the dining room has been turned into a lecture theatre and no sign of any plaques to commemorate the performances of Hendrix and The Who. I suppose it was a cost-cuttng exercise and so forcing people to eat in their own kitchen areas. A reflection of the atomisation of university life these days. I'm glad I experienced life there in the 60s and not now.
