Persuasion is my favorite Jane Austen. It's not as punchy as P&P, but I love it. I've been needing to reread Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey.

Just FYI, “The Sisters Brothers” was made into a 2018 film starring John C. Reilly and Joaquin Phoenix as the Sisters brothers. I didn’t see it myself, but the film was well received by critics.
Just by coincidence, I happened to be reading “Carmilla” today. The atmosphere of the story was nice and Middle-European forest Gothic, though I thought the final scenes became cluttered with too many wood cutters, priests, doctors, and elderly noblemen. I also wonder if Sheridan LeFanu was really aware of the lesbian overtones of his novella, as Victorian men could sometimes be just as naïve about sexual matters as Victorian women.
People sometimes talk about the perfect novel. I don’t think there is such a thing, but “Pride and Prejudice” comes closest. I’ve seen a few Booktuber videos of guys complaining that the publishing world has been completely taken over by women and that there are no books for men to read these days-as if the vast majority of published writers since the invention of the printing press haven’t been men. There’s no reason why men can’t read Jane Austen with as much pleasure and enjoyment as women.

i watched the sisters brothers in dec!! i just haven't posted my dec film wrap up, lol!! i did think the film was good but i think i watched it too close after reading the book and i was a little biased/critical 😂😂
i really think i need to carmilla soon!! good to hear your thoughts on it.
agreed on pride and prejudice, there are a lot of layers in the book! and so many different things to talk about! its something worth re-reading

I’m into meditation since 2015’s, just recently discovered a teaching within the 4 elements (earth, water, wind and fire.) and how observing these 4 elemental traits we begin to see them in others & most importantly within ourselves.
So last time I skimmed through this long winded book; it had eastern spirituality, I am a holistic nutritionist college dropout, unfortunately. So reading nutrition books is the next best thing.
Just got a bald haircut to uphold my zen mindset for this year, when things arises and I have to look in the mirror to remind myself who I am…. I will appear as soft & gentle like a monk. 🙂👍 apologies if my profile picture startled you hehe. 😓

I was cracking up at your review of Rodham, that does sound awful 😬. I read the author’s book Prep years ago and I don’t remember much of it, but I do remember hating it.
