It’s probably added a bit of editing time for subtitles, but the short moments of German with her camera person feel very candid and are quite endearing. ❤️ Fits well into the candid enthusiastic style Laura has.

Came here to make the same comment. Laura mentioned on a podcast (might have been Making It? Or Modern Maker?) that she wanted to do more of this with her friend and I really like it. It almost feels like we are in the shop with her.

IKR, that is such a friggin' good idea. I have no bicycle chains at hand, and no projects that need fold down support, but now I want to use this concept somehow.

I love the bike chain! It looks awesome and it won’t bend sideways to get caught in the door. Very cool project :-)

A bicycle chain seems to be the perfect choice. It's flexible but very sturdy. and doesn't dangling like a rope, so it doesn't bother when open and close it. also looks so cool!

    • @MianCowell

And it won't sag off-axis like a strap or rope and get caught in the door!

    Brilliant solution as always.
    Two bonus points:
    1) smudo being nice and warm under your jacket 🥰
    2) you admitting you need to learn how to use things. You often seem like this genius maker who knows what she is doing all the time. It's a nice reminder we all have to learn stuff

The sharpening station is amazing. The creativity in this design is absolutely mind blowing. Your ability to take spare parts and upcycle them into something new and useful is a rare talent. I love to watch you use this mental gift. Thanks for sharing this video and design with us.

  • @jeffreygatrall

    You are the best!
The only thing this needs is a space to store extra safety goggles to use when sharpening your tools. That way, you don't have to run all over the shop looking for goggles. I got in the habit of having extras of things that I need all the time ( like safety googles and screw drivers ) because I have a studio and a workshop in two different places ( in two different towns! ) so there's always something I need that I can't find.

I live in an efficiency apartment attached to my son's house. My next major project is a portable base cabinet with storage for the hand tools . I had to leave most of my tools behind when I moved...but am ALWAYS finding myself designing and building small things.

This is so amazing to watch! I love the entire project. I just wanted to politely point out that the limit switch you used, while it's very satisfying, can be very dangerous if wired directly inline with mains voltage. If anyone's watching this and wants to draw inspiration of this beautiful idea, just keep in mind how close you may be putting exposed contacts carrying high voltage. Swapping the bulb for low voltage LED lighting or even using a 5 or 12v relay to switch your mains voltage could potentially be a life-saver.
