The divorce rate is so low there because the people in arranged marriages would rather stay with someone who they're not happy with so their families won't ostracize them. I grew up with an Indian family as neighbors, they had 3 kids, all 3 had arranged marriages, but their youngest son refused to go through with it. He was cut out of their family because he humiliated and embarrassed his parents and the girl's parents. Pretty sad. He ended up marrying an American and he's happy but he shouldn't have had to give up his family to find happiness.
Exactly. To think that 90% of married couples in India are happy is unrealistic. Divorce is frowned upon in their culture so people stay married even if they’re unhappy, being cheated on, abused etc so that they don’t embarrass their families.

I actually wonder if she has some kind of trauma that stunted her emotional development at her teenage years. A mother's curse is the worst thing that can happen to any son/daughter when it comes to trying to live happily. It's what my MIL did with my husband and I, she wished ill on us and also said that she hopes we can bring her happiness when our first born child passes at birth (we don't have any kids as of yet btw). So far a lot of things haven't gone according to our plans and our situation could be better, but the love that my husband and I have for each other is what gets us through everything that's thrown at us. We have been no contact with her for over a year now and it's been quite peaceful on that part, but she still raises hell in her household. Hopefully she can one day get the help that she needs and can come to terms that her children are grown and make their own decisions. Same thing goes to Summit's mom👀
