.... I am not living in Yap anymore. You mean you are STUCK there, right ;O) ...mybe better there than in NYC or mexico City, Madrid, Paris or Berlin. Wish you all the best and drop by the Manta Ray Bay Hotel and say HELLO from Peter the Vidiot ;O) ....
My dad is supposed to take out family in 2018, he wants to learn of our culture. I really want to see the beautiful oceans, and go fishing in the canoes!!!
Amazing diving but stop touching the coral!? Or no coral to dive in the future :( ? Like seriously every shot of the divers they have their hands all over the coral its awful who taught them to dive...
You are absolutely right, ...no contact is the best, but most important is, that you are aware of what you are doing. It is not killing a coral reef, if you use a finger to stabilize yourself. If you can avoid it, super! But it is like divers and peeing in the wetsuit - there are those who do it and those who are liars. The divers in the video are quite controlled and have little contact. I have footage, where people stand (not divers - but swimmers and snorkelers) on corals and divers sitting on them while watching manta rays in a cleaning station. I admit, I broke corals whjile shooting, and felt always terrible and sorry. I also have seen and worked with big productions with big cameras, ...literally parked on /in the reef. No good and no excuse, again, ...you are right, but reality is a different thing. Also some of the reef you see in the film are really in danger, but not because of the fingers touching them, but because of overfishing. Empty reefs, where algues start overgrowing the corals, ...algues which usually are kept in control by reef fish. Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate. No touch is absolutely the best behaviour.
thanks for your comment. I absolutely agree. But there are some dive sites where you attract sharks. Unfortunately it is not so easy anymore to encounter sharks in the ocean nowadays. More than 100 million sharks a killed every year and the lobby for sharks isn`t taht big. people fear sharks and and it is hard to mobilize them to speak up for them. Shark diving is one way to get the word out, that these animals are no man eaters, but usually very shy creatures. They keep the foodchain in the oceans in ballance and therefore are very important to the ecosystem. Climate change and pollutions are a greater threat to the coral reefs, than some divers who touch carefully some corals, at dedicated sites. But in general I agree, keep the impact as small as possible and ideally don't touch any life down there. Thanks again for getting in touch and telling us about your opinion. keep it up my friend, ...ocean greetings, Peter
