"Then I stood there laughing over her while she bubbled up inside!' That line has been forever burned into my memory for over 35 years. Saw him once in college. There's just no one quite like David Bromberg. Consummate musician and tier 1 stand up comedian. A rare talent indeed. And as I guitarist I can tell you, that guy can play almost anyone right off the stage.
I saw this show at Colgate spring break 77...changed my life along with the Dead...Transferred to UTEP in 78 ,he played Las Cruses, 1 man show ,drinking Jack....
"My friend John Firmin. He don't drink no more; he don't drink no less." HAD to buy two copies of the live album in college as we wore the first one out. Saw hm in Boulder w/ Jorma 2019 just prior to the shutdown. Brilliant.
I have at least 2 copies of this album .1st one i bought at Sam the Record Man in TO 1976..2nd one cause i wore out the first one... and was lucky enough to get to seem him in Vancouver BC ~1984 ...sharing the bill with Arlo Guthrie... it was a very memorable night. He said it was the first time he’d ever played anywhere in Canada with his full band. But he didn’t play “send me to the ‘lectric chair... for whatever reason. Thanks so much for posting this ...greatly enjoyed it
Back in those days ('77-'78), when he was doing the college tours, he'd come in all wrinkly, with messed up hair, all half asleep, because they just woke him up on the bus. As soon as the music started - BAM - he was 100% jammin' the house down. Damn, I miss those days.
SUNY Oswego. My roomates brother was the Program Policy Board guy (concerts, speakers, etc.). Bromberg's show was concurrent w/ a huge snowstorm. He crashed on our off campus couch. Next morning, puke on the floor along w/ a $100 bill and a note of apology. He got up before us, was classy and left the barf. Never loved him more. My most seen artist live just behind the Dead (12/11).
At The Shaboo Inn, so many great times and then again just a few years ago doing a benefit for Windham High School along with David “Lefty” Foster who, along with Bruce John, founded the Shaboo... RUclips can bring me almost right back there. Thank you, David Bromberg!
Definitely go buy Bromberg’s “Wanted Dead or Alive” Album where his ever-present humor even shows on the album cover. On it, there’s a studio version of this song with sublime use of the horns. 🎶
It occurs to me, in 2018, to have second thoughts about liking this performance so much. And then, I have second thoughts about having second thoughts.
I know :) But that obvious delight in slicing up your sweet patootie ...! It helps that Bessie Smith did it first. ruclips.net/video/TZ6w5IlqhSk/видео.html
I was the drummer in that band. Great memory! Thanks for posting.
So special! Congrats. Bromberg is a national treasure!
You did a magnificent job here!
Hey. I was the guy in the back howling. Thank you for a killer performance. Remember it like it was yesterday. Wishing the best to you.
Did you play in Brussels? Saw the band there in 77 or 78. Great show, great band 😉
I seen you guys mid 70s "in the round" celebrity theater phoenix.
Some good funky drumming and horn solos on this. I'm proud to say that Mr Bromberg is a resident of the town I grew up in, Wilmington, Delaware!
The soundtrack of my college years. So happy DB is venturing out into performing again.

Nobody sells a song better that David Bromberg.

One of my favorites for over 40 years!

Saw David last night December 4th 2022. He's still doing that song and he's got a great band behind him.
He's definitely getting on though

This is my favorite Bromberg song!
That saxaphone solo is incredible...
Ann Arbor Michigan Theater late 70's! One of THE BEST shows EVER!
Was at that show. Fantastic! Part of a folk festival type show, with Tom Paxton, lots of others. Seeing David was the reason to go for me, though.

Criminally underrated.... hes on par with lowell George, The Dead
Never gets old
Me and mi esposo know EVERY word to this song and still crank up the stereo and sing along with DB.
Everything about the song is 👍🏼.
nothing better than david
We grew up with that album back in Wash DC.
It occurs to me, in 2018, to have second thoughts about liking this performance so much. And then, I have second thoughts about having second thoughts.

It's just a tune. If it helps, go n sin no more.
