Just imagine: it's your first pokemon encounter, route 1. You click on the pokeball button, and watch as suddenly a pokeball comes from offscreen. "Oh, didn't see you there, were you trying to catch that?" Your rival swipes your first pokemon away from you.
It would actually be the most memorable moment in all of pokemon.
