Just a tip for you kids out there who wanna buy this. I got my Powkiddy X55 two weeks ago and it came with JELOS version 20230831. I immediately updated via WiFi to 20230919. Shortly after, I noticed that PS1 games had audio stutters all over the place except for light 2D PS1 titles. I tried everything including switching emulators but it didn't help. I also tried flashing 0919 to the SD card from scratch but it didn't help either. Then a RUclipsr (Jacek Rusin) who tests the X55 a lot helped me. After some futility, he said he's using 20230903. I tried that version and all the PS1 audio issues went away. Somewhere between firmware 0903 and 0919, something got messed up and it's killing PS1. So, if you get an X55, take note of this.

Taki ..serious question. Would it be possible ( and worth while) to put thevinternals of a X28 powkiddy into this X55 powkiddy? I believe the screen is the same.
Honest question: why not just get a PSP or Vita? The emu scene is solid and native games are great. The battery is the only thing I can think of, but I’d love to hear from people who are actually in the market for this. I’m a PSP and Vita owner so this performance tier doesn’t interest me.
Surely VITa and PSP are the best (not so true) for their main platform gamming. I prefer the emulators, because we get better resolutions (PSP at 2x is awesome), fast forward and save states as an welcome thing. @@Emuletal have you tried a Vita for all you mentioned? The emulation is far better than the PSP. For the price, I don’t think you can get a better device, to be honest. But obviously, to each their own.

It's ridiculous because as you said it's just a pair of resistors and costs them a penny or two to add.
I'm so clueless when it comes to this space but im interested in a handheld emulator like this. I have to ask, does this come pre loaded with tons of games? If I want to add games to it what does that process look like? More than anything else, I want to play champions of norrath which was a PS2 game. That game took up probably 1000 hours of my childhood. Or more.
I always see reviews of handhelds hate clicky buttons and want soft spongy buttons. Where my fellow clicky button lovers at? Clicky buttons feel really satisfying and responsive
@@TakiUdon well yeah can't argue with that but point still stands so many vids I watch complain about them whereas I adore them. But yeah if they wake the neighbours up no thanks lol
...I appreciate your videos, but regarding this handheld, and many others, I don't understand why multiple models using the same chip are released month after month, year after year now, just saturating the market. What's the point?
If we are talking the same company using the same chip with different form factors, I can see the benefit. If it's the same company, the same chip, and the same form factor, that's kind of useless.
I am VERY new to this scene (so new I haven’t even made my first purchase) and I am wondering what people would recommend for a first-timer. Seems this X55 is good, but I see one person rave and another jeer in response. Being a Mac person my whole life and basically NO understanding of the ROM community, but a desire to learn, what would you recommend for ease of use and stays in that $200 or less range?
@@TheMysteryDriver I think I want flexibility. And I get that many of these systems (unless you dump a lot of money into a device) are specific choices for specific systems and games, but since this will be my first, I think I want a more diverse system that I can get used to tinkering with to get games to play. Once I’ve built a little confidence (of which I have none now) I will move onto the “get X handheld if you want to play Y system games.
@@theroguerider for the amount you're talking about spending there isn't much tinkering you need to do. Literally just drag and drop rom files onto an SD card. Again it's more about how far up you want to play. Like if you're just going up to the PlayStation a Miyoo Mini Plus or the lower end Anberic ones are great.
They offer various SD card sizes (4) with different number of games included.. is it worth getting a bigger SD option? And why? For the included games or mostly for the required space of the OS, emulators and roms? Thx
It's worth the bigger SD option if you don't k own where to get your ROMs. Units sold with rooms are still illegal, which is why you have the SD card outside of the device when you buy it. But I do like that this one has room for Roms on both Sd cards. That helps set this one away from the pack.
After playing a ton of games and years of watching videos landscape on a phone or a table I've gotten so used to left being volume up and right being volume down. Whenever I use my switch it completely throws me. Phone layout has ruined my monkey brain.
The fact that companies still even release handhelds with digital triggers drives me crazy. I'm tired of companies thinking they can get away with it just because Nintendo did unfortunately which was one of Nintendo's worst moves in my opinion. Analog triggers have been the standard for well over 20 years now.
I give Powkiddy a bit of a pass on that with this device because Dreamcast is the only console it can emulate that had analog triggers. PS1 and PSP didn't. Neither did any of the Nintendo handhelds or the N64. Anything that can reasonably run GameCube or PS2 absolutely should have analog triggers though.
@Matt Davis Oh yeah, I totally get it. Most games that something like this would support are mostly pre-analog trigger consoles anyways, so it's kinda pointless on some cheap emulation device, but still. I can't imagine that including them would be that expensive as opposed to digital if all though and I'm sure they'd still come in handy for the the games that support it. And I was pretty sure that ps1 did add analog trigger support later ob but I might be mistaken.
Odd options on this one bud. 🤔 Processor and battery size. Open source is cool but the price is all wrong hope they can do a x55 pro with the better changes that suggested and stock the Linux mod. Also correct spelling miss took lol.😅😂

But the design is beautifull! Compact and looks good.
I want more kid reviews like this one
0:40 One of the greatest games in existence.
Taki : 15:16
Powkiddy: 'take it easy ....Taki...sheesh' 😰
I always see reviews of handhelds hate clicky buttons and want soft spongy buttons. Where my fellow clicky button lovers at? Clicky buttons feel really satisfying and responsive
I like clicky buttons, but it can go too far to an extreme :\
@@TakiUdon well yeah can't argue with that but point still stands so many vids I watch complain about them whereas I adore them. But yeah if they wake the neighbours up no thanks lol
...I appreciate your videos, but regarding this handheld, and many others, I don't understand why multiple models using the same chip are released month after month, year after year now, just saturating the market. What's the point?
If we are talking the same company using the same chip with different form factors, I can see the benefit. If it's the same company, the same chip, and the same form factor, that's kind of useless.
I can’t seem to get ps1 games to work on here does this happen with you?
I am VERY new to this scene (so new I haven’t even made my first purchase) and I am wondering what people would recommend for a first-timer. Seems this X55 is good, but I see one person rave and another jeer in response. Being a Mac person my whole life and basically NO understanding of the ROM community, but a desire to learn, what would you recommend for ease of use and stays in that $200 or less range?
Just depends on what you want to play
Like if you're just going up to the PlayStation a Miyoo Mini Plus or the lower end Anberic ones are great.
which one is better to get powkiddy x28 or powkiddy x 55
They offer various SD card sizes (4) with different number of games included.. is it worth getting a bigger SD option? And why? For the included games or mostly for the required space of the OS, emulators and roms? Thx
It's worth the bigger SD option if you don't k own where to get your ROMs. Units sold with rooms are still illegal, which is why you have the SD card outside of the device when you buy it.
But I do like that this one has room for Roms on both Sd cards. That helps set this one away from the pack.
I bought one of these and found it incredibly cheap feeling. It also stopped working when I tried to load my own ROMS. The D-pad sucks as well.
After playing a ton of games and years of watching videos landscape on a phone or a table I've gotten so used to left being volume up and right being volume down. Whenever I use my switch it completely throws me. Phone layout has ruined my monkey brain.
Is there a possible fix for the clicky shoulder buttons?
Does Final Fantasy 7 for PS1 come preloaded?
Little Taki so cute!
"Heat shield" doesn't make sense, we are not trying to re-enter the atmosphere, I think it's a EMI shield and heat spreader.
Is the RGB max 2 better ?
Applause for the OnlyROMs gag!
A game/console list would’ve been nice.

@@TakiUdon thank you!
Odd options on this one bud. 🤔 Processor and battery size. Open source is cool but the price is all wrong hope they can do a x55 pro with the better changes that suggested and stock the Linux mod. Also correct spelling miss took lol.😅😂
