This is a fun lens! Is nice to practice using the focal length at that low price point and light weight.

Ive actually had fun with it. It’s very sharp wide open! And excellent around f8 as well

Something to note too is there is an update for the lens I believe to help address some bugs. I just got it recently as well and thought the focus was a bit off I have yet to test after updating.

Connor I tried to figure out how to upload the firmware on my Mac and could not find the file after I downloaded it. So I too have not upgraded the firmware

I love my Viltrox 23mm f/1.4... it's an outstanding performer, and has pretty much changed my life... I can photograph anywhere, anytime, under s**t light.

Greg, changed your life? I have the original Fuji 23 f 1.4 and it’s outstanding but just a little slow focusing.

Greg - check out the MTF chart for the Viltrox 56 1.7 and the Viltrox 1.4 the 1.7 is better sharpness wise.

What a terrific and affordable lens! Appreciate you making this video. Too bad the price has gone up to $180 😮 Not a lot, but still a surprising jump.

Nice overview of the lens. I just bought the Fujifilm X-S20 to have a smaller travel camera kit than my Sony full frame gear. I purposely opted for the small XC15-45 lens and bought the XF27f2.8 pancake lens as a faster prime. The 3rd lens is this Viltrox 56mm f1.7 for portraits. I don’t have enough experience to comment about image quality but I have read a few positive reviews. The good image quality coupled with its compact size and low price makes it a perfect fit for my needs.

As always, an entertaining and informative video, always fun for a gear head like me to window shop for new stuff.
While we’re talking, your review of the Tamron 18 to 300 mm lens helped me make a decision to buy it. I put the lens on my XT3 and then moved it to my new XT5 last March. I have not taken the lens off since I bought the camera. I guess you could say I turned the XT5 into a “point and shoot bridge camera”? I have to say that, set up this way, I am having the same fun making photographs now as when I got my first Fujifilm SLR back in the early 70s.
Now here comes my question. What do you think about the macro attachments that can be put on the front of the lens? Do you think I would get any use out of putting a Roblox 150 on my camera lens just for casual macro shots. And again, keep those cards and videos coming,

Albert I’m kind of stumped. I have never used the 18-300 or done a review of it so you must have me mixed up with someone else. That being said I cant really comment on the close up attachment. I’ve always felt add on attachments degrade the quality somewhat. The Fujifilm closeup tubes are awesome though from what I understand. I’ve been meaning to give one of those a try.

good video, Options are always a good thing, this is a very cheap lens. not much more than the manual focus Chinese lenses.
WR is not that big a deal at least not in this price bracket, my Fuji XF 35mm F/1.4 has no WR and that has been problem free for 10 years, you just need to not get them soaking wet (or go to harsh conditions etc)
I'll not be getting this as I am more than happy with the Sigma 56mm F/1.4 DC DN (and no aperture ring really makes no difference to me)

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography
      @KirkWilliamsonphotography  16 дней назад

It has been fun using it. I don’t see it getting a lot of use. I’m sure if one takes care of it it will last a little while but it for sure won’t hold up to abuse. Just a little banging around will probably throw the focus out.

Good video, but these Chinese lenses do nothing for me, I prefer to stick with OEM offerings, especially photo gear.

Well that’s good for you but from my perspective I am pleased I have embraced some of the third party lenses. I have around a dozen Fuji lenses, including the best lens I have ever used and that includes Canon L series lenses for many years. That is the Fujinon 200mm f2. I also have half a dozen third party, all of which are Chinese. The quality varies and overall is not as good as Fuji lenses but the Viltrox are. This 56mm f1.7 lens is amazing for the price. However the Viltrox 75mm f1.2 and 27mm f1.2 are brilliant regardless of the price. So I would keep an open mind on the third party lenses. Some of them outperform the Fuji equivalent in my view and offer terrific value for money.
