Thank You! Excellent video and directions. This senior fixed her own foot pedal :) You represent the best of RUclips....people sharing their knowledge with others. You're awesome!
I fixed it. Just a little bit of scraping and all better now. This inside was lightly different and the bottom plate on the foot slides off and back on. Thank you! 🌹🌺🌹
Thank you for showing us what to do. Lol tho, why would I take my sewing machine , to sewing machine specialist. That's why we have utube to save money on something so easy. Before using utube, my sewing machine the timing was off. Took it to get fixed, 150 $. It happened again after a few days. I looked it up and fixed it myself. Haven't had an issue since then on the timing. Right now dealing with it idling.
So interestin this electrical "compressed carbon disks switch". I got one here, branded Elgin, it measures infinite to ~1k Ohm to a few Ohm. Thank you for showing this.
It likely slides off and back on. Mine did. I got it off and back on again and scraped the blade that touches the carbon. So simple a fix. Had been contemplating buying a replacement. In fact I had bought a replacement motor and foot, but this particular machine is wired differently. So I lamented until today.
I have this very same foot pedal, recently inherited my machine from my grandmother, and I am trying to determine the specs on the thermal resistor beneath the heat shrink of the leads. Do you happen to have a schematic or could you look at your own to share the info on that part. Mine is blown and am trying to replace it (I have experience in electronics and am comfortable with the replacement, but can't get the info off mine). Thank you!
Thank you for the video. I've repaired and restored other foot pedals of the Singer button type with two rheostat rows of disks. This does not appear to be any more complicated than those. Why would I want to have a service repair specialist do this for me, from your excellent video?
It's good that you can repair. But an inexperienced craftsman can make a mistake and there are times when the pedal burns out if you leave the machine plugged in for a long time.
I have a question about the ceramic block. The machine I just bought had a rattle-y foot pedal just like this. Upon opening, saw that block had split down the center, releasing all of the graphite discs. Can I super glue the ceramic block back together, then clean and reinsert the graphite discs to still use this pedal?
@@susanwade9661 Give it a try, what do you lose? I would be very careful that you may cause a dangerous problem causing a electrical short or even a fire. To me if you are not comfortable with these type of repairs, it may be safer to get a new part or a replacement controller.
@@sewway thanks. Cleaning the machine did help. But the foot pedal runs at one speed. I cannot control the speed with the pedal. I will look for another pedal.
@@whyldthing86 Thank you. I ordered a new one and it should be coming in the mail soon. Once I get it.....I will try to replace those components on the old one. Thanks again.
@@whyldthing86 Probably someone who has more experience in electronics can check the circuit board and components such as the resistors, capacitors for continuity.
Thank You!

A good rust remover such as CLR would have made cleaning the contact surface so much easier!

It's my pleasure
This video was so helpful to me, thank you very much 😊

I have a very similar foot pedal but I can't unscrew it because there's no screw at the bottom or the sides. Please Help!

Thank you for this tutorial, it is helpful. Mine stopped working yesterday but like you advised I will take it to a specialist.
Thank you once again.

@@sewway Very true, but who ever leaves a sewing machine plugged in when not in use - learns very quickly not to do that.
All right, but better warn. Thanks.

Mine have stopped working completely. I've not used it for over 10 months and there has been some water damage, what can I do to fix it?
You need to contact a sewing machine repairman
Or buy the same pedal, used
@@sewway thank you so much for replying, I think I will replace it after all
Missing plugin to machine

How to wire the cord back
I have a plastic foot pedal that has a circuit board. The machine is no longer sewing as fast. What part in the circuit board is faulty?
What part of the board is faulty?
Sorry, but I cannot answer this question. Contact a sewing machine repairman.

Amreekan most of the time, a resistor or a capacitor will be at fault (or the first ones to fail) if your controller contains a circuit board.
