“She has a miraculous voice, musical ability, and technique, as well as an innate gift for entertaining a crowd.” -Wall Street Journal (March 16, 2021)
With a repertoire running the gamut from swing to bebop to the Great American Songbook, Veronica Swift is a young but fully fledged star on the international jazz scene. Boasting a clear and lilting tone and radiant stage presence, she is also a master of rigorous vocal techniques like vocalese and scat. In the Wall Street Journal’s words: “[Swift] might be the best scat singer since Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’Day, Sarah Vaughan and Mel Tormé.”
Having first gained widespread attention in high-profile collaborations with the likes of Wynton Marsalis and Chris Botti, she has developed a devoted following among audiences. On stage, Veronica will be performing selections from her 2021 album, This Bitter Earth, along with additional jazz standards, rock classics, and more.
As Swift remarked recently, “This performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival is not only a comeback after a long hiatus of no gigs, but it is a rebirth…. The songs I’ve picked for this show encompass some of This Bitter Earth’s message, but also we have included new songs that mix classical with rock and roll and funk as well as jazz. I now know, my purpose as an artist is to break down these genre barriers and fully immerse the audience in what to me is just simply: music.” Видеоклипы
If you are a Veronica Swift fan, this is one of the best produced performances of hers I have seen to date. Don't get me wrong, she is aways great as are her bands. The integrity of this video, the visuals and the audio are impecable and don't get in the way of this brilliance in any way. Rock on Veronica and friends!! To all of you about to expierience this work, enjoy!!!
I am not sure if he is still doing but I have done some studio sessions (I play harmonica) with the Engineer Ron Davis. At that time, as I understood, he had been the head engineer at the Monterey Jazz Festival for 18 years (this was quite a few years ago) and he shared with me about the simultaneous live performance, radio broadcast and recording has was managing on the main stage. He is a world-known excellent engineer if he is still doing the gig.

I been binging since last nite when I discovered Veronica. I am definitely a fan! Such a delightful voice, sensibility, and passionate persona. Yes! Great Great performance.
She’s phenomenal ♥️

always new she could SING anything,
now we know she can WEAR anything...
YOU GO GIRL!!!
Dominatrix of Jazzz
more like the gaga of jazz but way more talented
her voice is insanely versatile.....to be able to go from lilting jazz singing to scat to throaty rock vocals is just beyond talented
I am a huge V Swift fan. This was an interesting departure for me from listening to her jazz work. I'm a vocalist myself and Veronica is just a huge talent - a brilliant jazz singer. I get it though. She is young with mad musical skills and not content to keep doing the same thing over and over again. This was completely new music to me from her. I'd love to see her go the route of Kurt Elling and stay closer to her jazz roots but still be able to do new and fresh music. Whatever she does - it's going to be interesting to watch. What a gift she is.
I agree. You captured the same thoughts I share. (Her mom is equally excellent.)
I too agree. I really want her to stay close to jazz but...@@SandyR145
A prodigious young talent who left the great Wynton Marsalis in awe (see Cherokee) who grew up in the footsteps of her jazz musician parents, is now finding her own voice. Veronica cares deeply about the world and wants to touch everybody. I hear you.
Wonderful performance of a wonderful singer and entertainer at Monterey Jazz Festival . This woman can activate anyone easily- even the public ! Marvelous ! Beautiful ! Veronica Swift!
I don't know what Jazz is but I can listen to this all day.
Veronica Swift is Sensational !! The New Voice in Jazz!!
She is great, been helping me ove my Amy Whinehouse loss....
She's a beast
She's a sequinned beast.

She's incredible. And what a band!
Wow, double bass sounds here like fretless Precision.
Incredible all! Awesome band. Veronica the best ❤
great talent great outfit
Amazing performance!
Well . . . .this was unexpected. And very interesting...Piano, Mathis Picard, has definitely raised my personal bar. What a tight group , I'm going just stop now and listen . . . .
GOD, SHE IS SENSATIONAL!!!!!! She neeeeeds to be wayyyyy more heard!! Please come to NJ (or NY) 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I’ve got her on my iTunes playlist. Thank you for sharing your God given gift with us 🥰🤩
Great performance & video. I’m a big fan of Veronica Swift, love her music. One of these days I hope to attend the MJF, it’s on my bucket list!
Hatts-off!! 🎩🙌
Unbelievable performance 👏🏿👏🏿
Jesus!!
I only watched the Duke Ellington tune where she mimicked J.Joplin..wow!
CRAZY GOOD!!...
Love her as a singer, but she should fire her costume designer
I agree. You dance with who brought you. Jazz musicians drive me crazy with the push the boundaries thing with their music and in this case garb. Stay in your lane: you’re not a pop star.
La più grande
The BANK TOO, WOWWWWWWW! PERFECTION ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
Never heard of this lady before but she is very impressive.
It’s nice to see the good music is not totally gone, in spite of the hip-hop garbage
Although the Janis Joplin type screaming could be left out
True talent for sure!!
Awesome for my .....Nice Veronica .....
Anita O Day is back...brava
Amazing singer and a pretty womam!
The New Black in vocal jazz
Yeah!!!!!!!! B
She should be nominated for a Grammy
I do believe I could find space in my day to listen to this every day phenomenal breakout go go go
I can hear Ella so much in her interpretations😊
That's why I fell for her the first time I listened to a tiny concert with Emmet Cohen. The perfect scat, just like the Lady
Not sure how RUclips recommended this but there will be no violent objections from me... Close your eyes and you get a bit of Ella, a bit of Sarah? Not comparing, just admiring the talent...
check out her work with Wynton Marsalis on Cherokee! A completely different experience and just WOW!
She is amazing what else can you say
Wonderful performance ! Bravo !
I'm saddened by these commenters saying her outfit makes her seem less talented or genuine. It's just clothes. Jazz has historically been an outlet for people constrained by social norms, so these statements are especially ironic. And this a music FESTIVAL. This performance is naturally going to be more outlandish than a traditional jazz bar.
Never heard of her, but going to see her at the Detroit Jazz Festival. Awesome voice, love the wild get up, and her moving to the music when she isn't singing. Excited!!
Saw her in Detroit and picked up her new record. She's brilliant!
When you have a jazz gig at 5 and a musical tribute to Lady Gaga at 6:30. 😂😂😂
Anyway, Veronica's vocals are just mesmerizing! Amazing!!! 👏🏽
😀❤❤❤👍
Qui sont les musiciens qui entourent Veronica et d'ou viennent t'ils?
"More and More" was a Blood Sweat and Tears tune.
Sounds like Keely Smith
She's great. On my must see list. Is it just me, or does she sound a bit like Eydie Gorme?
Definitely channels some Eydie. But great in her own right.
Channels some Janis too!
Veronica is an exceptional musician. One of the few standouts of her generation. She is also someone who is highly sensitive as an artist. One of the things that I notice about her is that she is up to the task when it comes to playing with good musicians. She will match or exceed them. Another thing I've noticed is that in so many instances she carries lesser talent. Unfortunately, she does this a lot. Most of the musicians that gig with her are good. But, they are not up to the her standard.
If you really want to see Veronica shine, place her with good musicians. And, Veronica if you are reading this, make a clear distinction between the musicians you choose to enjoy playing around, and those with whom you choose to make great music.
This is just my opinion. At Monterey, Veronica sang her butt of. But, she also carried her musicians. Listening to these musicians, I would have only brought along the pianist. Apart from that, I would have gone with a different group of talent.
Brian Viglione is a fantastic drummer. I agree with you on the others.
Nah Brian Viglione is on-point. He's the reason I even know who Veronica Swift is.
I'm not sure what band you were watching, but the talent of the musicians on this stage is remarkable. From Grammy winners, to esteemed music school professors, and every one having played with legends in the business. It is no wonder she chose to use most of these players on her newest album.
TransGenre! Love it!
Thats one lucky bass player!.... if you know what I mean
RIDICULOUS COSTUME, straight out of the yet-unrealized BATGIRL death metal dept. =How unjazZINGly unhinged can u get. No way 4 a sophisticated lady ...
Has Veronica ever recorded Season In The Sun?
42:57
É uma gata e canta bem demais.
She's just like Luke Spiller!!! Give me a thumbs up if you agree!
Massive talent, totally unnecessary outfit, pampering to the broken pop culture of today having to be half undressed to be taken serious. You are much better than that. Great performance btw.
Talent without taste can be disastrous.
Prefer her to the Taylor variety.
TBH the showbiz style put me off a bit though the sugarcane version of 'Don't Listen 'Til You Hear From Me' was really interesting. I hope her voice can take singing like Janis Joplin. There is so much pressure on artists to adhere to industry expectations. Her depth and breadth of color, dynamics, dexterity and range was a bit lost in this heavily produced band. All good though. She is an artist still finding her way and exploring different mediums of expression as do all great artists.
I too hope her vocal chords can stand her singing like Janice Joplin. It is my understanding that singing like that can permantly damage your vocal chords and change your voice and not in a positive way. I have seriously listened to jazz for over 70 years and can cite three instances where singing like that is a very bad idea. 1. Is Janice Joplin and what her voice became. 2. Is a young woman that was learning to sing jazz in Port Aransas. Texas, who had a beautiful voice but started to sing like that and the crowd went wild and wanted more, but fortunately there were two musicians who took her aside and cautioned her not to sing like that. 3. Is Lon Chaney, Jr. who one Halloween to please some kids started to abuse his vocal chords to sound like a monster and the kids wanted more and more and he complied, but it ruined his voice. Lon Chaney, Jr. back in the day made a number of scary horror movies. Scary at least to a young kid like me. I hope someone can get this information to Veronica. It would break my heart if she ruined her voice.
I get the costume trying to get noticed making “a statement” …. too bad she doesn’t sound gay like “Charlie Puth” she’d have an undeserved Grammy already 😂😂 …. as soon as I heard this girl sing ONE note I was drawn in. Ellen Degenerous … why don’t you look for artists like THIS to put in your show lol 😂
Lady Gaga in the wrong gig?
Gaga can sing a bit of jazz though.
@@naj_z haven't seen her improvise in the bebop style yet though.
I think there's distinct possibility that in future years she'll look back on this and think " maybe that look wasn't the best choice "
I agree. Going sensationalist in appearance lessens my attention to her singing.
I also agree. I don't get the costume thing at all. She is a fine jazz singer, and a pretty lady.
@@bobaldo2339 Just hit me. She wants to be the next Madonna, an image unworthy of her talent. Next she'll be swiveling and bump-and-grinding her hips.
She comes across as someone who hasn't found her own voice or identity yet. She tends to talk, sing, and dress like she's doing an imitation of someone else. Sort of playing a character. Obviously she's a fantastic vocalist, but she'll be next level when she comes into her own.
@@lindaweimer9849 literally what are you saying? It’s literally just a look. If she wants to dress that way, she can. She’s the artist here, not you 🤣such a stupid thing to say
Too emotional and overdressed. Pop sensibility.
This would be a big NO! She has absolutely no authentic soul. Not impressed.
im sorry? is this sarcasm
Wonderful music, but unwatchable from the point of view of the look. Veronica wonderful voice, one of the most effective ever
