hey man, great track! I'm approaching it in a slightly different way: G dorian for Gm7 first 2 bars, C Dorian (G minor) over Cm then one bar each: G minor (focus on Am7b5 arpeggio), D Altered, G minor pentatonic, D altered (or D minor pentatonic sometimes not sure)

Hello! I love your backing track but would like to clarify that G Aeolian does not work on the entirety of this track. Pulling from this scale we see the relative major is Bb major , home to Bb and Eb as its accidentals. Therefore your Am7b5 works as the half diminished chord living on the second degree of the scale , but Ab7 with tension sharp eleven is a dead giveaway as a Sub V of I (one). You do not use a diatonic scale for this chord. You have to use Lydian Dominant, a combination of Lydian and Mixolydian.

If you want to improvise with a backing track, in this case, the backing track is in G minor, do you need to "always" use the "same" key as the backing track? Do backing tracks always stay in the "same" key throughout? This is the "first" time I want to try my hand at improvising. Thanks.

i get lost on tgat Ab7#11 what scale should i use? i used tge mixolydian mode of E because it fits in, sort of.
No don’t worry, it’s a tritonic substitutions of D7 you can use Ab Lydian b7 or D superlocrian, it’s the same notes

Usually I try to make backing track that stay in the same key for the improvisors ( instead of backing tracks with modulations ) 🤗
