carefully slip a small straight end screwdriver under one end and slowly carefully pull and pry one end off , it bends easily so it does not take a lot of pressure just pull up gently and it will come right off , then to put it back on just align the cap up so the oil port hole is on the top and side clip holes line up , put one end in the clip hole and gently snap the other one into place

Also some of the older lanterns will have 2 small screws , just remove accordingly .
