      I mostly use the Tamron 17-28 and 28-75 for my wide angle and mid-range landscapes.

    Nice explanation on how this is done....however you state a 10% increase in zoom wil be sufficient in most cases. So basically you got from 17mm for the foreground image just to 18,7mm for the background image......i very much doubt a 18,7mm is what was used in your example image for the background. 17mm to 28mm is a 60% increase .

      Meant to say 10mm, but of course it depends on the image and the focal length.
