I used to think that meinl made the best rides, sabian made the best crashes, and that zildjian made the best hats. This video changed all of that. I have a newfound love for meinl.
Maybe you're right but it could also be because of how the microphones have captured them (: If you go onto the Meinl site and checkout the samples recorded of each of these cymbals they sound very 'ballsy'!
@Muffin337 if you look close, they don't have the same angle of concave towards the center of the china, making chinas with a "flatter" surface will take away from that "kha" sound and make it more of a splashy "piesh" sound. I have one for my kit and it's soooooo sweet live.
@Beersnbikes257 That's not entirely true. Its the design of the cymbals it's self. they seem very shallow and the size of the 'bend' isn't very big. Mic placement has next to nothing to do with it.
And it is definitely the audio from this video session. You can see at around 1:20 the snare hits sound weaker when he doesn't hit the center of the head.
For everyone complaining about the china hits: he's not using Meinl's best chinas. The Byzance Series is the best china I've ever heard. Listen to any china hits from Born of Osiris or Lamb of God.
@bullsonurmom55 I know you wrote this awhile ago but what Paiste Alpha china did you have? rock or brilliant or trad? size? ;0 i wanna know a first hand opinion because no videos really do them justice. >.
1:56 to 2:09 is also used in Charmer, haha I thought it was funny that he used the same exact drum part for two songs. None the less, great drummer, I really dig his stuff. Especially how he uses his splash and china cymbals, been a big influence for my drumming lately.
@G1NG3RYS Given the fact that i learnt english by myself by watching movies and listening to music.. it's works fine, for me. How's your portuguese, or your spanish or even better your french? That's what i thought.
You can win a select set of these classics cymbals from what I read on the contest page, but I don't like the china's, I feel they are too clean almost like a crash. Maybe it's just me but I have no idea.
i actually love the chinas, used a zildjian oriental at a gig the other week and would've happily used these rather than that, it just cut through everything drowned out the right side of the stage and deafened me :/
@merksperk2 I don't think it's the actual recording. It's not mixed well enough into the song. Plus he's showcasing the new custom classic cymbals Meinl came out with. He normally uses Mb20's and Byzance chinas (WHICH ACTUALLY SOUND LIKE FUCKING CHINAS lol).
@Ruzic99 Hahahaha I was reading your comment right at that part and I thought he was hitting a crash until I scrolled back up and saw he was hitting the china.
Actually it happened to me. You just need to learn how to deal with it. You can grab another stick in less than a second and everything is fine. If it's obvious that you drop the stick, keep playing with one hand (if it's an easy part) and ask the bassist to grab your stick/do something funny with your free hand/wave at the audience. It usually just amuses the audience, you can recover with a huge throw if you can too... Stick tricks are all about fun, even if you drop a stick.
@chance333777 because i real drummer knows that you don't need a 7 piece set and 30 cymbals to make music. Even this many cymbals is unnecessary. All you need is a bass, snare, one rack tom, one floor tom, hi hats, a crash or two, and a ride. That is all that is needed to make some sweet drumming.
@dethmagnet21 Just search Meinl Classics Custom. All of the cymbals used in this video are from that line (except the bells, which are from the standard Classics line). There's a couple of videos from Meinl showcasing pretty much the entire line of cymbals (standard and 'powerful'). I was looking into picking up a few, but after watching this video, I'm actually very glad i didn't. I LOOOVVE my Byzance and Mb20 cymbals, but the Classics Customs sound WEAK. Especially those chinas. Crashes are ok
@JanBurnsRed actually it is literally that china, go to my channel I recorded like 30 seconds of him doing Lamnidae and you can clearly hear the difference between the china in this video and the china he plays live. You cant complain about free cymbals though ha.
Still finding myself coming back to these videos years and years later. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
So creative in his drum patterns. Gotta love Grant's drumming. Too bad he isn't in This Or The Apocalypse anymore.
As a guitarist, man, both chinas are SUPER bright. I don't mind their sound at all. It feels like they just aren't loud enough.
I used to think that meinl made the best rides, sabian made the best crashes, and that zildjian made the best hats. This video changed all of that. I have a newfound love for meinl.
I love the ride
I like your video way better than what meinl did to it!!!! Better angles at the right time, keep up the amazing work!!!!
LOVE the bass line in this song! Also, good job for switching to Meinl cymbals :D
Maybe you're right but it could also be because of how the microphones have captured them (:
If you go onto the Meinl site and checkout the samples recorded of each of these cymbals they sound very 'ballsy'!
Get it right people... these are Meinl's Classics Custom Series... Classics Series are made of B8 alloy... these are B10 alloy.
Awesome Video .....
Very Nice, from Colombia !!!
its amazing to me how you play so close to the snare, and with your seat so low, and not hit your hand on the snare, but i guess ur use to it
@Muffin337 if you look close, they don't have the same angle of concave towards the center of the china, making chinas with a "flatter" surface will take away from that "kha" sound and make it more of a splashy "piesh" sound. I have one for my kit and it's soooooo sweet live.
thats a an amazing set of cymbals and grant style is effin amazing (:
Awesome dude to talk to! Great drummer live as well !
Dude, your playing is Incredible, Also nice kit!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have personally met Luke Holland and when I met him he was a total dude. He's really chill and was extremely nice to me.
I have watched this video i think 30 times already haha.
Timing = awesome!
@Beersnbikes257 That's not entirely true. Its the design of the cymbals it's self. they seem very shallow and the size of the 'bend' isn't very big. Mic placement has next to nothing to do with it.
@thatmaninclothes Grant McFarland is This Or The Apocalypse's drummer. Just so you know, haha
Wow , that was soooo sick!
And it is definitely the audio from this video session. You can see at around 1:20 the snare hits sound weaker when he doesn't hit the center of the head.
@NeverSettleFilm When are they coming :) ?
grant was this or the apocolypse's best drummer by far, the one they have now doesn't even come close
For everyone complaining about the china hits: he's not using Meinl's best chinas. The Byzance Series is the best china I've ever heard. Listen to any china hits from Born of Osiris or Lamb of God.
I love the splash and bell action ...and the daisy dukes!
Have you seen any recent videos? He started using WAY more wrist.
i love this cymbals :)
is it possible to get a full list of cymbals used in this video?
what is this thing called, which you have on your ride?
Its just called a Bell cymbal.
@bullsonurmom55 I know you wrote this awhile ago but what Paiste Alpha china did you have? rock or brilliant or trad? size? ;0 i wanna know a first hand opinion because no videos really do them justice. >.
@AxisKing1 its for the Meinl Classic cymbols thats why hes using those chinas
@Muffin337
The drum audio in this video is from the actual recording of the song.
Best part about the video is being able to hear the bass (electric bass) in the mix.
Does anyone know what kind of cameras are being used in this video?? Thanka in advance:)
I wish I could make it to the show this year. ABR TIJ AND TOTA holy crap that’ll be an amazing show.
I’ll be filming 😎
@@JandyZapata your going??? PLEASE record all the sets. They won’t livestream and I’m in Florida I’m not making it all the way there! Lol.
1:56 to 2:09 is also used in Charmer, haha I thought it was funny that he used the same exact drum part for two songs.
None the less, great drummer, I really dig his stuff. Especially how he uses his splash and china cymbals, been a big influence for my drumming lately.
he has a custom pdp kit and a custom pdp snare, and recently got a new DW Kit
I believe that it's not the sound of these cymbals that are sounding... but the recorded in studio... or a playback... i dunno...
Who make's the kit he's playing? It sounds very good.
Meinl asks all endorsers that make videos of them playing to use Meinl classics in at least one videos, these aren't the cymbals he usually uses.
i love the kit is it a truth custom kit?
@NeverSettleFilm seriously!? this would be awesome! though matt's videos are epix aswell ;D
For the amount of drumming and skills this man possesses you would think his legs would be thicker then his wrists. WTF
nice bro yo what kind of drum set is that
I believe so!
did you film while he was recording or just a reanactment?
what's that on the stand behind him? is that a mixer for inner ear monitors?
Fuck yeah Grant, beat that kit like it owes you money.
the cymbals you get.. is a classics custom set
or all thos cymbals on the video
I think he was doing a demo or a promo for the Classics/Classics Custom series
@hardon4babes luke holland has nothing to do with this video. and why would you tell someone to raise their seat if they have it comfortably set?
@Muffin337 Yeah seriously. Idk why though, I have a Meinl China and I absolutely love it -- makes the perfect sound a china cymbal shoud make.
Is he still playing in ToTa??? Or has he quit?
@G1NG3RYS Given the fact that i learnt english by myself by watching movies and listening to music.. it's works fine, for me.
How's your portuguese, or your spanish or even better your french?
That's what i thought.
@weed940 the one where he plays charmer?
what is the tempo for this song? in metronome.
You can win a select set of these classics cymbals from what I read on the contest page, but I don't like the china's, I feel they are too clean almost like a crash. Maybe it's just me but I have no idea.
i actually love the chinas, used a zildjian oriental at a gig the other week and would've happily used these rather than that, it just cut through everything drowned out the right side of the stage and deafened me :/
@AxisKing1 For sure. It's a beauty too :)
What size is the bass drum?
Awesome bro!!! :D
Im quite sure the problems are the mix and mics' possitions.
@Scatology900
the marks on the snare look off-center though, and i find a sweet spot is generally away from the center. thats just me though :)
what kind of evans snare head is that
when did grant leave the band?
is your snare ludwig black beauty ?
what are the specs of your kit and cymbals?
how long have u been playing drum
That bass sound epic :D
@corbin615 its a normal stand with additional arms and clamps added on
@merksperk2 I don't think it's the actual recording. It's not mixed well enough into the song. Plus he's showcasing the new custom classic cymbals Meinl came out with. He normally uses Mb20's and Byzance chinas (WHICH ACTUALLY SOUND LIKE FUCKING CHINAS lol).
the snare is LIKE! :)
i know your supposed to play the song like them but i want someone to make this song their own.
is it Audix D6 on the floor tom?
WHAT A AMAZING~~~
Classic Series. What do you expect?
@Ruzic99 Hahahaha I was reading your comment right at that part and I thought he was hitting a crash until I scrolled back up and saw he was hitting the china.

Is that the Evans Hybrid snare head?????
i dont see why people are hating on luke holland? they are both great drummers
@Muffin337 Its only the classics that sound like that. All of the others sound awesome.
Dude, it's the Classic Series. nuff said xD
@KillingCure i dont think he has a mic close enough to it
@dethmagnet21 Just search Meinl Classics Custom. All of the cymbals used in this video are from that line (except the bells, which are from the standard Classics line). There's a couple of videos from Meinl showcasing pretty much the entire line of cymbals (standard and 'powerful'). i would like to download this version without vocals :3
Unbelievable
What bells are those?
Meinl Classics 8 Bells
i like his style, adam gray and grant both awesome and course matt greiner!
@AxisKing1 Yep!! I love that head!
Why did he leave the band?
@GretschDrummer000 yeah they're on the cheaper side of Meinl's lineup.. that's why they gave away a whole set for free lmao
how do I get my bass drum to sound like that? any suggestions?
@Muffin337 I belive it to be either a crashchina or just a china that is fasten to loose or something.
Shinniest Cymbal set
medium or Powerful ??
Snare head?
@JanBurnsRed actually it is literally that china, go to my channel I recorded like 30 seconds of him doing Lamnidae and you can clearly hear the difference between the china in this video and the china he plays live. You cant complain about free cymbals though ha.
kinda funny that some oft the covers for the meinl contest are much better... :D
