In this episode of The Hunger Fixer's food tour of Melbourne we try typical Australian Fish and Chips shop.
We try the classic thick cut chips and two types of fishes - Flake and Blue Grenadier.
A flake is made from various species of local sharks, most common is a gummy shark.
A Blue Grenadier is also known as Hoki, and commonly used in fish snacks.
We also try Aussie favourite fried snacks such as a Dim Sim, Potato Cake and Chiko Roll.
This fish and chips shop served quality chips and fresh thick sliced fish and it was a delicious experience.

The best fish and chip shop in the world is called "Kingfisher Blue" at the Wheelers Hill shopping centre in Melbourne. Their food is amazing.
Best in the world? Come on you can't be serious. I've eaten their food a few times when visiting relatives in the area and it's pretty good but nothing too special. I'd say it's barely in the top 25% of fish and chip shops I've been to

Hey guys, you all might be aware that in the UK the choice of fish you usually get is cod, haddock and plaice. Haddock is creamy and flaky and I always opt for haddock.
For those who know, what fish in Australia is close to cod, haddock or plaice out there? Do people have vinegar on their chips, I can’t imagine thick cut chips without vinegar.
One potato cake is not enough if you're hungry. You have to eat at least four of them to be happy. Don't forget the Dim Sims and the Chicken Rolls , though !

Will you please stop tempting me? Umm! Lovely taste. I wish I was there, to buy a Fish and Chips, the Dim Sims are fantastic and the Potato Cakes, and the Chicken Rolls ,are lovely too. I was there in 2003 . I would love to come back for a holiday again. The covid-19 Pandemic tells me it's not time yet. I've had some Chicken Rolls while in the u.k. a few years ago, they are called Spring Rolls, there. As far as I know , I didn't see proper Chicken Rolls there.
I'm watching this at 2.00 am now I've got a craven for fish and chips and a Coca Cola.

I would say, going to Australia for a holiday, even just to eat the great Australian Fish 'n' Chips from a shop there, would be worthed. You ' ve got the Potato Cakes which you prabably would 't find any where else, in the world, you've got the Chicken Rolls and Dim Sims. Simply great food.

Chips were great, that's just a small pack, you can get a whopping large pack too!

Iam always confused about the name fish & chips shops being authentic as I feel not or maybe is hunger stop for passer.
They are usually catchy names (eg The Happy Snapper) or the names of the owner (eg Marko's Fish & Chips).
Trust me try dipping your chips in oyster sauce! Just a bottle from the supermarket it will change your thoughts on condiments I promise you👍🇦🇺❤️

Yes, we must not forget the Billy Bunter meat pie. When you buy one it's very hot and smells great. I remember burning my tongue on the first bite, as a kid. I just could n't wait to sink my teeth in, while at the Nun's school in Kensington, in Melbourne. Those were the good old days. We did not have to wear Face Masks in those days, no one ever dreamt of Covid-19

So out here in South Africa there are reports that the sharks off our coasts are being fished and sent off to Oz for flake and chips ........ is this true. Are aussies really eating shark thinking that it's normal sustainable fish ? (Not looking for fight just information)

Not really the main shark that gets eaten here in regards to flake is gummy shark as the host said, others do get eaten here but it’s not that common, apart from in the Chinese and Vietnamese areas.

No, I didn't know that. Most Fish and Chip shops in Melbourne were run by Greeks and Italians and now they are taken over by Chinese. It doesn't matter who runs them, as long as the fish is fresh and the quality is good!

Thanks for the tip! Pizza On Patterson looks decent and reasonably priced. Any particular favorites from the menu ? I'm thinking of introducing the Hawaiian to our international foodies as a unique thing we do here.
The Hunger Fixer they do a great hawaiian - but my personal favorite from their menu is the Volcano! Definitely one you don’t see very often.
2 mins down the road there is surrey hills fish and chips one of the best fish and chip shops ever!

You would also Order a Big Bottle of Coca-Cola ( 1.25ltr) icy cold and take that away with your fish n chip meal .....

I did get flake I think, it's my favorite.
Blue grenadier is nice, most flake you get now is frozen mush
