I was waiting for one of the Anitubers or Japanese myth and culture orientated channels to discuss this really cool game. I love how it uses Japanese myths, legends and yokai. Very good analysis.
Thank you for watching, Denis! I totally agree. When I saw the first cut scene, I was stunned by how much time and effort the developers put into the game! 😃
You explained everything so well & now I know the stories behind the characters more in depth. This was exactly the video for the Champion Island Games I’ve been looking for! Thank you for taking the time to research and share this. I thoroughly enjoyed this 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼☺️
Wow this was a really interesting video. I knew of some of the more widely known references, such as the Red and Blue Oni and Momotaro, but had never even heard of some of these things, like the rain yokai or the owl spirit dude before. Fantastic video and keep up the great work :)
Thank you so much for making this video, I learned a lot more abt the folklores now! I've been trying to find out more abt the folklores but it was difficult to find the details, but your analysis is everything I needed! I really love this game, definitely one of the best Google Doodle they've ever made ^_^
Hello, Victor here! I’m so glad you covered this! I never got to finish it but I hope to eventually! I wish it were a downloadable standalone game that I could save and come back to or even play on the Switch. Having kids makes it a bit tough to tank through games :P That said, I also love that you spoke a bit about the treatment of Ainu and Okinawans in order to keep things real and point out how some folks didn’t take the gesture well for good reasons
Also cool to learn that kappa are your favorite yōkai! I eventually need to look more heavily into them since my brain tends to narrow focus on things. I do love the fact that one of their favorite pastimes is sumo!
I can really only think of 1 you missed - the Crow team leader is actually a Yatagarasu, a divine 3-legged crow said to be the embodiment of divine will and intervention. Other than that great work!
@@shivanshgarewal2833 I started playing the Genshin Impact MMO recently and was surprised that they've incorporated the names of Hindu deities into their leveling resources 🤓
Thank you very much for this video I am eager to know about Japanese culture And I am gonna subscribe your channel now ❤❤❤ I hope you get 10 million fast
You’re absolutely right! Kappa are related to Suiko, “water children.” I’m not quite sure why the game designers decided to use a bull yokai for water instead of the kappa, and then relate the kappa to earth/plants instead of finding a more earthy yokai. It was probably just a color language decision (kappa are often green, so green = plants). Good catch! 🤔🤷♀️
If you could choose a Japanese myth or legend to captain an Olympic sport, what would it be? 🏅
Yuki-onna would make a great figure skater! ❄
Kaguya-hime, who is the captain of pentathlon (because there are five tasks to complete).
@@FaoladhTV that’s a good match! 😃
Obviously Momotaro
Kappa? Idk I don't really know any Japanese folklore... :(

Thanks Nicholas! Champion Island was really fun and the quality & playability are impressive, I’m surprised how many people are sleeping on it. 😅
Fantastic analysis, thank you for putting it together! It's ridiculous amount of passion that has been put into this doodle.

Best Google Doodle ever
Right? 😄 I hope Google notices how interested people are and make similar Doodles in the future! Teaming up with an anime studio was genius.
Thanks for making this video

Thank you! You’re so right. I was kicking myself after I made the video that I didn’t count the feet 🤣
2:30 wow that Hinduism reference was kinda surprise
Right? There’s a surprising amount of Hindu influences in Japanese religion, mostly via Buddhism, it’s really interesting! 😃

@@EatPrayAnime hmmm sounds interesting I would also try it in future
I played this game, it was short and good but why is yellow team not winning if I’m the literal CHAMPION of every sport?
My guess is you’re looking at the global team score, which incorporates everybody’s scores from around the world! 😲🌎
it took me 19 minutes to speedrun the game
Wow nice one! 😁
@@EatPrayAnime thanks hope you enjoy the game too
I love this game 😭
my fav colour is blue
Bunbuku Chagama

I can see the resemblance! 😃
I choose team red
Nice choice! I want to play again as Team Red and see what the Karasu dojo looks like on the inside. 😃

Kappa is water monster Koopa in Mario is inspird from kappa

TEAM YELLOWWWWWWWWWE
Huh, I thought lucky was guy until now
I thought so too until I watched the Google behind the scenes video! I didn’t know before that calico cats are predominantly female-science! 🙀
🔵 Ushi = Gryffindor 🟥🟧
🔴 Karasu = Ravenclaw 🟦🟫
🟡 Inari = Slytherin 🟩⬜
🟢 Kappa = Hufflepuff 🟨⬛
Makes sense to me! 😄
Kappa means frog in telugu
Wow, that’s an interesting connection! 😲
