Does anyone think Poland has the most insane border change in history? Stalin literally decided to "move" the entire country a few hundred miles west, not sure if anything else like that ever happened.
Michael Henman There is a logical reason for it. The eastern part of Poland was inhabited by Belarusans and Ukrainians so after the war Stalin gave these regions to the Belarusan and Ukrainian SSR. In exchange he gave Poland Pomerania, Silesia and parts of Eastern Prussia.
Michael Henman Eastern Poland was the "poor" ans underdeveloped part of Poland in which Belarussians and Ukranians where the majority of the Population (except for in Vilnius which had 98% Polish population and Lviv which had around 60% Polish population) and the new Polish lands being Masuria, Pomeria and Silesia where part of the Duchy of Poland in the 10th-11th century. There still are areas where Poles make up up to 80% of the population, mainly in Belarus and Lithuania around their borders, and also there are 900,000 Poles or people of Polish descent in Belarus.
Poles ruined Prussia, Stalin's biggest crime. If only East Germany had the whole territory of the former pre-Unification monarchy Communism would've probably won the Cold War.
The Grand Chiefdom you should remember that the first Stalin’s crime was cleansing of Germans inhabiting Prussia, but there was second-Poles living in eastern parts of Poland didn’t want to lose their homes. They were forced like Germans, so not only Germans were victims
2:13 - Slight mistake. Moldova today includes a little sliver of land sandwiched between the River Dniester and its eastern border - Transnistria, which is actually an unrecognized breakaway state, but anyway. Back in 1933, Moldova's (Romania's) border was set at the River Dniester, with Transnistria being part of the Soviet Union. Seeing how narrow the country is, it probably wouldn't even show up on this map, but I just thought I'd point it out.
Yes. Another little thing I noticed is that Hungary was marked "unchanged", when in fact, Hungary owned a little territory just south of Bratislava, that was given to Czechoslovakia in 1947. It's not a huge deal, but it was still definitely a thing.
I think Lithuania was a lesser partner in the union because Poland was a kingdom and Lithuania was a grand duchy, The Kingdom of Poland + Grand Duchy of Lithuania = Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth. But I may be wrong, as Jagiellon was king of Lithuania before Poland
The thing is, he was a grand duke. A duke has less power and Authority than a King, so he had to become a king. Poland was a KIngdom, so he claimed the title of the king of Poland. He was the King of Poland and Ruled Poland, he had his claim on the Lithuanian throne, but he put his brother there to govern Lithuania. By becoming the King of Poland, he had more authority as he was a king. Because the Only Kingdom in the Personal Union was Poland, Poland was ruling making any other duchy in this sort of united nation. Back then they had a hierarchy, and a King is higher than a duke or a grand duke. If Lithuania was a 'Petty Kingdom' Then Lithuania would be almost at the same level as a normal KIngdom when it comes to the hierarchy in the medieval times. Besides that, if Poland was an Empire and had an emperor, then the title of the Emperor allows to give the titles of KIngs, simply put: Titles did the work, becouse it was a Polish title, Poland had more to say.

Guys enough about Kosovo and Crimea the map he has was made by someone who thinks Kosovo is independent and Crimea is a part of Ukraine they get removed later why do you need to fight about it
Freek Mulder Nah mate, if you knew the history behind Kosovo you'd agree with me. Kosovo used to be filled with Serbs in the 19th century but mysteriously the Serbian population started to decline as the Albanian population increased. This accelerated in ww2 when genocide was commonplace so the Albanians could continue doing as they wished since Nazi Germany gave them Kosovo and supported the genocide of Serbs. Only in 1998 did it become apparent after the Yugoslav wars that something had gone seriously wrong as Kosovo was now full of Albanians and the Serbs were in danger of being exterminated. Then came the KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army) who was a recognised terrorist organisation who tried to kill as many Serbs as possible, if you google a picture of the leader he is holding the severed heads of Serbs. Serbia wasn't very happy with this and sent in forces to stop them which was met with fights and the Albanians decided to take the piss and call for help saying they were being ethnically cleansed by Serbs. In comes NATO, bombs the shit out of Belgrade after already being devastated by the wars in early 1990s. Kosovo doesn't deserve to be an independent state because it is built ok the skulls of millions of serbs and if we let it go we lose our historical sites, lots of land, a part of the country we could use for our economy and our Serbs living there. We lose everything the Albanians get it all when they don't deserve it.
Benamon9 First of all it's Palestine and no they are not satisfied ever with what they are given so long as Israel exists, they refused every deal given to them by the Israelites who are tired of being fire bombed all the time by the Palestinians.
no. finland, estonia, latvia, lithuania, poland, the ussr, romania, italy, bulgaria, west germany and greece would have all been different and some colonies in asia, sourthern europe, and africa on the map
Yugoslavia would not be able to reform. It broke up due to too many ethnic problems. It kinda lead to the joke: If Yugoslavia where to reunite today it would fall apart again tomorrow. Also Israel is not going anywhere. Chough Holocaust chough.

prod. sasquatch Nationalism is what drives these people crazy. And I talk as an italian with german friends... From Mussolini to Hitler I don't know whose nationalism was worse
Russian idiot alert! I am from the United Kingdom and will happily say that Ukraine rightfully owns Crimea, and Russian claims are not democratic nor consented by the Ukrainian government.
The Bottle Without A Lix Crimea became part of Ukraine as a gift without asking the population which was majorily russian back in 1954. Back then there was no such thing as independent Ukraine so it didn't matter as much. BUT, today it is a lot different than it was and if more than 90% of the population is for Russia then Crimea is rightfully russian. Or are you against national referendum that Crimea held(Crimea at the time was autonomic state inside Ukraine with its own council)?
@Shtany Poles didn't steal anything, the Russians drew the new border. If Germany had their way there wouldn't have been a Poland. Germans were reimbursed enough by being allowed to exist as an independent state after what they did in WW2.
@Shtany I'm not Polish and it's not about holding a grudge. Losing that land was their punishment for causing the war and it was a fairly light punishment for what they caused. Anyway it wasn't even the Polish who took it, it was the Russians. I don't understand why you even care, the Germans renounced their claims to that land so it's not really any of your business what should and should be theirs when they themselves no longer want the land.

Greece:*TRIGGERED*
You missed the Hungarian-Czslovak border. Hungary lost 3 villages near Bratislava after ww2.
@Luka Kirasić yeah, thats what he said, so therefore those 3 villages should go to hungary in this map, as it is 1933
He should do 1950, to show changes post-WWII
Awesome video. What about a map for 1920. A lot of thighs have changed
thighs changing? Sounds painful.
AAA, MY THIGHS ARE CHANGING. Fs dude can u even try
I started crying when you were talking about Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia
Russia should give the areas back to Finland, at least Vyborg and Petsamo
Yeah, but idk if Finland would want the Russian residents inside its border.
They should give back just Petsamo and Salla, Karelia has too many people
Elementalic Most of the population is Russian, it’s better off in Russia.
give finland arctic ocean access ;(
No
your accent seems to be native but an r in the 'home rule' 4:43 sounded really interesting
(Jag vet att du är svenne därför skriver jag på svenska) Gör en till fast ändra kartan så att den ser ut som Europa 1648. Det var då det 30 åriga Kriget slutade.
Ja. Det skulle vara kul! Gör om kartan till 1648
Jag håller med. Fortsätt med detta.
Can you make a video of Europe in 1297
Guys enough about Kosovo and Crimea the map he has was made by someone who thinks Kosovo is independent and Crimea is a part of Ukraine they get removed later why do you need to fight about it
My Maternal Great Grandmother was 16 when this map (1933 map) of Europe was present. She passed away in 2012.
0:16 I think there is one country too many *looks at Kosovo*
Kosovo is independent deal with it
and Balesdine
My nation recognizes Kosovo, they got an independent governement, law system, economy and army. They are in my book
Do a video with Europe in 1600 please.
Could you do 1945 please. Great Video
It's weird to think that your great grand parent was probably alive when the Ottoman Empire still existed.
My great grandfather fought against the Ottomans in early 1900s Macedonia, then fought right alongside them in the Bulgarian army in WWI.
@@ArtyCraftZ That's really cool!
Who thinks the map of 1933 was better, give a thumbs up!
tudor mardare E mult mai tare deoarece Romania Mare este pe ea 😅
YellowVyond Germany looks great. Idk what you mean with disturbing
well danzig kinda ruins germany, stupid poland
A lot better...
@@josehernandez2219 Nieder mit dem Korridor!
would the map of 1988 be more or less be the same aside from eastern germany?
U S S R
no. finland, estonia, latvia, lithuania, poland, the ussr, romania, italy, bulgaria, west germany and greece would have all been different
and some colonies in asia, sourthern europe, and africa on the map
Yugoslavia would not be able to reform. It broke up due to too many ethnic problems. It kinda lead to the joke: If Yugoslavia where to reunite today it would fall apart again tomorrow. Also Israel is not going anywhere. Chough Holocaust chough.
It broke because you guys in the West supported nationalist governments in Yugoslavia.
Heh, when you listen to about 1:51 or 1:52 over again, you notice that how he says "Armenia" is a little funny. He's like "Arm-MEE-nyaa". He must have an accent, or something. Great video, by the way. Very accurate, except maybe you should have put in the Demilitarized Rhineland Zone. Where are you from?
The bad thing is that since I play hearts of iron 4 so much, the 1933 one looks way more familiar since I also live in america
Don't worry. I'm with you on that boat as well.
What did you use to make the map
Do Europe in 1980 please
Great video
Nobody:
HOI IV players: Ah, Yes
Imagine saying “the name of this state is QUITE SIMPLE, Czechoslovakia”
Wish you had taken it back to 1913. It would be even more dramatic.
Here's the 1914 version: ruclips.net/video/469Zl8n5oBc/видео.html
What app are u using
Poland, move it!
Aww, again?
Hush, or next time you'll be moved out of Europe!
Please do how europe looked like in 1664
How about 1011
How about 65 million years ago.
Can you make a changing the map of Europe to 1949
That's why European nationalism is such a fraught and pointless subject. Over the last 200 years the map has never looked the same for more than 10 years at a time.
jd rancho the nationalism is what drives these border changes
prod. sasquatch Nationalism is what drives these people crazy. And I talk as an italian with german friends... From Mussolini to Hitler I don't know whose nationalism was worse
jd rancho OK then 1997 to today is not over 20 years anymore? OK, but, i don't recognize Kosovo and Crimean changes so yeah
Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Montenegro
Centered Universe You mean 2006, right? Lmao
Thank you!
"We're gonna give Russia a more fitting colour"
Why do I hear Red Alert music?
My grandfather was born in 1933, he is 87 now
5:38 yeah my grandma
._.
My great grandfather was born the same year the map looked like this and he is still alive
"This is Europe now"... made in 2016 but shows Crimea as part of Ukraine... well alrighty then, lol😂
The Bottle Without A Lix hey, russia controls it so it's Russia's
SkiddyGaming lol
Edgar Rätsep
Correct. I am in fact against the referendum.
I think you should've done that in chronological order, starting with Yugoslavia, then the USSR and so on
MORE!!
Wasn't Albania part of Italy?
*gets triggered about gdansk being called danzig*
Jamesen It's not gdansk... it's Gdańsk
It was the "Freie Stadt Danzig" why should it be called Gdansk ?
Sarmatan Lehitus
In English it’s usually referred to as the “free city of Danzig” to differentiate from when it became part of Poland as Gdánsk.
Good video

Kaliningrad has never been part of Russia before the end of world war 2. They took it from Germany/Prussia
