I have the C220 with the 80. It great. Overall I like your scans. Also, for lab scans there also a operator making decisions. Some labs will work with you to get you more of what you want. At this point I am much happier with my scans and would only send out to a lab if I needed best development and consistent results. Also if I were to need a drum scan and neeeeeed that quality.

Great video! Don't know much about photography or scanning anything but it's quite interesting.

As for the comparisons I think I like them both about 50/50 the one of the boat preferred the home scan, the one of the pier would be I like them both for different reasons, and finally of the man prefer the pro scan.

Great vid!! I enjoyed seeing the comparison between your home scans and a pro lab. I tend to like the warmer tones of your edits on your photos over the greener contrasty ones done by the lab as shown. However, i think a less green shift on the skin tones from the lab would be more pleasing ( to my eye, but it’s all subjective as you know). Can’t wait to see what else is in store on your channel!

great contrast. I am lucky enough to have access to a phase system that is designed for pure repro and archiving at work. Scanning 120 and 4x5 on this is crazy detailed. Although I would say drum scanning has a more 3d feel to them. We use capture 1 to capture on the phase

Color balance is not the issue here, as it can be easily adjusted. Color depth (bits) in the raw output and resolution are the critical factors overlooked in this comparison. A highlight and shadow recovery comparison would have been very interesting to see.

I tried to cover a bit that editing tiffs with increased information from a lab would be superior than just trying to push jpgs into submission. This video was more to open the eyes of some who take lab scans as gospel. I treat lab scans like I do with raw NLP conversions, a good first pass. Requesting tiffs from a lab would be a must.

Sorry, I can’t answer your question with set I prefer. I don’t know what the dynamic range is of the pro scans and what can be done to them in postprocessing..

These were jpg scans delivered from the lab so not much can be done about the shadows or highlight recovery!
