I agree that yellowed white marine pearl does in fact look cool and gives the drums' authenticity', but admire that you can do a good restore of them when they have gone much too far and with cancer spots. I really don't mind the yellow at all. Keep all this great stuff coming Jim, I'm lovin it.
Does anyone know if the materials & processes they’re using today still have the yellowing effect? I’m thinking of getting a Gretsch micro kit in that white marine finish, but I wondered about that. I like white. My other kit is a Gretsch gold/ yellow satin flame from 1971, & I’d just as soon have one white, & one yellow lol. Also, if it’s still the same results how long do they generally take to start to yellow up? Thanks much!
Is it possible to get a very yellowed drum less yellowed as opposed to all the way back to white? I have a very yellowed floor tom I want to match to a slightly yellowed kit.
I've got the 1950s Buddy Rich Set that Buddy Rich in fact gave my father new from the factory. I want to restore it. The shells are extremely yellow. I'd like to know how to go about using the lacquer thinner. I haven't seen any videos on how to apply the lacquer thinner. Such a video is needed and would be very helpful!
I would suggest when you get ready, try a small spot on the bottom side of the kick. Just in case ANYTHING goes wrong, it will be face down in a carpet somewhere.
A far less 'dangerous' method which achieves the same result is to use very fine abrasives to slowly take off the outer finish. Use micromesh sheets starting is 1200 and finish with 12000.
Talked to death and yet after it all, no examples of actually cleaning one up.
Forreal. Good thing i scrolled through the video. All i heard him was being negative lol
22 minutes of rambling and I still haven't seen him whiten a drum yet.
Concise version: "Use lacquer thinner, but follow the directions and be careful with it."

What would you recommend to clean cloudy white haze on a 1960’s Ludwig blue sparkle shell?

On with it already. I was hoping this wasn't gonna be a bunch of yapping.
2013 wise.. still way too much talk and not enough action. I still don't know anything about the techniques used???!!!
