      So we get a kid informing us how great a “band” The Beatles were. Firstly, John Lennon never formed a “band”, he put together a “group”. Listen to his interviews. One will not hear the word “band” but one will hear “group”. All British Invasion acts consisting of three or more musicians were a “group”. The Beatles are great because they changed the culture of planet earth and their music is loved by generation after generation. It’s really quite simple why but very rare to accomplish.

    They moved music to new levels from the beginning to the end of their 7 year reign......their writing is untouchable ....and every album was great.....unheard of......my kids were hearing them when growing up in the 90s and on....and they were asking me to buy them the CDs for Christmas and birthdays.....lol. ...and they got them.

    Perhaps one of the biggest impacts the Beatles had was their personalities. In 1962, the youngsters had the disposable income to afford records. They were also attempting to forge independence from their parents' generation. Suddenly, there were four young men whose insouciance towards grown-ups was very appealing. Their glib humor directed at insulting media questions was quite attractive to their fans. This was the seminal moment of the birth of the youth movement of the sixties.

    (aceopinions=Tom) I am a first generation obsessed fan and was hooked since I first heard : "She Loves You" - a 45 on Swan Records that my older brother brought home. I love seeing so many younger people so appreciative of the Beatles as both musicians and song writers. Many people in the 60/70's assumed the their songs were simple. Well, as many of you know now - FAR from it. Many of their songs have complex chords and time signature changes. They were a super-nova that hit the music world. I find them as fresh today as in the 60's.

    I've Immerse myself in music for decades and I'vve gone through favouring certain genres at different points, Got that one point a couple of decadees ago I had my Beatles years, then I moved on to later music and I''d say my favourite genre is alternative beats, like massivve attack, left field and Portis hhad. However, from an Songwriting standpoint, there is no comparison with other groups. When it comes to comparing them witth others, objectively and subjectivvely, their catalogue is stacked with masterpieces, from multiple genres and subgenres,, with all 3 of Their songwriters contributing to these throughout their years of production. Other bands have reached their level on occasion in quality, and in some genres have better tunes, but were nowhere near as prolific, Overall -It is not even closse

    Hey Jude was the longest song played on the radio. Up until Hey Jude no song was longer than three minutes. The Beatles broke that rule. I always say the Beatles are timeless. They broke rules, they pushed boundaries. I like other music as well, but the Beatles are my favourites.

    AND they made 3 movies and whatever Magical Mystery Tour is classified as, plus the Get Back Sessions/rooftop concert all in the same time span they were together. Not to mention Paul writing the whole score for another album, George writing/recording/releasing the music on the first solo album (Wonderwall) all in the time they were together. Not to mention songs they wrote and music they produced for other artists after forming their own record label. Not to mention all the songs they wrote during that period that they shelved and recorded later. And the music they performed and recorded for the BBC (lucky us). And that they later did an anthology. Who on earth has even come close to topping that?

    As the doco says the band continued to evolve but there were so many inputs in a Beatles tune. Their innate talent, musical influences, great harmonies, layering of the instruments, co-operation, experimentation, perseverance and George Martin's expertise. Mathematically that's a lot of possibilities and the Beatles kept honing a tune until they came up with the best outcome at the time.

      I don’t think Sgt. Pepper is over-rated. It was innovative and some of the songs are very good. It really caused other groups to up their game. But for sheer musical genius, Revolver is the better album.

    Reality check.
    The Beatles were a significant participant in a wave of change. They were commercially successful in their day. But their music was NOT the greatest music ever, their band members were NOT individually “the best” at anything.
    No disrespect here. Just eyes open honesty. The do have good music. They do have significant commercial success, but there are many other performers and groups of performers out there that had, or still have, more raw talent and ability, and that have built that talent with training and practice beyond any capability exhibited by the Beatles.
    I get the fan base won’t be able to hear this, but for those that can still exercise independent thought…just consider the facts.

    • @270yis7
      @270yis7 Год назад +3

      Not untrue, but not relevant either. If someone hypothetically played the greatest music ever, but nobody ever heard it, or only a very, very limited number of people ever heard it, then...did it matter in the greater scheme of things? Beyond the Beatles' innate musical abilities, the phenomenon lay in the fact that their music reached a global audience and influenced generations.

      From their beginning up to the end of 1970, The Beatles wrote about 255 songs. Over two dozen of these songs were given to other musical acts and the rest The Beatles recorded. John Lennon and Paul McCartney were not virtuoso musicians but they were genius SONG writers and they, along with George Harrison,, were innovative while most everyone else were merely replicative.
      Music is both objective and subjective and you don't have to personally like a song to appreciate other aspects of a song or musical composition. I personally do not like Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor (my wife does) but I sure do appreciate its complexity and the genius of Bach.
      I think the world's greatest guitarist is 42 year old Ana Vidovic but she confessed in an interview that she is basically not innovative but a reproducer. Watch "ANA VIDOVIC - Classical Guitar Concert | Concierto de Aranjuez, Capriccio Diabolico | Siccas Guitars"
      However, she can't even come up with something as simple as what McCartney came up with for "Blackbird".
