I live up in the mountains of WV. I live around 45 minutes away from the back of the dragon. I started on an R3 around 5 years ago, went to a 2020 R6, then a 2021 MT10, and now I have a 2023 R1. I love the bike but I live in technical heaven lol. We have a lot of roads you can open them up on and alot of roads that are twisty. I love this bike more than my R6. The R6 has a more aggressive sitting position stock, it isn't by a lot but there is a big enough difference. I've rode other liter bikes but this is my very first brand new liter bike. I use it to go everywhere and I have yet to get tired of riding it. I haven't rode further than a couple hundred miles though. I don't go on road trips on motorcycles at the moment anyway. I'll just trailer it to bike shows. What blows my mind is all the technology it has but doesn't have a fuel gauge lol.
R1’s are notorious for not always wanting to start on the first try. Especially if the ECU is flashed. You kinda need to just hold the starter longer than normal to get it going.
I wonder if this is a Yamaha quirk in general? I have an MT07 and ever since I had the ECU flashed it always takes an extra push of the starter for it to fire up. If you hold the switch the first time the starter will just go on and on and on without the engine turning over. But on the 2nd push it turns on perfectly.
@@ItzLobbyBobby possibly. Thinking about it, the problem could be more of a fuel pump issue as the starter is clearly working but the engine just hesitates to turn over. Don’t know why Yamaha has never addressed this in their machines (especially considering how much money they make across all their businesses)
@@ItzLobbyBobby nah, I have a tracer 900 and mt10, and they both start perfectly on first try. I think it just that some features in the ECU flash were removed, that might be missing for a smooth start-up.
@@ItzLobbyBobby my R1 doesn’t like starting after it’s warmed up. I believe it has to do with the cross plane crank. The way it fires one cylinder at a time I think makes it tougher. With normal I4’s you have 2 cylinders firing together

I’ve been riding 600’s since I passed my test 6 years ago. I’ve always wanted an R1 and it’s becoming more and more apparent that it’s just not a good bike for daily use. @@Ramot.o exactly. Tall bike and a wide seat as well. I use to own this bike when it came out in 2020 also in Raven until I traded it in for the K67. Very familiar with this bike
I never rode a cross-plane R1, it's on my bucket list. I have owned a 99' and a 07' R1. The 07 was a hot running bike. I bought both bikes new and they were stock. On a summer day, if I took I-95 into Philly for example, once I got into city streets the bike would run the coolant temp gauge high enough to trip the flashing red light and I would have to park the bike so it could cool down. The undertail exhaust also created a lot of heat around the seat. It was nice in the winter 😆
strictly for a city riding scenario, it really doesn't make sense to use a sportsbike. some may even argue that any 'big bike' , naked or sports, doesn't. a scooter is more than enough to get you around and complete your errands. it's easy to move around, light and small to weave in traffic, has space for your things, ridiculously low fuel consumption, and other benefits that really suits riding in the city.
Yeah I heard about the rumors of how uncomfortable this bike can be, and that's why I decided to just go with the mt-09 for better practicality. But the R1 would be awesome on the track and be much better on the highways as well.

It's a bummer how compromised the R1 is, in sake of performance. I really want a new 1000, but considering the GSXR1000 continues winning the MotoAmerica Stock 1000, costs the least, offers the most comfort and streetability and performs on par with machines costing double, it's kind of the no brainer. The R1 could only ever be a secondary toy for me, being 6'3. That crossplane is glorious though.

Have had every brand but aprilia kawasaki and mv agusta. Ive had a few nakeds too. Fz07 and superduke. Fz07 wasnt bad just wasnt very comfortable for me. Suspension was too soft imo. Absolutely hated the superduke. My point is, just depends on you. 95% of people say supersports are hella uncomfortable but they are the most comfortable for me. R1 is one of the most aggressive for sure. Think triumph is a little more agressive. Was between 22' RSV4 factory or the 23' R1. I picked the R1 due to reliability and the only aprilia dealer around me, id rather not deal with. 😂
I have that bike n bought it new and u have to get that bike flashed n tuned to get a good feel and a good ride out of that bike. Moore mafia ( Chris Moore ) flashed n tuned my bike plus I did some sprocket work and that bike FN flys. When flashed it takes that start off problem away. And the electronics on that bike is sick. But no one needs a bike that has that much power on the streets it’s super fast.
No point buying Superbikes any more when nakeds are making the same power but with more tq on the bottom and midrange. The only difference is Superbikes have the 190mph top speed.
I also used to think that the R 1 was the greatest ever but now I agree with your assertion and actually I expected them I would have been shocked if you had said it's a good street bike and that strange shifter? what's that all about? Never the less it is still among the coolest looking bikes ever.
My inner squid is sobbing in a corner after this review lol... but seriously I'm so glad I found this channel. Hopefully I can get a bike soon, I pass that bike shop from time to time so I might get to see you out there one day
So, I'd like to hear what the reliability is of the yamaha engines. I'd like to hear stories about blown but not abused yamaha engines and at what miles? Few and Far Between this century from what I hear. Suzy is fairly close I think.
Gets hot because they're designed to be ridden fast, you are obviously riding in the city so... You had to take it to a highway or tail of a dragon of something like that
OC: Totally understandable statement at the end Chase. It can be a chore to ride a fast bike slow in city traffic. The old saying more fun riding a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow will never be wrong. Even though I miss my Daytona 675R my back absolutely doesn't. My back loves my MT09 SP.
Just read up online there is a design flaw in the crank where the bearing gets spun easily. Sad considering Yamaha is considered the most reliable bike brand according to surveys
I am 6 foot but i only have a inseam of 78.5cm wich isn't even 31inch... When i first bought my R1 (RN49) in june/juli 2018 i always had to tiptoe it. Had to lower it slightly. 😅
Dude...the amount of people that complain about the heat on a race bike - STOP! "Race bike" doesn't equal comfort at 40 MPH - Panigale V4 in the traffic, hot AF, as this is - but I knew that and go highway in decent temps as much as possible. DO NOT get this bike if you only ride in downtown
Maybe ride in A mode like we all do. And why are you riding the outside of lane 2? How is the vehicle you’re approaching supposed to see you hiding riding the outside lane?? Seeing that kills me this is why we have so many motorcycle deaths. Note to everyone make yourself known and visible to vehicles stay alive.
The thing about this first ride is chase is a lot older than he used to be. He’s been riding majority of his life so he’s already sore and has a bad back. And 35 year olds are not who this bike is marking for.
OC At one point I wanted a super sport because it’s cool. Now I want a sport touring bike like the ninja 1000. Something that looks the part, but is comfortable and usable on the road. That said, I have yet to buy a bike because I’m terrible at managing finances.
The s1k is the best supersport you can buy it does everything amazingly. The cbr is incredibly underrated, cbrs handle like a dream and are just as fast as anything. The s1k will be the most comfortable though.

@@Gma7788 i started on a 600cc for a couple years and was going to do a little upgrade but got convinced to get a liter so i did, really enjoyed it, used it thats for sure bc the town i use to live in had plenty of twistys but moved back to my small hometown which is just straight flat roads and road tripping for an hour to get to the twistys wasn't worth keeping it.
Supposedly it’s an emission thing with the throttle. Values are switched in the factory tune for hand throttle position vs throttle plate.
I feel like anyone who says they are uncomfortable on a sportbike just isn't meant for them. I've had dirtbikes many sportbikes. 23' R1 and 15' Daytona 675 currently. 😂
You're right, I liked the ad.
I need to pay my current bike off so I can start saving for an R1 🤣. Love the blue look
I had one of these. I want another one. Back on a 600 rn
Video starts at 6:24
Need you in every vid
Thank you!
No point buying Superbikes any more when nakeds are making the same power but with more tq on the bottom and midrange. The only difference is Superbikes have the 190mph top speed.
Yup. For me and the street riding I do I sold my 2013 R6 for a 2018 MT09 and I have no regrets. The torque is insane
Sport bikes has better wind protection
turns at high speeds
Crash test goat has no problem everyday going into Houston to work and going out every night on rides different strokes for different folks I guess
I also used to think that the R 1 was the greatest ever but now I agree with your assertion and actually I expected them I would have been shocked if you had said it's a good street bike and that strange shifter? what's that all about? Never the less it is still among the coolest looking bikes ever.
13:57 A-Mode, Nannie’s off! The R1 is for folks who want to larp as a nasa rocket to the freakin moon!
I only ride in A-mode unless....I get caught in rain.
Suzy is fairly close I think.
chase looking forward for your yamaha xsr 700 2022 first ride
Thats "leaned over"??? :o ive been doing it all wrong
Gets hot because they're designed to be ridden fast, you are obviously riding in the city so... You had to take it to a highway or tail of a dragon of something like that
I want that 950 SuperSport the roswell location has rn. Such a gorgeous machine.
I absolutely hate the look of that bike, so close to a Panigale yet so far, especially that windscreens
Can't understand what's the point of the R1M when the weight of both bikes is the same.
Ohlins suspension and carbon pieces
That r1 looks sexy in black rawr!
Also outro crew represent

OC: Totally understandable statement at the end Chase. It can be a chore to ride a fast bike slow in city traffic. The old saying more fun riding a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow will never be wrong. Even though I miss my Daytona 675R my back absolutely doesn't. My back loves my MT09 SP.
OEM battery is trash. Needs Lithium to start right. My 2017 was the same way. Switched to Lithium and it starts almost immediately
would love to have u and the zoo crew here in my box fer MotoGP Austin some year - Great review as always
Big Question with R1 is Tuned or Un Tuned. There is like 20+ HP to be gained. Only 70% throttle at max RPM.
10k miles + brand new engine? What the hell is going on here?
More than likely oil starvation
GP Money shift
Just read up online there is a design flaw in the crank where the bearing gets spun easily. Sad considering Yamaha is considered the most reliable bike brand according to surveys
Dude that intro rev. was funny as hell.
Lol...you seemed to be straight up during the leaned over comment. It's a Supersport, as any other Supersport it is a specific built bike.
I am 6 foot but i only have a inseam of 78.5cm wich isn't even 31inch...
When i first bought my R1 (RN49) in june/juli 2018 i always had to tiptoe it.
Had to lower it slightly. 😅
wooo chase is back respect
Can you review the Triumph tiger 1200❓️.
Why did it need a new engine after only 10k miles?
daily my r1 and my zx10 in hawaii for the past 4 years easy
What editing software do you use?! This is so good
OC: Pour one out for Chase's spine
Some say he's still recovering from this ride...
@@chaseontwowheels I'm sure your chiropractor loves you 😂
OC: You sound like me after riding 3.5 hours up to Tail of the Dragon, making 4 runs, then riding home, and that was on a Ryker. Lol
Yeah yamaha and gsxr 1k lost me w no cruise control.
I haven't watched you long enough to know.. what is your favorite type/or bike to ride?
Yeah and not for 200 bucks. When Amazon has cheaper products. Cool idea and design but that price tag is crazy.
OC: Love those pulls on Money Shift Parkway. Still wondering why it needed an engine refresh after 10K??? Yep. lol
Are you going to test the new ducati panigale v4s?
why'd they have to change its eye??????? i loved those straight drl
If u wanna have fun on r1 do this
- straight pipe + ecu
- no plate
-dont stop for police
In the sound check section it was definitely only running on 3 cylinders lol
"This should get really interesting" which means you only go 75
The thing about this first ride is chase is a lot older than he used to be. He’s been riding majority of his life so he’s already sore and has a bad back. And 35 year olds are not who this bike is marking for.
Do u know what the problem bike ztayes in garage 6 months aand dosent start but if i start in 2 gear anddrive down the hill then it starts? Bad fuel?
Anyone else notice he said 20% off in the speed sanctum stand add but the on screen writing said $20 off?
Yea that was a whoops on our end. The code gets ya $20 off.
I love the looks of it.
I ride a Speed Triple RR and I don't feel as lean over as I am on a R1. Weird 😕
May be you are a tall guy, with a long spine.
@@VinayKumar-db4qz I'm actually 5'7 with a short torso.
i'm trying to imagine a linebacker size frame on one of those crotch rockets.
Would u be so kind to ride the honda cb1100 ex,not alot of reviews on that bike
Intro (can I be part of the Intro Crew now?): Does my history with my R6 come back? You mean, will it get stolen? Probably not during the first ride.
OC At one point I wanted a super sport because it’s cool. Now I want a sport touring bike like the ninja 1000. Something that looks the part, but is comfortable and usable on the road. That said, I have yet to buy a bike because I’m terrible at managing finances.
Speed sanctum for $180 each?…not unless they’re 75% off!
wait theres no way you can flat foot the 2021 r1 with being 5'10 and a 32 inch inseam. the seat height is 855mm. how? is this specific r1 lowered?
It is
Chase...seriously....how are you actually pacing an Acura SUV on the off-ramp??? lol - I get it - stay in the speed limit but common speed bro!!! 😆
I agree the R1 is not good for Inter city , grid use ! Too Hot !
Pitbull’s Suit Rack doesn’t even cost that Much, and there shit is FanBased Expensive. Lol You could buy Yamaha’s Personal GP Rack for 200$ lol
R1 or 10r ? Which is easier to ride for newbie ?
They just abt the same but r1 for sound and zx10 for like value? Idk
R1 a super sport?
Yes
this bike or the cbr, s1k for comfortable, smooth ride and reliability?
Cbr for bang for buck. R1 is 1500$ more. Cbr might be “slower” but I owned one and it’s disgustingly fast. No one needs that much power on the street.
The s1k is the best supersport you can buy it does everything amazingly. The cbr is incredibly underrated, cbrs handle like a dream and are just as fast as anything. The s1k will be the most comfortable though.
that is a monster. should not be street legal in a sense hahaha damn i want one
