Over the last two weeks, I heeded Jamie's recommendation of Anciients' Beyond the Reach of the Sun and Pete's recommendation of Sundrifter's An Earlier Time. The former is like a cross between Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, and Mastodon. Solid progressive extreme metal. The latter is a cool mix of space and stoner rock; I also listened to Sundrifter's debut album, Visitations, before checking out the new one. Also quite badass!
There are a couple more that I listened to over the last couple of weeks that I really love....
    Nada Surf - Moon Mirror
The latest from this New York City alternative rock/power pop band who admittedly kind of a one-hit wonder with their '90s single "Popular." Their debut High/Low has been a huge go-to of mine for the last 28 years. I just now started listening to their subsequent albums. And this is probably their third best after High/Low and their sophomore album The Proximity Effect.
Kurokuma - Of Amber and Sand
I literally just found out about this one about an hour ago, as I just read the review on it in the latest issue of Metal Hammer. I decided to check it out, because I loved their debut album Born of Obsidian, which was one of my favorites from 2022. And yeah, upon first listen, I already really love this one too. This is a band that mix stoner rock, doom metal, groove metal, and world music - kind of like a cross between Sepultura, Soulfly, and High on Fire - and the vocals sound kind of like Max Cavalera and Matt Pike, too. Hell, if Peter Gabriel ever wants to sign a metal band to his Real World imprint, these guys would be the perfect candidates!

Lucky to live where I live, as I was at the High Parasite launch show last night in Bradford, and if I hadn't been at that show I would have seen Old Horn Tooth in Manchester.
I've seen Old Horn Tooth a couple of times (most recently in June) and I'll be there again before the end of the year.
High Parasite played 13 songs (the whole album plus 3 as yet unreleased songs). Very dance, reminded me of mid period Mortiis, more than Sisters of Mercy.

Hi Jamie and Review Crew, you wanna push smaller bands, give them the recognition they deserve. It would be good if you could go back and give the bands from Australia that sent The Review Crew their music and give their Albums a proper review, boomerang included.

I gave Masters of Your Mind a pretty good extensive review. I even did a giveaway and used my own money to mail copies out to a few viewers...including one person in Germany. People then posted their copies on my Let's Get Physical page when they received them. So I thought I did a pretty good job of getting the word out.

@@Jamie.Laszlo Hi Jamie, thanks for reply and also for promoting the albums that were sent. Would of loved to see the Taipan Stonewitch cd get a school board report as you do. Your way of reviewing is one of the cool ideas to express an overview of the artist and music. The Review Crew is an essential show and your doing a great job and is very much appreciated. Taipan and Masters have new releases for next year so will look forward to sending a few copies next time.

It's honestly kind of suspicious how Jamie knows all these questionable bands like Crazy Town and the rest of that late-'90s/early-2000s cringe playlist. Like, who else would have that much random trivia about bands we all try to forget existed? At this point, I'm half-convinced Jamie secretly runs a fan club for every one-hit-wonder group that ever made it onto MTV back in the day!

Great show lady and gents! You've all given me some things to investigate. Jamie, love the Miles Davis Files De Kilimanjaro shirt! When you excused yourself to get a "f**king beer", RUclips went to a commercial. It was perfect! Unto Others sounds like it might be up my alley. Old Horn Tooth sounds like they me a bit too slow for me. I agree that Seger's Live Bullet is one of the all time great live albums.
Rick, I will check out the new Dead Daisies. I have Holy Ground and it's quite good.
Karen, speaking as someone who's contributed on this show and elsewhere on SOT, it's often difficult not to compare the band you're talking about to another, especially if they are not well known. It does give people a jumping on point. I really like Kadavar, so I will check out Free Ride, as well as Cobranoid.
Nick, generally I'm not a big death metal guy, but if the death growls alternate with some decent clean vocals and the musicianship is good, I will give it a chance. I will give High Parasite a listen.

Listened to Castle Rat's debut Into the Realm this week. Thanks, Jamie for the shorts video on this. Concise album (32 minutes), excellent straight up (not ethereal) psychedelic female vocals. Classic, Sabbathy doom. Great for fall listening.
Also checked out Weather Systems debut Ocean Without a Shore. Daniel Cavanagh picks up the pieces and leads a new Anathema sounding band. Album is cut from the same cloth as other latter day Anathema albums. Anathema's Weather Systems is probably my favorite new "old" album this year.

Goth, doom, stoner, black, and most pure death is f'ing garbage. I will never understand why so many metalheads like such boring music.
