  • Transit workers are on the front lines as they move around New York City.
    They never know what they will have to deal with during their shift, and assaults are a real concern.

      It’s been a thing for the longest here in NYC. I remember almost 30 years ago when a passenger had a tussle with a bus operator for not moving the bus. The bus operator was early and was keeping to schedule. The passenger stabbed the bus operator. The bus operator fought the passenger and stabbed the passenger back. The passenger died from the stab wound. The second one was over getting a transfer after the passenger requested a free ride. The bus operator declined as per policy and the passenger stabbed and killed the bus operator. So these partitions are long overdue

    The first time I saw the current partition was depressing enough. Depressing that things have gotten so bad that drivers need that to do their jobs. Now they have even more of a partition. Next they’ll arm it with lasers to clap back at unruly passengers.

    I have seen some of the comments and you really do not know what happens to MTA workers in the NY subway systems and buses. It took so long for them to get the minimum protection now its more and I am happy for them. Some people have been stabbed, shot, spit on, have hot drinks thrown on them because patrons can reach around the partition. My prayers is no one has a heart attack or pass out and if this happens there is a way to get in to stop the bus. The bus operators are safer now. Thats what matters and if people are caught assaulting a MTA worker its suppose to be 7yrs in prison. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

    Hearing this, I see why people should pay to ride. It’s a penalty. I have now seen the light. But what happens when someone spray paints all over it or something? It’s going to destruct his view on his right side.

    This should have happened years ago.. the trains should also be protected like Dubai..doors on the platforms linked to the train doors..they close when there's no train
    .once the train arrives they open and close at the same time with the train doors. This prevents people from falling onto the tracks.

      They've had them in taxicabs for decades, so I agree with you. This leads to another problem I have with the downsizing of taxicabs. Between the drivers, the partitions and the passengers, they don't provide enough room.

    Charging violent attackers with a FELONY charge is not doing a thing when police are not arresting attackers,when these crimes are not reported and when the police and news media do not give descriptions of attackers with race,hieght,clothing,time of day and location where the incident occured. This mta driver is funny looking for more protections when the law protects you more than any other citizen already because tour a government worker.

    As a New Yorker. I can tell you, A lot of NYC bus drivers are extremely nasty to the public. This isn't a one sided situation.

    • @surfntrucks
      @surfntrucks 10 месяцев назад

      I'll side with the bus drivers because the public is extremely nasty to the public. The bus drivers are on a schedule that's stressful to maintain because so many things on the road are out of their control. Then passengers tend to make things about themselves instead of the other passengers on the bus. It's weird and I'll never understand the voluntary negative culture but New Yorkers are the worst citizens in the country. I know from experience, it's just bad. I'm not apologizing for how I feel. Too many New Yorkers are getting hurt or worse by other New Yorkers and only protesting when it's white or law enforcement. So I'm siding with the bus driver. Soon each passenger seat will need protective bullet proof boxes.
