VN24 - Major fire at car recycling plant in Unna - high rack collapses

VN24 - 16-06-2024 (D/M/Y) - Unna / Germany - The Unna fire department was alerted to a fire on the premises of a car parts recycling company on Morgenstraße in the eastern part of Unna city center at around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. When the first firefighters arrived, they could already see a massive amount of smoke. Two high racks on the company's outdoor premises were on fire and had collapsed as a result. The racks were mainly used to store car doors and hoods prepared for sale. Due to the massive smoke development, a corresponding warning of smoke gases was issued as a precaution for the area of the eastern city center via the warning app NINA. Parts of the adjacent Bundesstraße 1 with the access road to Morgenstraße were temporarily closed for the extinguishing measures. Several firefighting attacks, including the use of the turntable ladder from the Unna fire department and the turntable ladder from the Holzwickede fire department, succeeded in keeping the fire under control at around 1 p.m. so that it could not spread any further.
