- The Dames first public rendtition of the bond theme moonraker. The song was meant for Johnny Mathis and Shirley was asked to record it when he couldn't. As she said she "never ever sang it live onstage until now because I felt it was not my song"

Dame Shirley is one of the greatest singers of our time. People are so used to below par singing nowadays that they don't recognize greatness when they hear it. Thank god some of us still know a good thing when we hear it. I love you Shirley! =)

Moonraker's theme song is my personal favorite Bond song. Shirley Bassey's performance was gorgeous! Shame that this brilliant movie was so underrated!

I agree. "Moonraker" was my favorite Bond song, too bad the score is so short. There was a lot of great pieces composed by John Barry in the movie, but sadly never made it to CD.

Funny. I had ordered the MOONRAKER soundtrack and it arrived in the mail today. I already had the single by Shirley on a Bond compilation.
She's the queen of music.
Great! I know Bond must go on and follow time, but, I think it is time to take some of that ol`classy calm Barry stuff, maybe bring some of that into the film as well. I saw the newest Bond-sets are a homage to Ken Adam! I went to london and to an art exibition, and a lady at the gallery told me she met him, bechause he had an exibition there. So I bought a book of him straight away! Great, just great! :) :)

I know Goldfinger is her most famous Bond theme but to me Moonraker
is a much better song and is her best in my opinion.
I have to agree. I think Moonraker is a very beautiful song and is overshadowed by the anthemic Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever. It's a real shame that Shirley Bassey never really liked the song and rarely performs it live.

the moonraker song has a prominent triangle part. And like the cowbell, there just aren't many songs that call for a lot of triangle.

Actually, she sings a medley of all 3 Bond themes she covered for the movies. Makes me wish for the old days of Bond music. With the exception of Tina Turner and Chris Cornell, the Bond music has been pretty weak lately. Wish the rumours of Genesis or The Killers doing a song had been true

"Moonraker" was a rip off of a little known Z movie called "Kiss the Girls and Make Them Die".
Well, they both have 3 syllables. You could also substitute "fishmonger," "Joe Plumber," "Joe Namath," "spotmaker," "zit popper" or "Obama." On the other hand, there are other three-syllable words or phrases that wouldn't work because of the emphasis in the song on the second syllable -- "prostitute," "imbecile," "Hillary" or "John McCain," for example.
