I always played as the Greeks, if you approach from the north, there is a bridge just north of Rome, if you can lure out the spqr, you can funnel their troops into the bridge. And hence right into my hoplite spears.... they were massacred.....

If you'd clicked on the message in the bottom left, it would (probably) have said, "One of the armies has been delayed." You then got an audio message saying they'd turned up. Their appearance really shouldn't have been a surprise!

No because you betrayed rome but your supposed to because in the beginning when the leader is telling his story he wants to betray rome and wants the other roman families gone

there is a bug that allows rebels to swap 'culture' and switch from the rebel to a regular faction.
it does mess with the save file and eventually cause a crash to desktop tho ...
