There are icons of Saint John Chrysostom with Saint Paul whispering in his ear. It is said that Saint Chrysostom would pray to God to illuminate the truth of His word. One day he started to hear the voice of Saint Paul explaining the intricacies of the bible. This is why Chrysostom's word holds so much weight in the Orthodox world.
In my language he has an other nickname "the Golden Mouth" John the Golden Mouth.
That story can be found in the Prologue of Ohrid, compiled by ST. NICHOLAI VELIMIROVICH.
It seems that there was a man in Constantinople whom the Emperor had gotten upset with, wrongly.
One night, he went to talk to St. John to ask for his help. St. John was in his study, and the man who was there to greet visitors (i don't remember much about him, but he was a great friend), went to ST.JOHN'S door and gently opened it to tell him he had a visitor, only to see that there was someone in the room with St. John, who was bending over him and speaking into his ear, as St. John was seriously absorbed in what he was writing.
The man had no idea how the visitor could have entered, since he was in charge of the door. He didn't interrupt St. John, and he told the one who had come for help, that he must wait until the other visitor had left. The man stayed there all night. The door never opened.
He went back the next night. Same thing. And a third night..
Same thing. On the following morning, St. John mentioned to his friend that he had thought the one seeking his help would have come by, since several days earlier he had sent a message to St. John requesting to see him..
The doorman told him that the man had come and stayed there 3 nights, but that St. John had had a visitor. St. John said there had been no one with him..
Asked the doorman what the visitor had looked like, and the man pointed to an icon of St. Paul, who had been helping St. John understand what St. Paul, himself, had written. ☦💝☦
And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. -Jeremiah 29:13
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. - John 3:16
Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.
- Acts 3:19

Praise God for Saint John Chrysostom
Excellent. A favorite quote from St. John to his beloved disciple St. Olympia:
"Therefore, do not be cast down, I beseech you. For there is only one thing, Olympia, to fear, only one real temptation, and that is sin. This is the refrain that I keep chanting to you ceaselessly. For everything else is ultimately a fable - whether you speak of plots, or enmities, or deceptions, or slanders, or abuses, or accusations, or confiscations, or banishments, or sharpened swords, or high seas, or war engulfing the entire world. Whichever of these you point to, they are transitory and perishable, and they only affect mortal bodies; they cannot in any way injure the watchful soul. This is why, wishing to express the paltriness of both the good and the bad things of this present life, the blessed Paul stated the matter in one phrase, saying, 'For the things that are seen are transient' (2 Cor. 4:18). So why are you fearing temporal things, which flow past like rivers streams? For this is the nature of present things, whether they be pleasant or painful.”

Has anyone else noticed Orthodoxy dominating online Christian culture?
the cream is rising to the top
Online Christian culture sucks
Thanks so much for this video and all your hard work on the channel. As a Christian, but non-Orthodox, the videos are really accessible for beginners. I really appreciate the gentle tone and consideration towards Christians from other denominations. I'll be tuning in again!

Holy Hierarch John, pray to God for us!
Mark of Ephesus and the Pillars would be timely and interesting. I believe I read that in inspecting icons for their Byzantine Church,?the Pope pointed to the icon and said it could be used but NOT venerated!
St. John Chrysostom, I am impressed by Your Story, by Your life, by Your Love for Jesus! I too am constantly being rejected and rebuked by those who should be taking care of me like a Shepard!
Please pray for me so that I will not be dishearted! Amen!

My Patron Saint ❤❤
“ Saint John Chrysostom, the famous Bishop of Constantinople, ascribed the origin of enslavement to the insatiable greed of man and insisted upon Paul's view that in the Church the social distinction of free and slave did not exist…”
He lived at the start of the Millenial kingdom as Jesus said repeatedly in the gospels and of course he is still here in the holy city
According to tradition one night when Saint John was writing a commentary on the epistles of Saint Paul alone in his cell, Saint Proclus, his attendant, saw a man whispering in his ear. Saint Proclus asked him later who that man was. Saint John answered that no one was with him. Then Saint Proclus glanced at an icon of Saint Paul and exclaimed, “The man whom I saw resembled in every way the saint depicted upon this icon!”.
Saint John’s ear in which St. Paul spoke to him is still incorrupt to this day, and is visible on his Sacred Head, treasured by Vatopaidi Monastery on Mount Athos
I do not doubt you, but could you link an article please? I would love to read about this!!
Thanks you for making these videos, every single one is such a blessing to me and I often share them with friends. God bless you Stephan, Andrew and Eshy!
Wow. Truly appreciate this video.
St Chrysostomos- The Golden- Mouth, is undoubtedly, in the escholon of servants of God, one of the most reverend and loved saints.
My heart is brought to tears hearing of him, and attending his Liturgy each Sunday.
Glory to Thee Oh God!

Good vid, but music is too loud.

I need to ask you a question. I am a Catholic who is very interested in orthodox. This is going to sound trivial but here goes. I am an ex karate champion and now older have had two knee surgery operations. There is no way that I will be able to stand for two hours ( can anybody?) and I dont want to be given a seat whilst everyone else is standing. WHAT IS THIS ABOUT? why make the congregation suffer and be distracted by pain, unable to concentrate on the liturgy? why? it smacks of the crawling on knees extremes I've seen in shrines in other religions. Dont we suffer enough? why does the the orthodox church do this piety and pain thing. God does not want us in pain.... does he?
You will dismiss this as someone not willing to bow down or some other judgment. Its nothing of the sort it just seems bizarre, that when you are supposed to be worshipping the Lord you are in agony and trying with all your might to stay upright
The Liturgy is not meant to cause you pain, and there are seats for that purpose. We can not assume how others approach the liturgy, and if seats are going to help you, then do feel free to use them. Russian Orthodox churches will mostly not have seats except on the edges, Greek and Antiochian Orthodox will mostly have seats. As to why we stand so much: it’s not about feeling pain. After 2,000 years, most Orthodox are just really used to it and don’t feel pain. Those that do, sit.
@@Patristix Thank you but nobody can stand for two hours and not feel pain. I have been on Catholic retreats that had people who are consumed with scrupulocity and status that they were on their knees which were bleeding onto the floor, not for me.
Sad that this will chase people away isnt it? I have discussed this with others like me and its the same for them.NOT WELCOMING of the good news is it?..any way god bless Im off
Please feel free to sit. Chat with a priest, it'll help. God bless!
Great video!
I have another Orthodox question (I hope you know you don’t have to answer them haha)- Why do some of your men have long hair & long beards?
Thanks as always!
It’s a monastic rule that sort of caught on as a pious tradition among non-monastics.
Monks don’t cut their hair or beards, or do so very minimally; that practice goes all the way back to the Nazarite vows in the Old Testament.
Thank you for your answer!
I figured it had something to do with the Old Testament Nazarite vow, when they would grow their hair during the duration of the vow.
But they also had to abstain from wine during the Nazarite vow. I’m assuming that the Orthodox tradition of men growing out their hair doesn’t also mean that they abstain from wine, because that would mean they couldn’t take communion?
But I suppose that just because they grow out their hair doesn’t mean that they have taken the Nazarite vow!
Out of curiosity, how long has this been an Orthodox tradition?
Thanks again!
@@MrBJYates yes it’s not exactly the same thing, although if a monk is under a rule not to drink wine (even laypeople fast from wine on certain days) that would not apply to receiving the Eucharist.
I believe the tradition goes back to the beginning since Christian monasticism really comes straight out of Jewish monasticism. In a sense St. John the Forerunner (Baptist) is the first Christian monk.
Thanks again for the reply-so helpful!
Lutheran's owe a lot too.and as Lutheran Orthodoxy always a empty plate..at the table..for those held dear to my heart and couldN't make dinner..
Thank God for St John. The Church more Bishops like St Join today.
St. John Chrysostom pray for us ! We also venerate his memory in the Catholic Church.
I'm a convert to orthodoxy and he is my beloved patron saint. My spiritual father, archimandrite Demetrios, chose him for my baptism. Saint John has been a great guide for my life in the church of Christ, truly his his intercession is with us and his golden mouth illuminates the world with heavenly wisdom.
May our father Saint John Chrysostom send us a portion of his divine knowledge and pray unceasingly to the Lord, our great God and Savior Jesus Christ for the salvation of our souls. ☦️
There is only one truth and it is that Christ is Lord! I am currently reading Saint John Chrysostom's story in the Golden Legend (I couldn't wait until the 27th because you released an episode on him and I wanted to get to know him beforehand). I would also like to say that everytime I eat tuna for dinner (which is most days of the week), I season it with dill, curry and... turmeric! Such a joy! Now, I will have a thought for John most every dinner! Glory to God for all things! Blessings!
Thank you for the information on this church father
I like the idea of a "let's sit and have a conversation" style of presentation. I'd like to see interviews or fellow commentating done like this too.
This was a great video. Thank you for your lessons in the early fathers of the church. It made me curious to learn more
I look forward to Easter just to hear that beautiful sermon.

Love from Ethiopia
My family and I are new to orthodoxy, having been chrismated April last year. We love this channel and watch as a family regularly. Our priest often refers parishioners to the channel. All this to say or request Patriatix to please consider lowering the volume of the accompanying music. It’s very distracting and interferes our hearing of the lovely lessons. Please, please consider us who struggle with processing more than one source of sound. We don’t want to miss any of the instruction. Lord bless.
Noted! It's a tricky balance and some episodes we get it better than others. Glad to hear your priest approves of the content though!
