Respected Sir, I Am professor DR. M. Sathish from cuddalore I wish and congratulations to this video it's very useful to students society. Very nice job God bless you more thank you.
One more way to understand the difference is: e.m.f is the potential a battery should supply (value written on the battery) But if we connect voltmeter across the device we get little less value that is potential difference.(the actual potential it supply) The difference is potential drop and reason is internal resistance.
EMF is created by chemical action inside the cell and that chemical energy (exothermic redox reaction) maintains the potential difference across the two terminal and this difference when connected cause electric current flow .
I could understand the difference between these even after being taught by teacher for 20 mins and asking getting the questions answered for almost 10 mins, but after watching this video i have understood the difference between EMF and Potential Difference.
amazingggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggv bro its been 5 yrs that i cant understood that thing but today i got the point thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu MAY ALLH GIVE YOU HAPPINESS MORE THAN YOU DESERVE
I face difficulty in understanding electrical stuff, but i understood your video, so nicely, that can i now explain to others if needed with much confidence. Thank you sir.
Why does physics confuse with terminology so often? i.e. Electromotive Force is NOT a FORCE......it is an energy source. THANK YOU for clarifying this. The other "classic' confusion is (conventional) "current" vs electron flow!
Thank you for this film. It is the second time an indian teacher impress me. Exactly what i needed to learn, now. I listened to american, brit, australian... It was only the indian teachers that were precise and correct in their terminology. India must be an educational superpower. Your english sounds funny, but , you are simply the best teachers.
Now, I understood. EMF vo potential hai jo battery lagati hei jisse electron aage khiske. I think this mechanics analogy can work . Assume a very rough surface and you want to roll down a ball with mass M acceleration Â. Then initially you have to apply a force F* to roll down the ball. The ball rolls with  .and multiply M and  you get force on ball M which of course less than F*. The relation would be F* = M + Friction In circuit, EMF plays the same role as F*, voltage as M and friction would be current multiply (internal resistance)
Your way of explaining is excellent. Everyone will understand the difference between potential difference and emf. People many a times assume it to be same.
Thanks for your nice video and effective video❤ I've been looking and reading many books but I got all of the concept that I needed by watching this video😊
While I do agree with the emf being the entity that maintains the potential difference, I would not say that the potential difference is what causes electrons to flow. The emf is responsible for both the current flow in AND the potential difference across the elements of the circuit. Voltage and current are the two simultaneous faces of the same coin: power transfer. In fact you could not have different levels in the two containers without having more water poured into one of them to begin with (so, what causes what?) The difference in levels requires a water flow to be maintained - it is not the cause of itself. The water flow is caused by the energy imparted by the pump, just like the difference in levels.
I don't get one thing though, how can any electron, as he said, lose "all of its energy" by the time it comes back to the source? Wouldn't losing "all" energy also mean it would stop moving?
Where were you sir? Seriously you slapped every teacher who doesn't know how to explain. Potential makes flow while emf maintains potential. This line should be added in books especially NCERT. Love u sir
Howdy. EMF is the small angry man inside a battery who throws electrons to the minus pole and positive ions to the plus pole. The EMF arrow should be drawn inside the battery symbol from minus to plus. The voltage arrow should be drawn outside the battery from plus to minus. The EMF arrow indicates the direction of current inside the battery and voltage arrow the direction of load current. Assuming, of course we use the convention that the load current flows from plus to minus. Or to say it in more scientific terms, from a higher potential to a lower potential. A higher potential is "more plus" and a lower potential is "less plus" in English. Minus is regarded as a very low potential. Regards.

Yr introduction was good.

Which college professor
One more way to understand the difference is:

But if we connect voltmeter across the device we get little less value that is potential difference.(the actual potential it supply)
The difference is potential drop and reason is internal resistance.
Voltage makes electrons to flow while EMF maintains Voltage 👏👏👏 nailed it
A 120 volt zener does not make any current flow.
No.. Both maintain the same.. The same voltage at generator terminal is called as emf
What's terminal potential differece
EMF is created by chemical action inside the cell and that chemical energy (exothermic redox reaction) maintains the potential difference across the two terminal and this difference when connected cause electric current flow .
Right bro
I am a professor. "emf is required to maintain potential difference" - excellant
I am not a professor. But I still agree with you in that, EMF is required to maintain potential difference or voltage. Thank you. 😊

Bhaiya nice explanation. I am preparing for advanced 2020 and I am thinking of choosing EEE. I came upon your video today and got inspired by it.
