    So, put the bud union 2 inches below ground level but don't cover it? That doesn't make sense to me. Won't runoff eventually cover it anyway if it's below ground level? Is that the point? Need more info on contradictory statements.

    I'm just starting out with roses - I'm a little confused you start off saying to plant the bud union about 2 inches below the soil line and then backfill and then you say make sure not cover the bud union.

      I would agree, it definitely sounds confusing! You actually want to make a funnel almost, keeping the the crown uncovered. It will appear the rose is in a funnel-shaped depression.

      Yes, you can even grow roses in pots if the pot is big enough...
