Thank you. My son who passed in 1985 was at the age of 14 chosen by the Master Jim Ott to play the Contra because one contra player didn’t show up. My Ted went and Jim saw something so that 14 year old was in the 1980 season.. I’m 87 now and thank you for the memories and the wonderful music. Wish I could get those days back. The everlasting memory was when I got the call that the Master Jim passed. Well maybe his 14 year old will be able to tell him Thank You for the greatest experience
In my opinion, Spirit's best year in their history. I remember the night that they beat us (SCV) at Mile High Stadium at Drums Along the Rockies. The crowd pounded their feet on the stadium floor so loud when SCV was announced in 2nd, that from the field, it sounded like the stadium was going to collapse. It was hard to swallow that the Vanguard was no longer America's sweetheart.
Back then, there was first tour and second tour. In between (usually early/mid July), many corps (including Spirit) would head back to their hometowns and do some heavy duty rehearsing, make show adjustments, and get some rest from the travel.
@LadyMystral 1980? I don't think so. I know it wasn't. It was 1979. That was the year I marched. And I am in the video. I know the music like it is a wart on my hand.

I've experienced the crowd pound at Mile High. Happened for us in '84 (PR)
