I loved your cousin on Barney Miller, his role as Det Harris was amazing. One of the funniest scenes from any TV sitcom was when someone gave the department brownies with hash in it. Harris told Barney that he thought the brownies had hash in them and Barney told him to have them tested. To which Harris happily took a big bite of a brownie and Barney yells “not that way”. I love the grin on Ron’s face as he says “yep, there is hash in them”. I was a bit shocked when I saw him playing a character on a sci-fi show like Firefly, I wasn’t sure how he would do outside of comedy. But after the first episode, I knew he would be great. After watching the entire season and then the movie, I don’t think anyone could have done a better job. He was made for the role.
I came here looking for Shepard Book's 'Serenity' quote regarding the Alliance. "They'll come at you sideways!". As it applies to the new Jurassic World film. I was not aware of Ron Glass having passed away. I grew with and loved Barney Miller. R.I.P. sir...
Ron Glass is an amazing actor. Sheppard Book is, in my opinion, his greatest role. Book was always a good moral anchor to a grey crew. Bent enough of his beliefs to allow them to do their jobs with little scrutiny but always wanting them to do the right thing in the moment they could spare to do so... I don't know if anyone else could have pulled it off, but after watching Ron play the role, I don't think anyone else should try. RIP Ron, may you have found true Serenity.
That is mostly because Book was trying to atone for his own misdeeds from his time in the Alliance as an operative. He knew more than anyone just how dark the world could be and tried his best to ensure others did not fall to that same darkness that he knew so well.
Let's just say he didn't have a great many scenes to shine in, but when he had any, wow, you remembered them! I am a hardened atheist, but damn, if one person in the verse could have brought back this run away sheep to the flock, it would have been him.
@@malcolmreynolds7247 Fairly sure it was confirmed in either the TV series or by the writers after it was cancelled. It's been so long now that I can't remember the exact source but that was what the movie was referring too.
Ron Glass... he... he passed? I didn't even know. I loved Firefly. Considered myself a good fan. Loved his character and all the crew all interacted with each other. Have the hardcover "Shepherd's Tale" hard-cover graphic novel and I always loved how he described finding faith in a bowl of soup. The novel answered that in such a wonderful way. I loved all the crew and how they interacted with each other. Memorable quotes from other characters too. It beame something else. And I think I know why. The destination wasn't the point. The journey was. Enabling "Crew".. slowly to become.. "Family". Still.. doesn't make me much of a fan if I didn't know he was gone. These tears welling up in my eyes over a beloved character. I guess I wasn't as much of a fan. But still.. thank you Ron Glass. Thank you.. Shepherd. I would have been honored to be a part of your flock.
Naaaah man, that doesn't mean you weren't a big enough fan, just means you weren't checking Twitter enough back in 2016. Trust me, PLENTY of shit's happened these past few years, nobody blames you for missing this.
@@renzorro2001 Thanks for those kind words. I really was feeling bad. He was such a good actor and I loved his work. He'll be missed. Rest in Peace. Maybe I'll see ya in the 'verse again someday soon when its my turn.
"Gonna have to tell me about that sometime." "No. I don't." I can't believe I forgot that line. They teased bits and pieces about this shady past life and on more than one occasion they even said this same line in one way or another. I love that, in the end, he valued the one he chose with these friends. And stuck to it.
@@kissofshadows21 Yeah. There’s a vid on RUclips that goes over it if you really want to know, but to me I think the mystique really made his character feel so much more interesting than the canonical backstory did.
He also helped set up one of Inara's best lines: "Why are you so fascinated by him?" "Because he's something of a mystery. Why are you?" "Because so few men are."

Much Love! Sorry for your loss. He was a super good actor! Ron Glass was amazing! No remake! It wouldn't be the same without him!

Loved him since Barney Miller through Firefly and Serenity. He always seemed so fun and happy. We will miss him!

Best Character on a show full of great characters. Ron Glass was underrated. The great ones always are.

@Daniel Appleton That's great to hear! I heard the Orville is going there too. I'll certainly check it out. Thanks for the info.

Made us laugh
Made us cry
You will be forever missed
made us not talk in movie theatres
“Yes, you are.”
Farewell, Shepherd.
Love Shepherd Book... May he rest in peace.
River, honey, he's putting the hair away now.
"Hell yes, Preacher! If I didn't have things to do, I'd be down there with her!"
The whole hair freak out thing is really funny!!!!!!🤣
@@DefendYoungstown I loved that "WOW" she says.
That will always be one of my favorites
I've always wished that we could have had Shepherd's whole story. An excellent character played by an amazing actor.
As someone who knows what happened in the comics…personally I think his character is better served not knowing.
Really? That makes me sad. 😢

I really liked Shepherd Book I wanted to see more of him
Lovely lovely tribute! May you rest in peace, Ron Glass!
rest in peace Ron glass, you will be missed.
Ron Glass was amazing in this show. I think we should find out who was responsible for canceling Firefly and publicly shame them on You Tube.
he was so good in Barney Miller. A shame he didn't get more roles. Because he was wonderful in everything he touched.
Man if you didn't know that last one was coming it would wipe you out
I really think should've included, from "Safe": "I think I might be needing a preacher" along with Mal's response.
Detective R. N. Harris.
He also helped set up one of Inara's best lines: "Why are you so fascinated by him?" "Because he's something of a mystery. Why are you?" "Because so few men are."
3:39 Who's cutting onions in here?? 😭
Rest Easy Ron.💝
A moment, for a fine actor.😞
Welp! No remake of the show now! He cant be replaced!
Seriously! Sadly no remake! He was irreplaceable!!!!
RIP Shepherd Book
Mal: You did the right thing.
Book: Coming from you that means.... almost nothing.
If only the show wasn't rushed, I really would've loved to see where they were going with the Reavers, amongst with other plots of course.
when i first saw the good shepherd book i thought he was Dr.Albert Einstein cuz of the hair! what i was like 7ish~.
Rest well, Shepherd. Rest well.
So we have eps out of order, watermarks that don't match the channel name, and alerts from the recording device in the video.
Must have been done by FOX
Until we all meet again on that Golden Shore . . .
The fact that River was scared of Book’s hair tho 🤣🤣🤣
Anyone else checking their phone at 2:27 or is that just me?
people who talk at the theaters
How dare you 😤

Too bad he wasn't around when certain priests were taking advantage of children under their care. Their church definitely needed his counsel.
