I live in Winnipeg and have been a Belafonte fan since I was a little girl. I was AT this concert at our Centennial Concert Hall!! It’s a bittersweet memory today but I’m so happy to have come across this video. Thanks for posting it. Rest in peace always Harry, and thank you for the music!💔🎶😢
I remember during apartheid days his music could not be played on SABC and Bophuthatswana Governments' Bop TV" repeatedly played the concert and Radio Bop played his music and that how we knew this struggle hero.
Harry Belafonte is a living legend in the music industry - He voice is recognized the moment you hear it - He is a Singer - an Actor - A Producer - A Civil Rights Activists - He is known all over the world - Harry Belafonte one of the world best entertainer
I gave up looking for this concert online ages ago, and just recently tried searching for it again. It hadn't occurred to me to try looking again for a long time until today, and this is the only time I've ever seen it posted anywhere! I actually wasn't sure where it originally aired; thought it might have been on PBS and totally forgot it was an HBO broadcast. I used to have a VHS copy that was recorded off the cable box way back in prehistoric times! ♥
And to know he's still around with us today in March 2021, aged 94 years. That's amazing. Bless you Harry Belafonte, and what a privilege to have shared time with you. Your heart for God, for good, and for life is such a refreshing. A real statesman for whom heaven awaits his arrival with a standing ovation.
He is leggy.Thought of a Jamaican the fastest man on earth.so tall.and his long arms too.what i know colored ppl are strong.most excel n athletics.they are survivors and hard working.Made slaves ,farm workers, laborers but they never complain.such injustice done to them but they still thrive up to this day.u can not wipe them out.wonderful genes!
I'll enjoy your talent anytime anywhere forever It's 5:42 in the morning now December 20 2021 as you continue to lift my spirit Thank you Harry ⛄🎄 RicButton
Thank you again Menno. Spectacular. Love the opener . I rate it just behind “Darlin Cora “ as his best concert opener. This concert was performed in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
I VCRd this when it was originally on HBO back in the day and watched it all Summer long. Cannot believe decades later how great this still looks and sounds.
I remember watching this when it was broadcast. I love the playful energy he put into it. You can tell that being up there is a source of fun and enjoyment for him as much as it is for the audience.
Wish I can get a copy .
An exceptional performer .
An even greater human being..
My, my ,my .
We are so blessed to have had him on this earth.
Three years ago I was hoping to see this video well...here I am watching the full version.
OMG - I remember watching this concert on TV when I was a teenager! I'm so glad I found it today in 2024!!!! Brings back so many memories.
I'm heartbroken today to have lost such a treasure. I'm glad to still have the recordings around to listen to his beautiful gift. Rest well!
He is loved in Romania too!

It’s a classic.
