The Dao (single edge sword) was introduced during the Han Dynasty and quickly took over the battlefield. The sword had incredible chopping power and could be easily wielded by a novice, and nearly unstoppable in the hands of an expert swordsman. In this video we take a look at the long Han Dynasty Dao, and the fascinating history about the sword, the era, and a very legendary breed of horse. The sword I have in this video was provided by LK Chen swords, it is called the "Heavenly Horse Dao" and is quite a force to be reckoned with. In the video I mention a handful of other videos you might find interesting about the Hexi corridor, the War of the Heavenly Horse, and the journey of Zhang Qian and the early days of the silk road.

This sword's wrapping is REALLY tied to it's functionality. With no hushou (handguard) to speak of, if the wrap doesn't have large nodes to maintain weapon retention, it is very easy for one's hand to slide up onto the blade.
The shorter models don't have the issue as badly, but the longer models, I think the wrap is extremely important to it's functionality and the safety of the weilder.

Sifu! May I ask, what are the Choy Li Fut forms that a complete beginner would learn.

Is it an optical illusion or are u using the wrong side of the sword and resting the blade against your body
It has a recurve so it looks opposite to most other sabers. If the blade edge were on my body I’d be bleeding 😅
