Man, as someone who just started playing TSW3, having you explain what you do on the controls and why as well as sharing tidbits about the trains and services is worth so much! Also, yeah: that darn paperwork! 😂

Dunno if you are aware but in the little glass cupboard behind the 2nd man's seat you can turn on the KVB & the COVIT safety systems and get a bit more immersion on the route's colour light aspects.

I can't believe I've gone from 'bloody train drivers are on strike again, how am I going to get to work', to googling how much do train drivers earn, to googling how hard is it to drive a train, to finding this channel, listening to the vlogs on the merits and downsides of being a train driver to watching a train driver play a computer simulation of driving a train. Crazy and enjoyable journey, without actually even catching a train (as they are on strike again next week). You're a very likeable guy though. This is a nice chilled out channel, equal parts informative and personality driven.

Thanks so much for your comment. Strikes are no good for anybody. Incidentally as a freight driver we are not in dispute and it has been business as usual. Except when the signallers are out and we can’t run trains. Hoping that all parties get round the table and sort it out soon, although looking at all the other groups of workers striking I feel government intervention on the cost of living crisis is the only thing that will help ease tensions. Such a difficult situation for everybody.

@@DadRail I agree, when you see barristers , Postmen & Doctors striking as well, you know things are seriously wrong with the economy. So many mistakes. After your video explaining how easy it is to switch off from your job when it becomes routine, I realised I switch off from mine and make mistakes all the time (everyday). My mistakes don't lead to me ploughing 150 tonnes of steal into Paddington stations coffee shops.

If you want to have a little excitement with the Javelin, go on foot in the training area and bring one of the Javelins up to top speed on the large loop at 233kph. Make sure you have it ready to couple. Make sure you're on the left track while going clockwise around the big loop. With the second Javelin, get in front of the runaway train with plenty of space to get up to speed. Make sure you are in the back locomotive so you can see the runaway train coming and let it catch up to you at no more than 5kph. When it gently makes contact your trains will come to a stop. I've done it with the 465 and the 395 :)

Nice vid. On the real 395 the TVM arms to 160KM/h on the chords before you join the CTRL. Makes a big difference on that climbing gradient and you'll be doing 225KM/h just before you get to the Lenham Loops. Bit disappointed they've left out the 3 neutral sections on the route and the TVM indications you get for that and also the noise you get when the VCBs open and close. Also, don't worry about braking on CTRL. We come out of north downs tunnel heading for the Medway viaduct and we have the brakes rubbing all the way or you will join "234 Squadron".

Just watched a few minutes at the beginning - KVB watches you and knows the length of the train so you dare not exceed 40 kph until all of the unit has cleared the point work leaving platform 5.
Then I normally power up to 80 kph - with the maximum permitted being 100 kph. This is because the line dips entering the tunnel approaching the high speed line. But once the TVM430 arms it’s 100 just briefly then quickly changes to 160 so you can apply full power and burst onto high speed one accelerating through 130 kph and accelerating hard despite the gradient. Just a few inaccuracies in the simulator.

I am currently in to flights sims, and with those it is possible to connect to networks that have real people running Air Traffic Control (ATC) sims, which enables you to fly with more realistic interaction. I don't know if there are any signalling simulations out there, but would train sim benefit from being able to connect to a network that included signallers controlling routes?

When the train was downloaded I was travelling at 99.7 mph. I would have thought that 13MPH over the speed limit would have triggered an emergency brake application in the cab.

Right now I am just pressing keys in a memorised sequence without really understanding what I'm doing. (2) I like the challenge of responding to the AWS but haven't experienced it much in TW3; does it have to be enabled in some kind of difficulty setting? Many thanks.

Hi Steve, as a freight train driver working for a profitable private company that receives no government subsidies, I am pleased to say that my employer has seen fit to offer me suitable remuneration, whilst maintaining a healthy profit, paying dividends and contributing to the exchequer. This has been achieved without industrial action. Thanks to the Tory policies of high wage society and trickle down economics, I am pleased to say that I pay a large amount each month in tax as does my wife who works for the NHS, furthering the benefit to the exchequer. Thanks to our wages I am able to further contribute to the economy by being able to pay for childcare, helping to support my local nursery and their staff. I am able to pay for a window cleaner and man to clean my wheelie bin, I am able to eat in local restaurants and support local business, such as my local computer shop, all of which employ staff and pay taxes furthering the benefit to the exchequer, I also have a private pension and private healthcare meaning my personal burden on the state is reduced.
I am able to do this because my profitable employer sees fit to pay me a good wage. In return I work hard to support that company and go above and beyond when it’s required. Industrial action was not required and was not even considered. My salary and my job has nothing but positive effects on the wider economy.
