And it's legit! Not quite easy to explain, but if you look into senility, dementia and Altzheimer's, you'll find that many patients react vividly and positively to things that are linked to their far past. Also: Props to Rowling for having her books deal with this shit. And props to the makers of this movie, too! It made me realize the connection. For everyone there is a possibility to walk in Neville's boots, all it takes is their parent to get plagued by a mind-decaying desease -- and most of them are running in families (my own included). Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
The actress portraying Bellatrix did a really good job! She got the mannerisms and speech patterns right and she even looks like Helena Bonham-Carter! This was a really good fan film, keep at it!
Not saying that it isn't horrible before, but seeing the whole Frank and Alice story portrayed with live action has reminded me once again how gruesome their fates were. Harry said that it was like red hot knives sticking through every inch of your skin and makes you want to die to escape the pain, and he just had it briefly. Frank and Alice have 4 people using the spell on them, and for god knows how long. Seriously one of the most horrible fate that I have ever known in fiction. And Neville knew exactly what happen to them all along since a small kid. Poor boy.
The scene at St. Mungo's where Alice gives baby & young Neville a droobles blowing gum wrapper is so gut wrenching. Thank u for including that! Can't believe they left out that scene in the movies.

This is absolutely incredible. Amazing cinematography, amazing acting, amazing story, amazing attention to detail, just - WOW! This should be canon. That's the best compliment I can give to a fan film
Yes, it is great, very well done. And so many details included, I simply loved it. However there is one detail I would have loved to see added: if the candy wrapper had had some meaning. E.g. Alice could have given Neville a candy wrapper right before leaving to go look for frank. Like this, the wrapper would have a meaning to alice and Neville and nobody else. It might be Alice's way of telling Neville, that she remembered him, even if she could no longer express it...
He is remembered. When he showed up as a baby to see them for the first time in the hospital she hands him a wrapper because she happened to have one on hand, and as he's shown up all through the years, she always gives him a wrapper. This includes an actual scene from the fifth book when the gang runs into Neville in the hospital, and his mother follows after him specifically making a point of giving him a wrapper again. This movie takes a scene from the book which is meant to indicate that his mother has lost it and doesn't have a clue about anything, and turned that behavior into a non verbal sign from her that somewhere deep down she still remembers him and knows she loves him.
I love this, the little details, like Neville having a frog stuffed animal, a hint to Trevor later on, and how they mentioned having to leave Barty behind, the acting, the costumes, all amazing.

@@_natya im not sure. Harry lives knowing that his parents died, when he thinks about them he sees young happy people. But Neville lives knowing how much is parents suffered (imagine loving your parents and knowing that they were in such intense pain that it made them insane, its a terrifying thought), if he think about his parents he sees people who are barely alive. Harry can dream about his parents being alive, but Neville parents are alive, at the same they arent. I dont know how a child is supposed to emotionally navigate this situation, and god knows his grandma probably didnt help him with that.
Lily's last words to Harry: "Harry, you are so loved. So loved. Mama loves you. Dada loves you. Harry, be safe. Be strong." Alice's last words to Neville: "I love you. Be brave, little wizard."

I'm crying. It was really strong. I rarely feel that way. Last scene with Neville and Alice is... I can't find words. And when Alice run to Frank and she is tortured. Wow. Wow. Seriously. Wow. Thank you. Wow.
This does help explain why Neville is scared of his grandma that he lives with, she's probably protective of him since both of his parents were hurt. Neville's crying was probably because he could feel what happened to his parents.
Neville was greatly underestimated, he used magic from birth, and fell behind in school due to the fact that the wand did not belong to him. As a character, he is much deeper than they decided to show him. It would be interesting to reveal him as a character
not exactly, Neville didn't show any sign of magic prior to Hogwarts until his uncle put him in a life or death situation which forced him to use magic. Kids start to own magic wands when they're 11 years old. But yeah, during his school year, using a wand that belong to someone else, the lack of confidence and not living up to his parents' name make it harder for him. I'm so proud of our guy Neville
His backstory was also incredibly underestimated, lots of people don’t realise just how much he had to go through. I personally knew his backstory, but this film made me realise how terrible it actually was. Neville should have more backstory and character in the books and the films, he deserves it.
@@gk2370 The way I've reconciled this telling with Nevil's cannon is that he did start showing magic as a baby, but only around his parents, and the trauma of loosing them caused him to withdraw and not show anymore magic until said uncle did what he did. Either Frank and Alice weren't sharing with family that Nevil started to show magic, or after so many years of nothing the family started to assume that what Frank and Alice had confused simple occurrences with Nevil doing magic. Adds a whole new way Bellatrix messed up his life.
No he was not bad at school because the wand didn't belong to him.... Because in the DA and the Department of Mysteries, he accompanied Harry and shot some powerful or at least working spells with that same wand but unfortunately it broke there.
I think that's where Harry Potter Universe should go next. He was a fascinating wizard when you think about it. Spent roughly a decade using any ole wand, and eventually was able to use any wand no matter what...this is something other wizards aren't able to do. He was experience at it which would give him an edge in the future with wands, which is a bit counter-intuitive but true. In a duel he could pick up any wand, and use it no problem as an adult. I guess he could also use the elder wand too. A film series of Neville as an adult or a TV series would I guess be as good as any harry potter film. Something J.K. Rowling could consider.
I think Neville's tragedy hits harder because he has to live with it constantly. James and Lily, whilst dead, got to know the peace that comes with it. Frank and Alice live in Hell every day, with no chance of ever recovering
Did Longbottoms were protected with a secret keeper like Potters? I was wondering how Bellatrix was laughing at their window looking at them if they did...
@@diehard8615 no, I doubt they were, Snape said that Voldemort went after the Potters, so although Neville was the 2nd option as his doom, Voldy set it in stone for Harry. There was no need for 2 secret keepers.
@@lucabestea6844 There was no other way around because Voldemort's downfall was possible only because of Snape, you see, Snape requested Voldemort to spare Lily and that's the turning point of this whole story

This fanmade work is incredible and it deserves to be its own movie. It made me realise how Neville's childhood was just as emotional as Harry's once was.

@@nemo.ohne.n True but that doesn't matter as much as the fact that they did really well. Bellatrix was perfect, Hogwarts-age Neville was perfect, Dumbledore looked kind of like how Aberforth does in the movies but it's all good. It was awesome when he showed up to arrest Bella.
Very good work on this. Bellatrix actress nailed the character. I also like that you didn't spend too much time on duels and focused more on the interactions of the characters. Also how A&F talk about how much Neville is improving magically, only to be thought of as a squib by his Grandmother and extended family after his self-esteem plummets.
Nailed it! We wanted the event to affect Neville’s magical ability later in life (as early development trauma would do that in a magical world). Glad you noticed that detail!
I completely agree, I thought the actress of Bellatrix did an impressive job, even capturing the tiny details that Helena Bonham Carter originally brought to the character. Well done.

She did an amazing job. I made a fun parody trailer for a new Harry Potter starring the original actors. Take a look if you want a laugh.

@@kathrynbaker3609 Could I do it?
The fact that I could feel the pain of them being tortured and Nevilles pain of not being remembered it hurts. I love this fan made movie!

Yes, exactly. Children just.... know.
@@noorykorky5056 especially those that have magic.
The heart knows what the mind does not
Neville was greatly underestimated, he used magic from birth, and fell behind in school due to the fact that the wand did not belong to him.
Wonder what it would have been like if it was the other way around...
Voldemort going after the Longbottoms, would then Bellatrix torture the Potters?
Did Longbottoms were protected with a secret keeper like Potters? I was wondering how Bellatrix was laughing at their window looking at them if they did...
@@diehard8615 no, I doubt they were, Snape said that Voldemort went after the Potters, so although Neville was the 2nd option as his doom, Voldy set it in stone for Harry. There was no need for 2 secret keepers.
