This was filmed early last week as reference for anyone wanting to see the red leaves in Kyoto! 🍁The leaves turned red a bit later than usual this year!

Well, 22:01 is wild … I’m originally from Caracas, and for 11-ish years I ate _arepas_ nearly every day! How bananas that you first tried our national dish in Japan, _pero ¡ojalá la disfrutaste!_

Was also in Osaka/Kyoto last last week yes the leaves were not in full autumn color but my friend who lived in Tokyo also said the leaves are a bit late to turn red because usually when it is already cold the leaves are already turn red or have fallen down. Still a marvel to see coming from South east asia

oh jeez , I miss Kyoto.
It's bit unfortunate i no longer work as remote worker.
I remember a year ago i still travel freely in Japan due to nature of my work.
There one restaurant right after the exit of Bamboo forest in Arashimaya, the food is good
Not oily , the soup / broth is super delicious and clear soup
Me and my wife love it.
I think I'll go back for another time when i quite my job and have a little travel all together

May I suggest something? With the 大阪 World’s Fair coming up, a step-by-step series devoted to helping people 1) get to 日本, 2) figure out where in 大阪 to stay, 3) get around 大阪, 4) find local yums to eat, 5) see the best parts of the Expo, and 6) figure out where else in 日本 to go, might be well received! I don’t think the world’s gotten excited about a World’s Fair since New York ‘64 or maybe Montreal ‘67 or Osaka ‘70, and it’d be great to see people get excited about something forward-looking again … perhaps you could help stir that up!

I've been watching your videos for a long time and I felt compelled to comment on this one because you mentioned "Arepas", that's my country's national dish, I am from Venezuela but I live in Chile at the moment, I didn't imagine arepas existed in Japan, let alone that you would've loved them. It fills me with proud. Keep it up, and don't feed the monkeys. PS: Your videos are amazing, bye.

Thanks for visiting Toraya. It brought back embarrassing memories. I was there exactly one year ago from the date as I type this. I enjoyed my time at the cafe very much. I was with my neighbor, who is from Kyoto but hasn’t returned for twenty years. She wanted to take me to her favorite wagashi store. When we arrived, we found the building was recently rebuilt. She didn’t know. She encouraged me to buy omiyage for my friend that was going to meet up in Tokyo. She said it’s a very special shop. So I did. A few days later, I met up with my Tokyo friend in front of Tokyo Station and we had lunch at a cafe. I just followed her. At lunch, I gave her the wagashi and I went on to explain that it’s from Toraya, a very famous shop in Kyoto with over a hundred years of history. She smiled and said that the cafe is a branch of Toraya and they sold the same wagashi. 😮 My neighbor said she forgot that Toraya is a chain now…😅

    • @seerasan
      @seerasan  6 месяцев назад

Ah, the Hankyu train! I lived on the Hankyu Takarazuka line in a city called Toyonaka, just north of Osaka. Major nostalgia hit seeing the Hankyu Arashiyama station and seeing you sit in those plush green seats on the Hankyu train. I lost count of how many times I took a day trip to Kyoto, pretty much always on the Hankyu line. I liked that train line so much, I even bought a little maroon die-cast Hankyu train toy to bring back to the states with me as a keepsake. Sorry for saying Hankyu so much in this post. There, I've said it again (>_

From your videos, it seems like Japanese people themselves constitute the greatest number of in-country tourists, which is really neat. Today in the U.S.A., it seems less usual to travel across one’s own state to watch leaves turn, or to another state to visit a cave, or cross-country for a massive theater event … I think in my grandmom’s day it was pretty typical, maybe the trains were better. Perhaps one advantage to having great trains reaching every part of one’s country is tourism!! Maybe in Australia people visit other parts of Australia too, but in the U.S. I feel like that kind of in-country ravel has dwindled. Thanks for the upload, please revisit the snow monkeys someday - I loved those guys!!

I was in Arashiyama a few days ago. It’s an incredibly picturesque place and it would have most likely been the highlight my trip so far but I am really struggling to enjoy myself in these crowds. Obviously I am part of the crowd myself but I thought I was going at a time of year when there wouldn’t be as many tourists!

I feel you! Hard to complain too much when you’re part of the crowds… but sometimes it is just too much & takes away from the experience 😭 Getting there early like 7am would definitely help I think.. (I tried and slept in too much haha)

@@seerasansame… I stayed in a ryokan fully intending to leave early but it was just a little bit too comfortable lol

Back in autumn 2017 I was about to hop a shinkansen to Kyoto when a little obachan asked me what I was planning to see there. I didn't have anything particular lines up so she spent the first hour of the ride starting me a map of Kyoto's shrines and temples that I should visit while there, dropping it off to me when she alighted. There was one on the western side of the map that she hadn't included the romaji for so I spent a couple hours using kanji apps to figure it out. It turned out to be the Jokkakoji temple you visited and it was so worth the hassle trying to find it - the foliage was bright orange, my favourite colour. Can't wait to visit Kyoto again to complete the handwritten scavenger hunt. ❤

Thanks for the video Sarah! For reference, I am going to Kansai mid October 2024 and bringing some friends who have never been to Japan. Is that too early to see the leaves change color?

One person is worth the trip to Kyoto. Hisako, who runs the Mume Hôtel.
