    Hi Rogier, thx for all those details you share! What I´m eagerly waiting for is a video of a valve check since the intervals are rather short (compared to 40 000 km intervals on my WR250R)
    Especially to see what you have to rip off to get to the valve cover. Looks like a lot of work in front of the throttle body what I can see from this video.

      Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately I did the 10k valve inspection and did not make a video of it. Getting to the valve cover is straight forward. Remove the side panels, fuel snorkel and air box. Then you can remove the valve cover. Measure the amount of valve play and if needed put in a different shim. Good chance that you drop the shim somewhere down in the valve area. Make sure you have a magnet on a stick ready to fish it out. I believe my exhaust valves had tightened and I needed to shim them both down a size. Remove old traces of gasket sealant. Clean the old gasket. Put a fresh bit of sealant around the round notches of the gasket, the ones that line up with the camshafts. Put cover back, don't over tighten. Go for a test ride. All in all not a difficult job. Fiddly yes, mainly because of the risk of dropping the shim and having to fish it out.

    Hi Rojier, thanks for your helpful Videos on the PR7.
    I’m riding the same ECU in my 2017 PR7. Did you ever test the ECU in higher altitude? I am wondering how it performs now that the O2 sensor is out of function. I am planning to take the bike to Chile next winter, that’s why I’m asking.

    • @joacerbis
      @joacerbis  5 месяцев назад +1

      @@conradfischer2177 Hi Conrad, the O2 sensor in the exhaust is only needed if you have a catalytic converter. It's better to disconnect if you have the doma exhaust. The mapping for the doma exhaust doesn't use the O2 sensor at all. And even if used it only serves to adjust the fuel air mixture to prevent damage to the catalytic converter (which the doma doesn't have) and not to adjust mixture for altitude. The MAP sensor is the one to provide the ECU with information to which a good ECU mapping would adjust correctly for altitude. The factory mapping is not good. Make sure you have the latest mapping. A lot of work was put in a correct mapping by the guys from Thork racing.

    • @conradfischer2177
      @conradfischer2177 4 месяца назад

      @joacerbis thank you for making me smarter on the O2 sensor function! Since the AJP and many other Bikes do not carry a MAP-Sensor, I assume adaption to high altitude will then be done in a different way, so I´ll stop worrying. Again thank you for taking the time to answer 🙂

    • @joacerbis
      @joacerbis  4 месяца назад

      @@conradfischer2177 you're welcome. The map sensor is located inside the throttle body. It's on the left side behind the big butterfly valve. The ECU still needs to be programmed and it takes a person to do this who actually took the bike to high altitudes to collect data. Anything above 3000 meters you are lucky if the manufacturer went thru the trouble to collect data. I haven't taken the bike that high so I can't tell you.

    Hi Rogier, your videos have been very helpful. I currently have a DRZ400E which I like a lot but it has it's limitations as you would probably know. Just wondering if you still have the PR7 and if so how many km's now and how is it going? If you could now buy another bike, what would you get?

    • @joacerbis
      @joacerbis  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for your comment. I still own the PR7. Haven't gone anywere with it for a year except around the block due to Corona. It still only has a little over 10.000 km on the clock. I would like to have a smaller bike, an enduro. Yamaha yzf450 or a 250. I have discovered that I really enjoy technical terrain and I'm willing to go with little luggage and trailer the bike to where the fun starts. However if the Corona situation permits I'll take the PR7 to Morocco again this year. I have put a larger sprocket on the rear making it not suitable for long stints on the motorway, basically trying to turn the bike into an enduro which it isn't. So, it depends on what kind of traveling you intent to do with the bike. It is a wonderful bike. Dirtbike feel, plenty of power.

      @@csta92 Hi, notice that around 2021 AJP launched the new PR7 model where the ECU was changed from Delphi to one from Athena. This video is only relevant for the pre 2021 models that have the Delphi unit. The ECU in the video is the original Delphi unit that came with the DOMA power kit but it was flashed with the latest (at the time) mapping made by Thork racing. I have no experience with the newer bikes that have the Athena CPU.

    Dear Rogier,
    What is the maximum comfortable crusing speed on the highway with the AJP PR7 and what is the difference with luggage or without?

    • @joacerbis
      @joacerbis  4 года назад +4

      Hi Jan, I get asked that question a lot. The bike is relatively light. This means that it is susceptible to wind conditions. The front screen is pretty good in holding off a reasonable amount of wind blast. No buffeting for me, and I'm 177cm tall. Still the wind is there and on your shoulders. You're sitting straight up, wide handlebars.
      Of course, wear hearing protection because it's going to be noisy. My experience after 25 years of riding is that throw away foam hearing protection is better than custom made. (Sorry, had to mention that, even you didn't ask for it)
      So, you're all comfy, dressed up right, not cold, proper hearing protection. Let's say there is no wind. Real GPS speed:
      110kmh (68mph): All day. Not fun to sit on the autobahn at this speed of course.
      120kmh (75mph): Vibrations are manageable. Wind blast gets very tiring.
      130kmh (80mph): Vibrations become too much. Wind blast too much. Feeling sorry for the engine.
      Luggage or no luggage, I feel not much difference on the highway. Luggage may even make the bike feel a bit more planted.

      Hi Rogier,
      Thanks for your extended explanation much appreciated. Sorry to be so nosy as I have another question that keeps me occupied. In this segment I see three options and what made you choose the AJP PR 7 instead of KTM 690 and Husqvarna 701?
      Thanks in advance.
      Cheers Jan

    • @joacerbis
      @joacerbis  4 года назад +1

      @@janwigger5853 I guess I didn't consider the KTM690 but only the 701. My reasoning being the 701 and the PR7 being a bit more hardcore than the 690. So I was trying to decide between the 701 and the PR7. The PR7 is much more finished straight from the factory. The 701 needs a bunch of mods, bash plate, screen, etc. PR7 has a 17liter fuel tank and I found that important. That makes the purchase price of the PR7 less. I was taken by the rally styling and that tablet. I found it fascinating.
      Now, the 701 makes more sense. More aftermarket parts. Better resale value.
      I'm not recommending either of them. Really you have to try to test ride them both.

    Regelt de ecu ontsteking en fuelling?

    • @joacerbis
      @joacerbis  4 года назад

      Hallo Mark, ik had misschien moeten vertellen wat een ECU is. De ECU regelt inderdaad ontsteking en fueling. De motor heeft injectie. De ECU geeft aan de injector door hoe lang deze moet inspuiten.
      Sensoren die gebruikt worden om de mengverhouding brandstof/lucht te bepalen zijn de map/mat sensor in de throttle body en de throttle position sensor. O2 sensor is voornamelijk voor emissie doeleinden en voor het behoud van je katalysator, maar die katalysator zit niet op de raceuitlaat.
