My name is Ted Forbes and I make videos about photography. I’ve been making photographs most of my life and I have a tremendously deep passion for photography that I want to share with you on RUclips.
The Art of Photography is my channel and I produce photography videos to provide a 360 degree look into the world of making images. We all want to get better so lets do this together!
I make videos covering famous photographers, photography techniques, composition, the history of photography and much more.
I also have a strong community of photographers who watch the show and we frequently do social media challenges for photographers to submit their own work. I feature the best and most interesting on the show when we do these so come check it out and get involved!
These videos are what you do best and better than anyone, Ted. Always inspiring. 👊🏻
Thanks Matt!
I second that!
Ted, you are probably one of the very very very few photographers in youtube who understands photography as an art form.. very inspiring stuff
I shoot low angle photos, not for this specific assignment per say, but whenever I see fit. You put the theory together nicely, well said Ted.
Excellent, by far the best insight into the subject of low angle photos I've ever seen. Thanks Ted!
This felt like a Master Class on angles in 5 min!
Besides some online lectures on RUclips, your channel is one of the greatest in terms of dealing with the art of photography. Great content Ted! It is great that someone is giving so much content in what the essence or art of photography is all about. Setting the focus on the image and not on the gear is verry important ... I saw on the Facebook thread for assignment that people where posting pictures from pinhole cameras to phone and this is great. Some of the pictures you showed in this video where made with cameras/film with 2 digit ASA/ISOs. Great content, Cheers!
Ted, you are a good person.
Thank you so much for these tutorial/historical information. Excellent channel you have!! I'm a fairly new photographer and drone video guy but I'm absolutely in love with it. I destroyed my lower back in a work accident and it has blessed my life in the sense that I am now pursuing what I've always wanted to do. Your videos give me very useful and interesting information all the time.
Please keep making them!! Anza, California
Best photography videos on RUclips. Just been teaching it to my 6 year old.
Yep, camera position matters. A lot in fact. One of the most underestimated variables in photography these days, I can't help thinking. Another inspirational composition video, Ted. Keep them coming.
Always bringing a different perspective, one of the great communicators at top of their game
Can’t wait to see what PoV you will choose for your podcast when we will do shots from above. Maybe shooting it outside in a swirling stairway will provide a nice dramatic effect. Alternatively, you might use your drone, who knows!
Nice video Ted! Combining perspective and low angle shooting is an essential reference information. Perspective is greatly exaggerated when shooting at an angle and if one chooses his focal length wisely, he can add much more distortion, emphasizing grandeur or scale to his shot.
LOVE THIS TUTORIAL! One of my first photography mentors ALWAYS suggested that we get down and shoot from lower angles! :) Keep up the great work!
Videos like this are why I subscribed to your channel. Well done.
Love this idea of photo assignments look forward to sharing and seeing everyone's contributions
Low angles rock.
Often people look surprised when I tell them. Till they do it.
Great tips ;)
I loved this Ted! Thank you!
Absolutely loved this video Ted!! many thanks!! I've been doing some pics for the assignment and I liked the results. still, most of the time I got use to shoot more or less from a a centre angle (from my belly height) this time I did it straight from the floor.
Photography class @ it's best !
Really excited for this! Just a quick point: there are a lot of people using the hashtag so it might be difficult to pick out our pictures
Thank you for this video. The Episode won't maybe seem very complex, but the amount research that got into that seems very very big. For me at least.
Of all your videos, I enjoy this one the best. Thank you.
Thank you for this video, very helpful, especially as I decided to use this low angle as my project 365 for 2017. I had been taking very low, ground level images since 1st Jan, but on the 13th I slipped on ice and fractured three ribs, which currently makes getting down low difficult. So I've been taking other low angles, based on the height of subject or the surface it's sitting on. It's a tough assignment that's for sure. Even without the rib problems. Hopefully I will get 365 photos by the end pf the year and some of those will be half decent.
(me groveling on the floor shooting photos of my mother's cat.)
dad walks in. " oh. I thought you fell down"
God i love episodes like this.
How funny to see some of the sights of Cow Town in your video... One or two sights and buildings (the YWCA not the YMCA, the fire escape on the side of the building at W.7th and Lamar), make for some great photographs. Good for a lazy Sunday morning photo walk.
Shot a roll of 120 and a roll of 35mm for this assignment over last weekend, should have the scans back by the end of the week (paid for a rush job!).. Hope I get a few killer images to print, tape into my sketchbook, and share!
KUTGW Ted, love the show!
Love low angle shooting.
I love your videos man :) so honest and full of info. You are not hiding any knowledege
Awesome episode- thanks Ted.
I have high appreciation for your low angles. Nice video.
This is a very good reminder. Love your composition vids.
That was refreshing and inspiring, thank you. Could've watched another 5-10 minutes easy!
zero dislikes, that speaks for itself. Thank you Ted :)

My teacher is showing this to us for distance learning
@@dnghn.design that's a nice idea! Those photography assignments were huge back then. Have a nice day 😊
Great video!!
Impressive work!
Great video Ted!
Hi Ted, great video, as always, I may have to add. Your channel is a real treasure in a otherwise mostly noisy media world.
A question I wanted to ask for while is: What’s your point on the whole copyright issue with photographs, let’s say concerning the old masters, etc. What is allowed to use as a "journalistic" blogging person, when would you ask for permission, and whom to ask, let’s say if you show something from HCB as a reference?
I’m also asking because, in some counries the laws may be more prohibitive than elsewhere, would be interesting to elaborate a bit on that.
Maybe that topic could make it in a feature vlog post. ;-)
Great video Ted. I learn a lot watching your videos.
I love low angle photography.
Elliot Erwitt has some great low angle photography :D
FANtastic video.
Bloody love this
Great video Ted! :)
great video and a big help!
Very inspiring!
As always Ted, another great video with superb content!
As an aside, I find it hilarious that you're 'still in boxes'! As a frequent mover myself (thank's Uncle Sam), I completely understand! LOL!
very insightful!
Great video, thanks.
Hi Ted,
Hope you are doing well.
I have been following you on RUclips and I love the work you do explaining and trying to show photography from the other side. Not the mechanical and "press the shutter button" way , but from the art point of view (apparently, since your channel name is ..).
So now my question is, could you name the top 5 books that you would recommend for a photographer to develop himself as an artist? I know, that it doesn't come just by reading books, but still, something that would talk more in-depth about the topics that you cover like negative space, color palette, angle of shooting, composition, etc. Book for a person who is already very comfortable and advanced with the camera as an instrument.
I'd be really happy to hear from you.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Marat Amanzholov
Loved the explanation, thanks
Awesome Ted. Too much of the time we shoot at eye level. It isn't that easy to change viewpoint without conscious thought
Always great content Ted! And plus, you had Orlando clips that I recognized... :)
great video ted!
i would love to see more book presentations like you used to do. :)
Great video as always.
I would like to ask what is Micro Contrast? Does it really exist? And if so how can it be recognized?
I really wish if you can do a video on this confusing topic.
And one last thing what Canon lens has the best Micro Contrast?
Thank you so much 😊.
can believe no one has aked for the name of the music, its so beautiful. ted please whats the name of the song??
i wonder if ted ever tried or will try household developer, eg caffenol,teanol,etc...
Thanks for your good information.
Lovely footage of the buildings, Ted. Great video as always. :)
Great show. Just recently discovered your channel and we've found it enjoyable and insightful. Thank you. Looking forward to more and perhaps we'll submit a photo for the challenge.
This was very helpful, thank you
Great video once again… Just one question. You did not mention tumblr as a venue for presenting one's photo assignments. Has tumblr been dropped?
great video!
Such an interesting and very well made video, thank you.
Enjoyed the Video...Learnt something new....Thanx alot ^_^
Love Your videos dearly, but the music has the effect (independent of it's style) of a ringing telefon in the back, wich is really annoying. In other videos You had the volumen of music significant lower than the narration. Nethertheless I find Your work the best and most significant I know!
There is nothing like your videos here, that's true. All ten up.
thanks
Love it!
Amazing video and beautiful shots anyone knows the song please.
thank you..
This is a great video :)
OOOOOOOOOOOH I missunderstud my challenge topic "low angle" now I get it, I'll redo it.
Hello, I'm a bit off with this question, but what is the best way to find "good" and inspirational photographs like the one you used during this video?
I have several photography books that are quite interesting, but I like to gather images and put them into my smarphone to look at them once in a while when I need something like an "inspiration boost"… So I was wondering what is your way to gather interesting images when you make your videos? (or maybe there isn't any particular way to do this…)
Cheers!
TURST67 Try Pinterest. You can organize boards with it. Also lookup Ted's. I think is TedForbes as user. He's got a lot of boards dealing with photographic subjects.
Have you given us a due date for this assignment?
Hi Ted, inspiring. What is the music that you've used? Or does anyone know?
Lol 1 dislike. You're killing it dude. So much leeaarrrnnniinnggg
You shoot in Fort Worth?
....ah and by the way ... You & Matt ... could you do something together ... some Forbes&Day ?...
I find it's easy to use low angles when I forget to bring a tripod or just have a Gorillapod with me. It's practically the default for me.

Instagram? Twitter? Facebook? What happened to Tumblr?
One lonely dislike, haha :)
