Just returned from a quick trip a couple weeks ago and wanted to note that airlines (SW especially) in the terminals were announcing new policies implemented that day, restricting the number of items you are allowed to board with. They said you could not carry any third item while boarding, it needed to be consolidated into your carry-on or personal item. This included so many things, regardless of size, like slings, purses, pillows, etc. So just be aware that having a sling on in addition to your 2 other items will now get you stopped. This seemed to impact a lot of folks boarding.

yeah I heard this announcement as well and followed a guy on to the plane who had stuff dangling from his neck and every appendage, noone said anything.

They have been like that for months now. They announce it but it depends on gate agents if they enforce it.

as a Londoner watching "Having a Fanny is Great" say what!? 😅 great video, i love it when people take long-haul flying seriously, i actually prefer it. i have some tips of my own
    1) i recently learnt that you should put compression socks on, on the morning of your flight! (what a game-changer it was)
    2) Electrolytes! take some and put them in your water! (pocari sweat also do powder) they make such a difference and add flavour to plain water (never drink airport fountain water tho)
    3) foot /leg sling! they're a little fiddly but help lift pressure off your thighs and the blood flow. ( i use it on and off during the flight) it goes on the tray table
    4) but my number 1, bring your own snacks and food- it makes the flight much more enjoyable
    5) i sometimes bring a reusable plastic bag and place it on the floor if i take my shoes off or want to put my bag down on it (previously i'd use the free newspapers)

Can you expound on why the compression socks helped so much? I've heard they're great, but no one has really explained what is different when you use them.

    • @velyvely6479
      @velyvely6479 11 месяцев назад

@@catetanenbaum2418 i also didn't bother for years, they once gave them free on long flights, but i purchased some for myself and also use during long bus/car rides
      i found this on google
Compression socks: What are they and who needs them ...
Compression socks - or compression stockings - are specialized socks that apply gentle pressure to your legs and ankles. They can help improve blood flow from your legs to your heart. “Compression socks have also been shown to help decrease swelling and pain in the legs and ankles,”

Blublockers: The old school 80s brand can not be beaten!
Cupped air masks are absolutely the best. Make sure whatever you get does NOT have a metal adjustment piece that annoyingly digs into your head.
Only long haul head pillow is the Cabeu. It packs small enough in its own case. 6 hours or more...anything less, no pillow needed.
Window seat must have is my bevledge. It opens up my tray space ...or close it without bother. Slides right in with my tablet space.
Arctic Cool shirts. No wool, quick dry, no odor, multi-day use.
    Coolibar clothes, lightweight, UV+, style
Wear recovery slides or foldable slippers on the long haul. Cover the soles with disposable shower caps when storing in your personal bag.
    Ultralight Osprey bum bag.
    Compression socks work!
GaN charger is so much smaller and works so well to minimize space real-estate and weight.
    PAKT! Love it!

The build quality is great, you can sip or chug AND the liquids stay cold for a long time!!! The 24oz is great for travel as it fits in most standard cupholders. Cheers ✌🏽

Been doing some long flights recently, my minimum list: some snacks, a comfy jacket, iPad mini, AirPods Pro and - to connect to the inflight entertainment the Bowers & Wilkins Pi7 S2 (these are not as loud as I would want them to be and I prefer the comfort and sound of the AirPods Pro, but they have one amazing party trick: the case can be connected to any audio source (3.5 connector) and transmits the signal to the earbuds..., very easy to set-up - one lesson learned though: the usb-c to 3.5 audio cable is proprietary (I broke my first and no commercial replacement worked, B&W's customer service was so kind to send me a new one)), I have recently also added a tracker to my passport wallet and take a few cables (usb-a to c, c to c and c to lightning), carry all but the jacket in a sling that stays with me...

Prepare for a long flight like you would prepare for a marathon. Eat well the few days before. Maybe carb load since that will help you retain water. The day of, be careful what you eat. You definitely don't want to be bloated or running to the bathroom.
Make sure you're active leading up to the flight, but don't over do it.
Try to fall asleep as the plane lifts off. That little push into the seat back can be enough to get me to pass out.

Southwest won't let you take more than one personal item with your carryon now. Example, if you have a duffel or backpack that goes under the seat along with your carry on , they won't let you wear the little sling as it's an "additional item"

  • @dancetheghost

I've done 8 nonstop 16 hour economy flights in the last year and the main thing re jetlag/sleep I've found effective when flying around that duration for direct/nonstop: leaving at night and arriving evening at my destination when possible lets me adjust fine, no matter how little sleep on the plane I get, I just have to last a few hours then sleep it off. Only time I had to fly morning to morning for the usual route was 4 days of hell. I also feel way better the more water I drink, yeah it's annoying getting up all the time but movement is also good.
Once through security I fill a slimline insulated water bottle with a flip sip lid at a water station and transfer everything I'll need in-flight into a waterproof small pouch that fits in the seat pouch - meds/eye mask/earplugs and/or phones/wipes or sanitiser/travel toothbrush, paste/charger cords or powerpacks/tech/book/whatever - and use a tiny lockable carabiner on the zips, keep it on top of everything in my underseat bag until boarded then transfer it. Don't have to fumble around even under the seat with that. Get water every time it's offered, also usually mini bottles you can just grab from the galleys in econ.

Beware the magnesium oxide, you will poop. Stick with citrate or glycinate. As for clothing, same for the ladies. I do carry on only and stick with black, navy and grey. A nice pair of black joggers can get you most places. If you need fancy, the simplest black dress you can find. I recommend the Gap, they always seem to have black dresses, often Target too. Wear sneakers on the plane, stuff your black ballet flats in the bag. Skip bringing all the potions and lotions, you will not fall apart a few days off your routine. Minimal makeup, no more than one mascara, one foundation, two lipsticks. Don't bother with jewelry, you'll just worry about it.
