I'll start by saying that I grew up with a narcissist (& p*do) father and a compliant mother. Life sucked growing up.
Back in the 60s, I "gave" my mother the text of "On Children."
She returned the text with corrections and commentary about how wrong I was, point by point.
Although I overcame so much of the physical and emotional trauma of my childhood, hearing these words for the first time in 60 or so years brought me to tears. These tears were a surprise to me!
I did defy the odds to become a strong woman fighting for what I feel is the "right thing to do." I will continue that fight until my last breath …

I might give it a chance again soon but I remember reading this around 16/17yo and thinking it was only platitudes written by a writer without any stylistic talent. But eh who knows !

Not too long from when I first read it but it could be life experience giving more appreciation.
