- Welcome to the Canary Islands! This week, we spend some leisure island time in Gran Canaria, one of the biggest islands in Spain's Canary Islands. This is the perfect destination for slow travel and where we stayed, didn't even require a car. We stay near Las Canteras beach which is one of the best things to do on Gran Canaria! We can confirm that it does not disappoints. Next week, we go back to the big adventures but for now, we hope you enjoy Daily life on Gran Canaria!

OUR STORY
We're Meghan & Matt, two travelers from the United States on a journey to travel 1,000,000 miles! For 2 years, we lived in our self converted van and traveled all over North America! During this time, we caught the travel bug, HARD. So we set a goal to travel one million miles! Now, we’re hiking, biking, driving, flying and even training around the world to discover as much as possible! Recently, we sold our van and packed up our lives into bags and boarded a one way flight to Europe, leaving behind no house, no car and not even a house/car. From now on, we will be living our of suitcases and traveling full time. How long is this lifestyle going to last? I️ guess you’re going to have to subscribe and follow along to find out!

"Fluff it with a FORK??" ahahaha I'm DYING! Loved seeing a typical day in the life!
haha thanks! I️ feel like my soul left my body when he said that
Hello guys! I am from Gran Canaria, cool video, you should visit La Palma is the most beautiful island in my opinion
Hello! Thank you for watching. We will try to make it out there!
We totally agree here. 😉
My favorite van life couple I've been gone for 4 a while looking foward to catching up on you guys adventures 🤗
We missed you!

Hi guys! I can't wait which other Spanish destinations you'll be travelling to next. I hope you get to go to Basque Country, Galicia or Cantabria. There's a lot of green and lush mountains to explore, everything there is full of nature!
Also, this Saturday one of the biggest european traditions is taking place, which is the Eurovision Song Contest! I know it's not well known in america but here in Europe is like a tradition, everyone meets with their friends and family to watch the show and have fun. In Spain we love watching it, I really recommend you watch the final to get a little taste of european culture!
That sounds amazing thank you for sharing that! We will figure out how to tune in. We watched a movie about the Eurovision Song Contest once I️ think. It was a comedy with Will Farrell. Hope we can make it up to the north and west parts of Spain. Honestly there’s an endless list of places to explore
Sorry guys but siesta time is usually 14-17 maximal. Never 16/20. Restaurants use not to cook between 16/20. But not because siesta time but because we are never use to eat among these hours. So kitchen is closed. It is not a Big deal to get a warm meal in touristic places but in small and not touristic places Spanish people lunch is 14/15.30 and dinner 20/22.30 before or after you can take tapas but they could refuse to serve you if you are out of this times… ( small cities, towns… etc.) good luck. But we use to be indulgent and friendly with our visitors… especially if they are lost and hungry… so do not worry too much about timings.😊
We have definitely noticed this in the less touristy areas, that’s why we were happy to find restaurants open! We tried, but haven’t been able to adapt to the Spanish eating schedule as you mentioned. We were once told the restaurants closed for siesta but your explanation makes more sense 😊 thank you for watching!
When at the nude beach, did you feel like people were staring at you? When we went to CanCun, my wife went topless and she felt like the world was staring! Love your video!
Thank you! Here, no. I️ had to stop myself from staring just because we’re not used to it 😂 every 5th woman was topless so it seemed normal to them
Spain and Mexico are so different. In Spain, especially on the Canary Islands, being on the 🏖 beach without a 👙-top is totally normal. On some beaches like Anfi del Mar, Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles there are often more women without 👙-top than with tops. My girlfriend always loves to sunbathe and swim there without, everyone is super relaxed, no one is staring.
@@ttadoremano for sure, Spain and Mexico are definitely different vibes
Tracy took us to a similar style beach in Portugal.. Needless to say, a bit overwhelming at first.
Makes for an interesting story though right?
@@Meghanandmatt one of my favorite ones to remember, 😂. If you make it to Portugal (Faro) it’s called “Ilha Deserta”.. If you enjoyed Spain, the Algarve region is one to add to your plans. People are amazing! Hope y’all are enjoying the Canary’s.
😍 Looks amazing guys!!!!
Lol Meghan jetpacked you xD
Hahahahahaha jet pack is right
What do you mean no fluffing with a fork?? It’s says to right on the box!! 😂😂 I’m glad you enjoyed the nude beach.. me, must be the Puritanical upbringing, but no! On a beach once I went to pet a dog, looked up and there was her owner on full display.. a guy. So no. 😂😂 What a lovely relaxing time!
Haha Meghan said the first thing wrong with that is the rice is from a box 😂 yeah there were definitely plenty of old guys enjoying some tanline free tanning at both beaches we went to 😂
LOL oh shit! I will never fluff w a fork again!
Lol I guess we all learn the hard way 😂
Great video guys! What kind of business did you start? Or were you referring to your RUclips channel as your business?
Thank you! It’s content creation, so a combination of our own channels and content making for brands to use for their channels. The RUclips channel is a small part of it! Working on expanding income streams this year so a lot of projects in the works.
We make content and work with brands on IG and TikTok too that’s our primary source of income at the moment. We’ve got some other things in the works too!
OPCIONS TRADUCTION SPANISH PLEASE
I’m not sure what you mean but if you’re looking for Spanish subtitles I think you can just turn them on in the video menu at the bottom of the video
It's kinda tiresome hearing foreigners to talk about siesta. Only few people can afford that. Oh come on...!
We don’t assume everyone can but thanks for clarifying.
