  • I use magazine clips or cut outs for a lot of my art and junk journal pages. This video shows my whole process from when I get the magazines in the mail to how I store and sort the parts that I decide to keep. I have changed my process and my storage containers several times, but this one has been working wonderful for me for months now. It allows me to work on it whether I have 5 minutes or an hour, and I don't have magazines piled around.
    I get most of my magazine free by doing quizzes and learning about recycling on Recyclebank.

    Hi, I'm Jenn. I live in a tiny town in Tennessee. I love doing fun and easy art -especially collage and mixed media journal pages- as a way to relieve stress and give me an escape from my daily grind. I work in a very conservative and rule driven environment. So, these little art projects of mine have become my form of therapy.
    There's little better to me than sitting down and ripping up a bunch of magazine pages, getting covered in glue, and splattering some paint and seeing where it takes me. There's no worrying about rules, terms, judgments, or anything like that. I just go with it and have a good time.

    Your organizational skills are great and you actual discard the magazines, which is a step in the right direction.

      Thank you! 😀💖 I still pretty much do the exact same. I just store them in zip folders instead of the hard plastic container. I like really simple categories lol

    This is a helpful way to sort images. I had too many categories and I wasn't good at putting them away.

      Thank you! I used to have a ton of categories and it was just too much to try to keep everything sorted. I'll probably just have like pictures and words at some point 😅 I dig through the stash anyway before I start a page. So categories don't help me too much lol

    This video popped up in my recommended videos and I am so glad it did. I love clipping magazines for my "therapy", and using the images in my journals. Your storage makes the most sense of any I have seen and I think I will implement it for myself. I have subscribed and am happily going to watch all your previous videos.

      Thank you! I'm very simple with my sorting lol. The only thing I've changed since this video is that u use large zipper envelopes for all instead of the words instead of the big plastic boxes to save room. It's been working well for me so far. Hope you have an awesome day! 😊💖💖💖

    I’m inspired by the simplicity of your categories. I find myself trying to sort too much and it takes up too much storage space

    • @ArtTherapywithJenn
      @ArtTherapywithJenn  5 лет назад

      I totally understand. I used to have a ton of categories too and it took up a whole cabinet lol. I have even less now: people, not people, and smaller not people, and animals 😂😂😂 It works for me bc I end up digging through everything any way before I start. I need to go through and reorganize again bc I'm sure I've mixed a lot up lol Hope you have an awesome day!

    We have a lot of the same images! Thanks for this video! This is also my ‘therapy’. I was introduced to gluebooking or art journaling with magazines in 2012 and I’ve ditched scrapbooking pretty much for this.

    Great video explaining your process. I love these types of videos, because I can take the ideas that work for me (or would work better for me!), and substitute when it doesn’t fit my space or way of “arting.” Thank you for sharing!

      I only keep what I know I'll use potentially and recycle the rest. Ive kept a lot in the past and it just cluttered everything up and made the process much less enjoyable. Everyone's eye for what they keep is different. I use colors, textures, letters, and words, too but just ones I personally vibe with. Have a great day

    What do I do for images as I live in the UK and things are not that easy to get and I also have little money to buy magazines and subscriptions. Another thing is mostly all of the free magazines only post the US.

    • @ArtTherapywithJenn
      @ArtTherapywithJenn  4 года назад

      I'm not sure about the UK
      But here, sometimes thrift stores and yard sales will sell a stack of magazines for cheap. Also if you know someone who works in a place that gets magazines for their lobby. They might can give you the month old ones instead of tossing them. I also used free clothing catalogs and advertisements when I first started for quite awhile. They have some great images on there and are usually free. There are tons of ad catalogs around holiday time full from amazing images. I hope that helps. thank you! 😊

    Where do you go to get free magazines? Can you share?

    • @ArtTherapywithJenn

      I get a lot of images from advertisement catalogs. I get mags from friends that have subscriptions or I got a lot from my old job where we used to have them in the lobby. I also used to get a lot from free sample offers. Now I got quite a few from a site called recycle bank. You take quizzes and read about recycling to earn points and you can redeem them for mag subscriptions some times. Hope that helps! 😊💖
      Edited to add: yard sales and thrift stores have great mags sometimes for little to no money. or even awesome books to harvest like hair style books that used to be in hair salons and coffee table type books w fabulous images for next to nothing.
