Damn. I forgot how fucking brilliant and crazy Cheap Tricks music is. This song brings me back to that period of bad boys and chaos. Back when EVERYBODY took turns being the monster! Love and Namaste, Cheap Trick….Damn it, Thank you. Thank you for making my late 80s early 90s teen years a helluva a lot less tragic. 😂
I was already a casual Cheap Trick fan in the 80's, it wasn't until the release of this video and album that I became a diehard fan for life. When the band finally released the album for the first time ever on vinyl, I was all too happy to finally add it to my vinyl collection after all these years. To this day, Woke Up With A Monster is my all time favourite Cheap Trick album. I think it's insane that it didn't go platinum, or even gold for that matter. Such an underrated album, and band.
We've never considered Zander as underrated.... I look at like you didn't get it yet .... Robert 🪴 Plant is not the only great singer in Rock. ... either is Mercury .
This song blew me away as a young teen. I heard 'I Want You to Want Me', The Flame and Surrender and loved it. As I was was discovering Cheap Trick this epic ripper arrived. It instantly became one of those jams that glues yer earballs open!!!!
One of my favorite hair rock bands of the 70s & 80s.robin is an all around performer he can sing, play music ,compose songs .take no prisoners frontman of the group!🎉
Why this band doesn't get more respect blows me away! They are one of the most influential bands of all time. Has anyone heard of Pearl Jam, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, or heard their songs performed on over 30 movie soundtracks?
One of the times when I met the guys. I asked Tom why we could not see there videos almost at all. He said ask Warner Brothers because they are the ones who had them. This was in October 1995.
@alcest35 it's sad how so many 40ish/50ish artists cite Cheap Trick as an influence, but that does very little to boost their sales...but they play amazing live, and that's all that really counts...gone are the days of the Beatles and the REM's of the world who can afford not to tour...i'm old school, i want to buy their albums in a store...i still haven't bought The Latest and i can't find it...
Most underrated band ever, remember people would talk shit about Bunny Carlos the best fucking drummer because he was older and fat but shit he's was and probably still one of the best that held the sticks!
My first rock and roll love! Im talking dream police but love it all got to see them music midtown atlanta 2001. Cannot believe i didnt get a pic as close as i was! Mail me one rick. I deserve one. Bought countless albums. R&R hall of fame should be ashamed it took so long! I so hope to be able to visit chicago one day. Prefer that over nyc or la. Styx is yalls buddies im sure!
Wow! When I think of this song, I also think of Q104.3! I guess it made an impression you as well back in 1994. The station threaded a gentle needle between grunge rock acts and pure rock acts at the time.

XD Beavis and Butthead!
@MrMegaFredzeppelin This song is trippy man!!! It's too bad it didn't get the proper recognition it deserved :( One of those songs that got played on the radio when it first came out, and then stopped, and now no one plays it anymore ;(
So this is what the boys were up to in the early 90s... my first listen... 🤔 ETA: I like the song, altho it's not my favorite of their's, it's still a good somg tho... Initially I was distracted by the silly early 90s video. Idk y this early digital style just didn't age well (for anyone who used it), it's odd b/c other early styles of animation and computer graphics have aged well...? Anyways, I always love Cheap Trick no matter what, my all time favorite band ever 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤
One time when I was a t this one bar I met this guy who was lookin' real good like an angel, we left to his house and in the morning I WOKE UP WITH A MONSTER, ahhh, ahhh, ah, ah, ah . . . .true story!
when I was a child I saw this video on Beavis and Butthead and I always made me smile because I remembered the nasty comments of them. they made jokes about the fat drummer. I missed the 90s so bad
You should be able to find the Latest on Ebay. Ive got it and unfortunately was not that impressed. I love Cheap Trick. But the Self titled album in 1997 and The Rockford albums are the best in my opinion
any kind soul out there wanna make an old rock drummer happy on my b-day and send monster to me....I'd be vastly appreciative??!~!! YE ARS ago, my band Hooker got bumped at the last minute from bein backup for Cheap Trick, here in Houston, on their 1st tour. (some band named 'Sweet', who I played with later..cool, huh?) I'm STILL broke up about it, right! Randy Meers

Robin Zander is indeed one of the most underrated Singers in Rock History. The guy is 65 years old now and he can still hit the high notes.
We've never considered Zander as underrated.... I look at like you didn't get it yet .... Robert 🪴 Plant is not the only great singer in Rock. ... either is Mercury .
Dude can definitely scream some high notes for sure!

Wow, great song.
This song blew me away as a young teen. I heard 'I Want You to Want Me', The Flame and Surrender and loved it. As I was was discovering Cheap Trick this epic ripper arrived. It instantly became one of those jams that glues yer earballs open!!!!
Best singer in the rock world ever. no question.

umm yeah, those bands are extremely popular
yeah , i think they influenced some of those bands
How many other singers can absolutely belt out lyrics with as much force and clarity as Robin Zander? Not to damn many!!!
Michael Florio and still can.
Robin Zander greatest singer ever!!!!
Congrats on Cheap Trick for finally being nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame(2016)

"sleeping with an angel woke up with a monster"--yea everytime i sober up!!LOL!!!
I love this CD! This should've been HUGE.
They used to play this on 106.7 The Force "The Best of Rock" in the summer of '94. A long defunct radio station outside of Pittsburgh.
+Fernanda OMG! I saw this on Beavis as a kid too! When the episode with this episode came out circa (around) 1994, I was only 15.
One of the few reasons I still like RUclips. I've managed to see videos to songs I never knew had videos from when I was younger :-).
One of the times when I met the guys. I asked Tom why we could not see there videos almost at all. He said ask Warner Brothers because they are the ones who had them. This was in October 1995.
Rock at it's very best. Visceral!
Cover bands wouldn't be able to touch this one. Should have been a revival. Thank goodness the Hall remembered.
Really good album.
Love this one too, back to the Beatles roots
+G Borden True. The chorus sounds like it was lifted straight from the bridge section of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)".
Totally cool! The gods of rock! Amazing vocal...
This is one of the coolist videos ever!!! They should have made #1 with this!!!!!! And the song totaly ROCKS....bob
Great song. I've always liked Robin's nod to John Lennon's "Cold Turkey" at the end.
This is the most underrated song!!!
I love the feel of this song!

Just love that naughty title.
I remember when this was a standard on the old Q104.3 in NY(when they were a hard rock station)
Wow! When I think of this song, I also think of Q104.3! I guess it made an impression you as well back in 1994. The station threaded a gentle needle between grunge rock acts and pure rock acts at the time.
Turn it up !
What a heavy sound. Sounds like Led Zeppelin! Hell yes.
This song has KILLER bottom!!!!
I DIG it!!!!!!!

Essa música é muito boa. Bem Beatles.
Cheap Trick are amazing, watch over the edge it's a film from the 70s or 80s with Matt dillon in it with slot of there music in it, it's great

One of those songs that got played on the radio when it first came out, and then stopped, and now no one plays it anymore ;(
It's a shame that Warner Bros. didn't promote the album as they should have.
Sounds like Rick wanted to use that awesome chord from I Want You (She's So Heavy) so he came up with this.
im seeing you guys in a couple of days, you guys rule.
long live cheap trick is the best
That song kicks ass
ROCK!!
noo no noo noo LMAO :-) Cheap Trick rules!
Had this tape. Ride the Pony was on it too I think.
Amazingly, this now qualifies as “early Cheap Trick.” Feeling old yet?
This video has aged wonderfully...
Their cover of Wild Thing is pretty epic.
Coolest!

Rick looked like Edge from U2 with that mustache!
1994
One time when I was a t this one bar I met this guy who was lookin' real good like an angel, we left to his house and in the morning I WOKE UP WITH A MONSTER, ahhh, ahhh, ah, ah, ah . . . .true story!
Cheap Trick's take on grunge
The best song that John Lennon could have done with Paul McCartney doing harmony on the chorus.
Rick looked like Edge circa (around) 1992 during the Zoo TV era.
when I was a child I saw this video on Beavis and Butthead and I always made me smile because I remembered the nasty comments of them. they made jokes about the fat drummer. I missed the 90s so bad
I found this song on a what I think is called a cassette tape in a store
THE COMMERCIAL SWANSONG!
The metal album
Originalnoooo... 😲
If you ever had a really hot girlfriend who had a dual personality disorder-
This song strikes straight at that target.

You should be able to find the Latest on Ebay. Ive got it and unfortunately was not that impressed. I love Cheap Trick. But the Self titled album in 1997 and The Rockford albums are the best in my opinion
I agree, in fact Rockford is the best album they ever did in my opinion, if it came out in the 25 years earlier it would get more acclaim
I woke up with a monster,,,,, and my girlfriend loved it. ;-)
Is this song about morning wood?
...sleepin with angel, woke up with a monster (Erection)
bun e!
i love Redd Kross, how did the Cheap Trick know
@skeletal13 they were trying to accomplish something like all shook up
Had flashback of 'the doctor' video for a second at the beginning. #scaryshit
these guys got fucking attitude
I've noticed in some videos Bun E. Carlos plays left handed. Wonder why?
This Song is 10 times better Live.. never been a fan of the Studio Version...
I thought Rick Neilsen looked pretty cool with the goatee. He should have kept it.
Fake News Headline: After waking up with a monster, Rick Nielson falls from a fifth story ledge after freaking out! (3:41)
@vmartin96 It's a shame, because it was a great album.
