I am also giving up my Bahama leg this year - was going to Miami then turn left but now will stay around the low country until heading north in the spring. The State Dept also just listed it as a do not go to destination due to their Covid situation - so that iced it for me. We crossed paths in Maine last year but I didn’t realize it until I say your videos. Maybe this year I’ll catch up. Hopping also to go to Nova Scotia also. Fair Winds

Yes I spent my whole professional life with the Major Airlines dealing with those all around the world...Flying Heavy Jet Transport. We rode out that storm at Key Largo. One boat dragged and had to reposition. We dragged a bit, too, but it restuck. Is that a word?😄 We anchored at Fleming Key with no problems. We're heading north. I know. Wrong direction. Happy sailing
The holding seems to be better on the west side of Fleming Key. Garrison Bight has the very soft mud, just saw a boat drag there the other day, wind was about 15 knots. I shall be heading north pretty soon as well ...

We anchored just west of Picnic Island last year in a blow. As you noted, its a bit of a narrow and twisty entrance into that area. Holding was good and the island provided some relief from the waves. Took our Fatty Knees over to the Newfound Harbor Sanctuary just south of Big Munson Island to snorkel the reef. We fought an ebbing current in the channel on our return to the boat when we got hit with a fast-moving storm that looked as ominous as the one you experienced. Not as much wind as you had, but was proportionally equivalent in the FN.
As I watched this video and listened with my Sony MDR-75XX studio headphones, I am certain you did some sound editing. It was good. Like you were sitting 5 feet in front of me. Nice job. If I'm incorrect please disregard. Wish I was there.
That Marathon anchorage was pretty rough and you get all those obnoxious fishing boats blasting through it early in the morning. We loved newfound harbor though and that picnic island there is pretty cool. There Was also pretty good fireworks there on New Years. We couldn’t get a mooring in key west so we just hung out at new found harbor instead of dealing with anchoring there. We never tried for the Tortugas with all the problems the boat had We didn’t want to be 70 miles from help. Was cool to get to wave at you on our trip though and it’s neat to see you making the same stops. Happy sailing!
I managed to get a mooring in Garrison Bight--there were two available and I arrived at the same time as another boat. We both thought that there was only one, so some intense negotiations ensued until it became clear that there was another open mooring ...

Talking to the Bahamas they said they wouldn’t count the crossing time for the covid test but it would be good to have a GPS track showing when you left and that you were at sea for that time.

Without an engine, how do you make sure your anchor is set? I would have expected you to back wind the main, but I got the impression that you dropped the main before dropping the anchor, so I am curious what technique you are using.

44lb Spade, 60' feet of 5/16" chain, 150' of nylon. I used the Waterway Guide (The Cruising Authority).

OpenCPN on a PC for me, I use a USB GPS receiver to make it a chart plotter. Works well.

Mostly rely on the cruising guide books and the charts (from NOAA for US waters).

Wow, that sounds like quite a trip! The tough part will be emerging on the east side of Panama, with the trade winds blowing against you. I understand that there's a lot of great cruising in those parts, though.
