In this video, I wanted to talk about my crochet hooks. I thought it would be a good idea to show you my collection of hooks (and I have a few as you can see) and to talk to you about my preferences.

Nothing like the sound of my metal crochet hooks! Just as wonderful as the feel of yarn! I prefer the "old-fashioned" metal hooks & hope to try the HiyaHiya brand soon.
I started crocheting with Susan Bates hooks, but I have switched to Clover Amour hooks and love them. I have never tried Hiya Hiya crochet hooks. You have a nice collection of hooks. Thanks for sharing.😊
I think I have a hook addiction! Lol I have them all! Clover Amour, Clover Soft Touch, Tulip Etimo and Tulip Etimo Rose, Hiya Hiya (because you like them!), Susan Bates metal (l learned to crochet with them...still love them!, and bamboo handle), Boye, and many more!! I have some inexpensive ergonomic hooks by Athena's Elements that are really nice. I recently bought an unbranded metal set on Amazon by BCMRUN which are really nice (very reasonable price, too.) I have the Addi Comfort Grip set, two wooden ChiaoGoo.....and several other inexpensive ergonomic sets. Yes, I'm an addict!! And I like them all! It just depends on the yarn I'm using. Some hooks just work better with different yarn...Some split the yarn and some don't. My favorites are all Susan Bates, the Clover Amour and Soft Touch, the Hiya Hiya and the really inexpensive BCMRUN from Amazon. I want so much to like the Tulip Etimos but I need to work with them more to get used to them. So that's it! I do recommend the Hiya Hiya and the BCMRUN hooks to try if you haven't but I don't recommend the wooden ChiaoGoo. The handle is extremely short and just didn't work for me. Sorry for the long post, but if anyone has any questions about ANY hooks, you can ask me, because I probably have them! Well, since you offered, 😉 I have a couple questions. Which hold do you use, the pencil or knife hold? (I use the pencil hold.) I also LOVE inline hooks (Susan Bates , especially). Which ergonomic hooks have the best Susan Bates form?

I hold it like a pen and love the flat bit on the hook.
After trying several kinds I have come across the Clover hooks and I just love them. They're so comfortable for the way I hold the hook and crochet.
Good afternoon Anya you are so funny you collect all the hooks I’m going to do the same thing but I got a little bit of arthritis on my hands and fingers so I’m having a hard time finding of a hook but I recently my son bought me a Odyssey so I’m using that but it’s it was difficult in the beginning but now I seem to have been able to crochet with it so keep doing what you’re doing you’re so happy all the time laughing you make me laugh you make my day thank you thank you God bless you keep doing your tutorials

I have used everything from acrylic - wood, not quite to Z but you get the picture.
I have collected hooks as well as knitting - tatting - sewing.... paraphernalia.
But to have a favorite among them would be like loving one of my children over the other.
As for the mechanical pencil, it was nice to see it's being loved and cared for, thanks for the visitation Anja!
Addi Swing! I have sensitive hands and it's a joy to work with them.
I alternate between my clover and tulip hooks because they’re kind on my arthritis but when I watch you crochet I always want to use my metal hooks xxx
Great video.
I started with Boye metal hooks but they were too narrow for my hands and made them ache after only a short time of use.
I then started to use Clover Soft Touch and liked them a lot. Over time I found the handles a little bit short and developed a tender spot just below my pinkie.
I changed to the Clover Amour hooks and am loving them. The handles are a tad longer and so don’t make a pressure spot on my hand. The flat front and rounded back make it so easy for me to move the hook without having a whole ton of wrist action. These are perfect for me.
Love hanging out.💖 I love my Clovers wish I would have gotten them when started but I have them now.💖💖💖💖

@Monica Brimm and Kat hie. Clover hooks didn't exist when I learned to crochet many moons ago. In fact, no ergonomic hooks existed. Everyone used aluminum hooks, either Susan Bates or Boye, here in the US. I learned on Susan Bates and still really like the inline hook. I do like both the Clover Amour and the Clover Soft Touch very well. The handle on the Soft Touch is a wee bit short, but I really like the shape of the head. It feels just a little bit different to me than the Clover Amour. But they're both excellent hooks! Have either of you, Monica and Kat, used the Tulip Etimo hooks? I love the feel of the handle but haven't quite adjusted to turning the head just right for the yarn to flow like it should. I think if I used them more, I'd master it, so I'll keep trying. I do like the shape of the head on those, as well. Stay safe and happy crocheting! 🙂🧶
I like Susan Bates, Furls, and wooden hooks for plarn.

The hooks you said you'd never crochet with can be used for decor projects - like a wreath made with yarn balls, you could glue one of those hooks in place, or inside an 'in the event of an emergency, break glass' shadow box filled with small balls of colorful yarns for a complete effect? Just a thought. My favorite hooks? Honestly, the plain Boye style metal hooks - I think they look similar to the Hiya Hiya hooks, but I have never seen one of those in person before how they'd differ. I do use plastic hooks when working with thicker yarns - I have not found 12 mm metal hook like you did and imagine my Q and S hooks would be too heavy in metal anyway. I think I need hooks with ergonomic handles for my smaller sizes 4.25 and smaller, I am starting to get up in age therefore my hands are as well. :) Thank you for the video and your input, I enjoyed it.
I love the noise they make too! My most favorite hooks are my Clover Soft Touch (the gold ones) which I have in 4mm, 4.5mm, 5mm, 5.5mm, & 6mm. If larger hooks are needed I use my Clover Amour which are lightweight plastic and are slippery enough. Any other plastic hooks are not slippery for me so I can't use them.
I use a metal hook also, brand Susan Bates. It has a pointed head and a flat middle for holding. (US)
I first started using the thin metal hooks and was hooking away nicely until I discovered clover amour 😍 I use the knife hold and these are much easier for me. I tend to use a 5mm a lot for DK (3 weight) yarn. I also store my hooks in a case I will post a pic in the Facebook group ☺️
I started Crocheting with metal Boye hooks. Then I tried Susan Bates. Oh the head on these work so much bettet!!

I am pretty new to crochet and have found your videos wonderful! I was using a cheap combination metal hook with a plastic handle but this week my lovely sister bought me the HiyaHiya set as a present and I LOVE them!! Couldn't believe what a difference they make!
I love the curls streamline swirls I have arthritis and they help my hands work better but they are expensive
I like using the H-I sizes for 4 weight acrylic yarns.
O wow! That's a lot of hooks! I've only got one set of simple no names :)
If you have given up the platic hooks so you probably never tried a hook from prym. It's a german brand and I love their metal and plastic hooks (the white ones with the colored end ).
The HiyaHiya hooks are exact copies of an old American brand of book called Boye.
Boye is still the best, least expensive hook made.
A helpful hint for custom made ergonomic hooks:
Find your favorite metal hook and wrap Sculpy polymer clay around squeeze it to your band's need and bake it at low heat (follow polymer clay instructions) and you have a custom made ergonomic hook.

I love my Clover Amour set and predominantly use them. I do have my metal hooks yet, preferring Susan Bates over Boye, though the Boye hooks are the predominant brand in the local stores. I recently bought 3 of the Furls hooks, just to see what all the fuss was about in the yarny community. I really didn't like them at first. They took quite a while to even start to grow on me. Because of the price of them, I have been forcing myself to use them in different projects. I'm getting used to them, but I know they won't take the place of my Clovers.
Which Furl's did you try? I have the Streamline and Streamline Swirl, plus the Odyssey. So far I'm not in love with any of them, but feel I should use them because they were so expensive. Lots of people love the Odyssey, but I'm just not used to the weight of it yet.
@@char8059, I have an Odyssey in size J, and 2 streamlines in sizes H and I. I'm actually afraid of breaking the streamlines because they don't feel sturdy enough. The Odyssey is a little heavy so I can't use it for too long. I will get them out and use them once in a while, because of the cost of them.
@@SWEETANDSAUCYANGEL I know what you mean about being afraid of breaking the Streamlines. I have one actual wooden Streamline in an "I" and I just recently bought a beautiful Streamline Swirl in Cookies N' Cream in an "H" , which is made of resin. I like the feel and weight of it better than the wooden Streamline but will be trying both because I honestly haven't given any of them the trial that I need to in order to really give a good evaluation of them. The only thing I know for sure is that although they are beautiful, the Odyssey hooks just feel a bit too heavy. I know they're also weighted in a way that's supposed to make it easier to crochet with them. I have two Odysseys, one dark Forest green color in an "H" and the gorgeous Peach 🍑 in an "I" (I got it when it first came out and there was a good promotion going on at a good discount.) I'm not buying anything else from Furl's until I give every hook I have from them a really good workout. I've already spent a lot of money on their hooks and I'd like to get my money's worth. I have so many hooks, it's disgraceful! Way, way more than I'll probably ever use. My daughter doesn't crochet so I can't gift her with any of my hooks.... I'll find someone someday who'll appreciate them, I'm sure! Let me know if you like your Furl's any better with time. 🙂🧶
I LOVE crochet hooks!!!💕 plastic doesn't work for me either. I've never tried wooden hooks 🤔 my go to is metal tapered hooks but it's TRUE they're not all created equal. I try not to spend too too much because I give them away often when I teach my friends to crochet.
I enjoyed this, but found myself wishing you would have named the inexpensive hook brands. Here in the US, the most common hooks are Boye or Susan Bates. Susan Bates hooks are the ones I love, because they are a bit more pointed at the tip. The HiyaHiya hook tip looks very much like the Boye brand. It would be nice to see those this side by side, also with my favorites, Susan Bates. 🤗
Btw, I use the pencil hold and always use metal hooks, as well. I would love to find some metal tipped hooks (similar to the Susan Bates tip), with a pencil hold ergonomic handle.
Thanks for this video. I have lost all of my crochet hooks (yes! All of them!) and only have that Lisa set (that you bought in Belgium) left. I’ve been searching for recommendation. So far I have mostly used metal hooks
10 and 12 mm verkopen ze bij de Zeeman in Nederland en België. Het busje met haaknaalden komen inderdaad van de Action. Die heb ik ook voor nood. Ik haak met oude van mijn moeder en oma en die zijn metaal van Prymm. Je tip voor het merken is een heel goed idee ga ik ook doen. Bedankt voor de tip.
Clover Amour first choice but I have them all from wooden, HERO’s and just went and purchased the Hiya Hiya set to check them out. I think I have over 200 hooks because I love them. Thank you for showing me your hooks. I went to Italy and I think they have the worst hooks ever. Can’t wait to go back to The Netherlands and find some yarn shops to see what they have. My son lives there. 😘

I started out using the ergonomic rubber/plastic handle with metal hook but you introduced me to HiyaHiya and I only use the HiyaHiya. They are hard to find so I am happy you had them for sale on your website so I got them from you.

I used Susan Bates until I found my Clover Amours...I use them exclusively, but woukd love to try the Hiya-Hiya ones. You can find them on the Lion Brand website.

Hi. I like my 4mm knit pro hook . Its has black soft grip handle and a metal gold colour hook . The stitches glide off smoothly. My favourite at the moment.

Hi Anja, I find that I use different hooks for different projects, but rely on my addi hooks and a set of long handled ergonomics.
The little grey one at about 11.00 looks to be a pony one! I went to sweden recently and saw them, also got one and then went back for 2 more later^^ they come as cheap as about 16 kr, so that would be about 1,60 eur... i found them really good for crocheting 4 ply like the cotton twirls, where you have the 4 strands separated.. Otherwise i just got no brand metal ones, and those tend to lose a ply very often while the pony ones didnt for me =) I think it might be because the heads of them seem very straight and have a very deep curve inside that threads can be picked a bit safer^^
I started with the Bates hooks. I have slowly started to switch to clover. Need the ergonomic hooks ❤
My fav hooks are the Clover Amours....Haven’t tried a HiyaHiya, though.
I recently bought a Furls Odyssy....and my biggest complaint is that it’s a little difficult to control, because there is no place to rest my thumb. It drives me crvazy...

Double-ended Tunisian crochet hooks are for crocheting in the round! I'm very jealous of your metal one; I have only been able to find a double-ended hook in wood (from Clover).

I've used Aero hooks all my life - Milward for the small doily hooks - and dearly love them. They're pearlized grey metal with lovely heads and smooth as smooth can be. But I thought I'd try the Knitpicks' Radiant Wood line. I was dubious about the rounded head and deep groove but was pleasantly surprised at how good they feel and just love their smoothness too. And it's been a couple years with no breakages. They're my new favourites, although I have three Hiya Hiya on order just out of curiosity. Hope they turn out well too - great video!

I've crocheted for about 60 yrs. Boyes were my favorite hooks, until I packed my stuff in storage, thinking I'd buy new hooks. All my hooks were older, maybe 10-20, some older. When I bought new Boyes hooks, i found the are NOT the same as my older hooks. I think I'm gunna try Hiahia hooks. I hate the sharp edges of other brand hooks. Thank you of never heard of them. I like their narrow smooth heads n the easy look of the stem. Thanks again
I like trying out different brands of crochet hooks. I love my metal Prym crochet hooks. I bought Clover Amour Crochet hooks and I love using them. They are soo comfortable to use. I have some HiyaHiya Crochet hooks but in large size 8, 9 and 10mm. I recently ordered a 6.5mm and 7mm. I have plans to order smaller sizes seeing how you love using your 3.5mm. I have Pony, Tulip and KnitPro. I sure hope it's not an addiction. Hahaha. I really like those grey ones in 10mm and 12mm. I love grey. I have some wooden hooks but I don't use them as often. I don't like plastic hooks. They are not fast enough for me. I haven't started doing Tunisian crochet yet but I will love to learn

You can get the HiyaHiya in a 17 crochet set. I also much prefer the simple metal hooks. I have osthoarthritis but I do not fell any better with the ergonomic crochets. I have the Clover, use them but do not like them.
I'm still using my 40 year old crochet hooks.

Hi Anja wow so many Different hooks but sometimes for Different projects you need Different sorts of hooks. I love my Metal colour hooks they are the same like yours from hiyahiya, but there are no Name hooks. The fantastic quality like hooks from hiyahiya is the same from my no name hooks. I have needles for knitting socks from hiyahiya and there absolutly fabulous and i prefer These needles if i knit socks with lace or something. The needles from knit pro zing are fabulous too but i Dont know if it gives hooks🤷♀️🥰

Double ended hooks to work tunisien crochet in the round
I always use metal hooks as well. I need that flat spot. I will have to try the Hiya Hiya hooks. Do they really feel much different from a no name metal hook? I have a couple Boye hooks also but I don't really notice any difference between them and my no name hooks.

I don't know what hooks I will need but I fell and broke my right wrist in 3 places I am getting operated on Wednesday then 6-12weeks recovery I am missing my crochet already.

I use metal aluminium ones ! I have korbond ones. I have recently bought a multipack on Amazon but I've noticed they're not as good quality. they don't seem as cold as my korbond ones and they aren't as smooth.. which is sad. I think the paint job wasn't done as well either. I came to this video because I am looking for a place to buy a good quality aluminium set
