Something a lot of people forget is that the hart trophy is the "Most valuable player TO HIS TEAM" Not the best player, (Ted lindsay) but the mvp to his own team. The lightning would not be in a playoff spot without kucherov. The avalanche would definitely be in a playoff spot without Mackinnon. That should settle the debate immediately.

The biggest problem with Hart Trophy discourse is that no one knows what the award is actually for. It isn't for the best player, it's most valuable player to his team. There is a difference. Kucherov absolutely deserves to be top three in Hart voting this year, regardless of where the Lightning finish in the standings. There already is an award for the best player, and it's called the Ted Lindsay award

That's easy: He's had Kuch, Vasi, Hedman, Point, Serg, Perry and more/depth, all the ingredients so to say. Hard to lose with that. And I'm not saying he's not a great coach, he is, but it's easy to see how he never had a real opportunity to show "his" impact on their success: They were simply always too good all around...

If he doesn't get MVP, it will be #1 bullshit. Lightning have 182 GF, he has 89 pts, with the 2nd scorer 35 behind. Colorado has 196 GF, MacKinnon has 85 pts and the 2nd scorer is only 18 behind. Kucherov should get the Hart and Lindsay, and he will win the Art Ross.

Kuch was good last year but McDavid topped him by 40 points and 34 goals (More than Double Kuch's 30g) MacKinnon had 11 less games, 12 more goals and only 2 less points.
The previous 3 seasons Kuch was injured and did not even lead the lightning in points or surpass 100 points... and the year before that he WON THE FRIGGIN HEART - but oh yeah he doesn't get a fair shake...
Kuch will be in the conversation this year (hence Cooper is drumming up support) but he is a winger, and they are just less important. MacKinnon hits more, blocks more shots, has more OTG and GWG , scores more 5 on 5, AND he takes face-offs. Mac's easily the better player this year so far, BUT Makar and Rantanen - so Kuch will be in the conversation. I just don't see how the numbers support anything more.

    • @chelious1973
      @chelious1973 4 месяца назад +3

Well you can’t lead your team in scoring or score 100 pts if you dont play enough games or play games at all.
You just dont know your numbers.
Kuch has been easily the 2nd best offensive player in the NHL over the last 5 years. And the numbers support that.
His 1.46 ppg is second only to McDavids 1.64 ppg. Drai has 1.43 and Mac has 1.4 ppg over that same span. Those are the top 4.
That is 120pts over a 82 game schedule. The fact that he missed games means little. He has more hardware in the last 5 years other than McDavid.
Statistically, the comparison between Kucherov and MacKinnon is close. Kucherov has more points, power-play goals and owns a better shooting percentage with more primary assists. He leads the league in that dept.
His goals created is 3.46 this year. Mac is at 2.78. McDavid is at 3.24.
But two numbers best illustrate Kucherov’s value. He has played a role in more of his team’s goals, earning a point in nearly half of the Lightning’s this season (48.6%, compared to MacKinnon’s 43.2). And Kucherov’s point total is 31 points higher than his team’s next-highest scorer (Brayden Point, with 54) despite playing with some of the NHL’s best in Point, Stamkos and Victor Hedman. MacKinnon’s point total is just 18 ahead of Colorado’s next-highest scorer (Mikko Rantanen, with 66).
Kuch led the playoffs in scoring two years in a row with over 30 pts and win a cup. Only two players in NHL history can say the same. Their names are called Wayne and Mario.
Kuch sat out a whole NHL season and came back to score over 30pts and win a cup. That is impressive.
Most like yourself dont really know the numbers too well. That is why Kuch gets disrespected. Neither do most NHL commentators or writers. Sad but true.

Honestly, I'm tired of the 5v5 argument. Literally, Kucherov has 5 more PP pts than MacKinnon. It's not like Kucherov gets his cookies solely from the PP.

@@User-wt9jk Federov---Points, stats, cant even use the argument that Federov had worse line mates. He didn't as he was with Yzerman for a good portion of his career. Guy was good yes, and a legit franchise player. Many people would argue he wasn't even the best on his team. Lower PPG in both the regular season and the Playoffs.
Bure---an electric hockey player, arguably one of the most entertaining hockey players of all time. His speed was other worldly, and was a bonafide goal scorer. However, he was notoriously selfish, which was evident by only 4 seasons in his 13 did he ever eclipse more assists than goals. This is including primary and secondary assists.
Kucherov while not as flashy as the two above, is just in a different realm entirely. His intelligence, the ability to see plays develop before they do is something we don't really ever see. (Gretzky is the guy that comes to mind, which is in a tier all on his own.) He is an assist machine, but at the same token a legit goal scoring threat. Why dominate with speed and jaw dropping moves when he can pick apart your defense just standing still. Barring injuries this season he will have just as many 100 point seasons under his belt as Bure and Federov combined......Yeah, not to mention one of the best playoff performers of all time.

@@Bolt6604 I will give him higher hockey iq even though bure and fedorov were high iq players too. Having higher iq doesn’t make him better than them imo though.
