His “I Fuck Sluts” poem is actually one of my favourite bits in this show because of that sincerity that slips through. The contrast of the vulgar language with sincere emotion, really makes it a strong bit!
Yeah he has talked about being flamboyant. He said he was bullied at school for seeming gay, and because of that he purposely inserts parts into his shows that normalize guys not being masculine/straight.
His mom is protestant and he went to a Catholic high school because she was the school nurse so he got to go for free. His parents are very accepting and open-minded, and not homophobic at all. Like at all. When he posted his first ever song My Whole Family, which is about his family thinking he's gay, his mom told him to take it down because she thought it was homophobic and it upset her very much. Of course it wasn't, and she eventually understood it, that's why it's still there lol. His parents have claimed they never thought he was gay, but he swears up and down they did. What else? He did get somewhat bullied in middle school by some other kids because they thought he was gay, but that was mostly because he did theater and was more sensitive lol. He's also stated multiple times he acts flamboyant and ambiguously gay onstage to serve as an example to the younger part of the audience that that's an okay thing to be. But off-stage, as well, he's pretty in touch with his femininity, in the best way a straight man can be, I guess? It's just his personality, he's very much embraced it, which is cool. When he jokes about his parents in a negative way, like his dad disapproving of his comedy or his mom being prejudiced, it's mostly to be relatable to the audience, because he knows that sadly most people don't have parents as supportive and understanding as he does
An old piece from his show ‘words, words, words’, titled “rant”, actually touches on this. He mentions in the beginning of the song that he had been “surrounded by* Catholicism” from a very young age. So you were actually spot on with your analysis!
@@KaneK1234 Agreed! Haha i was to see him react to all of bo burnhams stuff. Honestly, his is the only commentary i like on bo burnham, lol. I tried watching some others but i didnt like them at all compared, and i feel like he nails it on the head every time when it comes to the meanings and symbolisms he points out. Plus hes good lookin with a nice voice, i mean, cant go wrong 😅
In his early career some audiences didn't seem to get his humor, at least that was the impression I'd gotten watching. That might be why he did some bits letting people know the joke was over by ringing a bell or aggressively throwing confetti, which I also found funny.
He has also said he likes absurdist humour, like showing the pages are blank, and turning the page with the book on his head. Jokes that leave people thinking....What???Why???
If you actually pay close attention to his notebook throughout the special there are actually things written in the notebook, but it’s all towards the front and back and you get just small glimpses of it on the closeups like when he sits down to read the poem.
He discussed the all boys Catholic school he went to on the Marc Marson podcast (I think the one from 2011?) and said it was actually surprisingly progressive compared to what might be expected (like the teachers and stuff were gay-friendly? I forget all the details but it was a really interesting interview). And he was only able to go because it was free for him because his mom was the school nurse or something. Excited for the next reaction!! (and this one was great)
The way he mentions his parents in the bits are definitely part of the act. I believe his father actually helped with producing or contribution to this show in some form, and he has a very close relationship with his mother, I could be wrong about his father though, not 100% sure
He always talks about his mother with incredible respect in interviews, she was actually on an episode of This American Life where they shadowed her working as a hospice nurse. My favourite part of this poem is the way 'They can be skinny with big tits, or skinny with small ones' just sliiiiiiiides right on by, it's such a lovely lowkey bit of irony.
Yeah he went to an all boys Catholic high school. He is really close with his parents though. His dad used to be his merch person at shows! My second favorite song from what. is coming up next! So excited.
I'd highly recommend watching his show Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous. Pretty sure it's available thru Amazon, but it was ahead of it's time. Bo did it I think right before this special, really showcases his acting and comedic writing skills
Not sure if you'll ever react to his special "Words Words Words", but his song titled "Rant" is probably my favorite thing he's ever made. He was definitely surrounded by Catholicism when he was younger and it talks about that.
As for the elaboration on where Bo stands with religion and his relationship with it- there’s something coming up soon in this special relating to that but of course no spoilers! I would also recommend Bo’s piece called “rant” which really gets into the nitty gritty of his gripes about religion and I personally think people should react to more!
I find the part after the “slow joke” where he says “good we’re having fun” since he’s showing his anxiety about people not liking him or the special. Shows how he didn’t just have this fear on Inside or make happy.
Can you react to the "super extended" version of I'm bo yo from the Aladdin theater? There's like a 2 and a half minute freestyle of lines he was working on. Never seen someone do a reaction to it. It's really good. Highly recommended
Commenting on how Bo summarizes what he means with his jokes at the end. He touches on that in the "reaction" portion of Inside. Where he feels like if he calls out what he just said he's absolved of it even though he knows that's not true.
So, eventually, what. ends. Depending on how you record these, you may have heard or will hear mention of George Carlin. He has a grandiose of content here on RUclips, and as an avid consumer of your videos, I highly recommend him next, if you didn't have anyone in mind yet Love your stuff, I tune in everyday
@@KaneK1234 yea, he mentions at some point his indecisiveness as to whether to do that special or not. Regardless of if he does or doesn't covers words, I'd like to see Carlin through this man's eyes
Just 20 seconds in, and if you don't like it that's fine. The ultimate choice lies with you, but I think the glare on your glasses is cool. It adds visual interest to the shot. When you looked up, that was too much, but that's not the angle we see you in 99.9% of the time. The blue glow at the top of your glasses is neat and doesn't hide your expression imo. The frame of the glasses slightly hides your eyebrow movement, but that problem lies with both glasses.
Bo Burnham is by far the smartest, criticising and maybe controversial comedian out there. Every sentence is full of wisdom, makes people laugh and everyone can identify him/herself with his message Colbert, Kimmel, Stewart, Chapelle... all good but none as awesome as Bo
Wait. Netflix is copyright striking you for "what."? At least here this special stopped being on netflix long ago, so they should have no claim for it.
This was uhh.. These jokes were.. Yeah RUclips didn't appreciate these ones 😂

Appreciate the info! Totally makes sense.
@@ChrisReactsToThings You're very welcome! Love your reactions, you're one of the best
WDIDLN and A World on Fire are some of my favorites songs from Bo
Same. Very powerful and moving 😢

Rant is such a good one tbh.
@@crycrywolf It was the first song of his that really, really spoke to me, having had a similar upbringing. It’s underrated as heck.
I was gonna recommend rant to him! One of my favorites tbh.
@@amberboulter57 Well he needs to watch all of words words words. then. The songs at least.

Rant is fantastic, definitely something to check out if the Bo train continues.
+1 for a reaction to rant
Can't wait for the next video. Anyone who's seen this special knew at 9:13 what's coming next.
Love the bo burnham reactions!! Keep it up!! Hi from Spain!!
i definitely think you should react to the Words Words Words special after you finish this one because there are some bangers packed in there
Your videos are golden, mate. For real. You're just so genuine and really put effort to understand what's being said.
can't wait for the next reaction! Left Brain Right Brain is one of my favorite songs Bo has ever done
Yes!! I Fuck Sluts has always been one of my favorite poems from his book Egghead! I just showed it to a friend of mine a few days ago 😂

Oh I can’t wait for the next video I know exactly what song is coming next lmao
Bo missed a big opportunity to call that slow joke corny
Yooooo left brain right brain is next
i want a WDIDLN full song jesus that intro was fire
You should react to "Art is Dead". I love that song, it really gets me
He will react to the whole words words words. Special.
Ah, tonight's title is a game of charades! 😁 The second one had me puzzled for a bit but then I remembered his wild Hollywood nights. 😀
That slow joke gave me PTST regarding all of the elementary bar-splaining these reactors be on about. It feels like that, sometimes, though.
You should also react to the studio songs from the what album. (Repeat Stuff, eff, Nerds, Channel 5: The Musical, Hell of a Ride)
The next reactions gonna be good. One of my favorite bits from this special.
10:15 you should react to his song "my whole family" haha

Yeah you do hear Chaucer there 😂
When you know the rules, you know best how to break them.
I think him explaining the jokes might be a self-awareness thing, like not wanting to come off as pretentious
The next song was just about to start.
Hes got a whole song about how his family thinks he's gay 😂😂😂😂 his RUclips debut song actually
After u finish WHAT and go further back in time with his work, some of your questions will be answered
